In need of an engaging mmo.

I used to be an avid SWG player but then as we all know they changed it and for us vets they killed it... twice... pre-cu in my opinion it was the perfect mmo. but enough about SWG ,I've been looking for a time for a game even remotely similar, the thought that fallen earth is coming and might be like it has had me on the edge of my seat for quite a long time. However, the waiting is killing me, I've played WOW, LOTRO, and MANY other mmo's but I find myself getting bored with them, half of my problem is that games like WOW not only does it possess a kind of distant player base (probably due to the 9 million players), but I find near the end of levelling I wind up getting VERY bored w/ the same old go out, kill 9 sheep come back, here's 2000 xp and a sword- system. I desire an MMO with a tightly knit player base, good pvp (or atleast average), houses, towns, etc. (or something similar to a guild town in which the people of the guild can get together in their natural habitat, lay back, have a party, or some kind of a celebration), a crafting system would be a bonus. Anything like a skill-treeish system would be sweet and the ability to change our characters later on and such. But possibly the biggest thing for me is the community, part of the reason I loved SWG was the community, and the way players interacted, and such. so basically, tightly knit community, good people, good pvp, interesting levelling system, houses/ town cities (or something similar), crafting would be cool, skill tree- like would be awesome. I know this is kinda specific and a long list but still if there is anything that mildly close to this please throw your voice in here. All comments are greatly appreciated.

Some of the stuff you say reminded me of AC2. I miss that game a lot., but would like to have a few of the things you mention in it too. I want a FFA PVP server with a chance to drop items/gold  like EQ2 when you PK someone. Tight player base with one ( 1 ) server. limited number of characters you can have so you become attached to it even more. No instances at all, but im old so the new gen wants everything handed to them easy style.

How many delicate flowers have you met in Counterstrike?

I got a case of beer and a chainsaw waiting for me at home after work.

Hey guys, check out Wurm Online. From the look of it, it sounds like it may have what ya'll are lookin' for.

From the looks of it, it sounds like the OP is asking for a sandbox game style... In that case I would look into Wurm online like suggested above... If you like medeval time period... Eve online if you like Space.

The one thing i notice many gamers have in common is the fact that people tend to look over the smaller developed games. Whether it be cause of lack of advertisements or also the fact that there is no main forums on the released games list, but guess thats what happens to an indie mmo. Anyway give these games a look at, I can vouge for Wurm more then Eve as im more a fan of earthly type games.

    Luck man.

Also a good space game is StarQuest Online, it's much more sandbox style than EvE and has a very friendly and helpful community.

I did try Wurm online and for some reason was having issues w/ it (probably vista), however the impression I got from the little I played (though I could be wrong) is that I desire a little more structure. I may sound very picky, however I fell in love with a specific way of playing an mmo.

Vendetta Online doesn't have all the features your looking for but it definitely is "mildly close".

PlayerBase/Community: The game population itself is rather small due to it being an underground type of game. With that being said however the community is probably one of the best I've ever experienced out of the dozens of mmo's I've played. Very friendly and fun group of people.

PVP: The PVP in this game is intense. The game itself is a FPS type flight simulator combat. There are multiple ways to fight and multiple strategies to it. Mouse/Keyboard, joystick, double joystick, flight assist on/off, mouselook on/off. Since its a twitch fight combat system the combat gets very very intense, especially in regions of gray space and the border between the itani and serco (there has been a large war taking place there with a border skirmish and border patrol mission available.) In the border battles large capital ships and frigates along with smaller fighter, bombers, mine layers, etc get into a heavy exchange of fire daily.

Eventually, sectors on the border will be winnable by faction (serco and itani). If you chose to you can also man a turret inside one of the larger ships and fire at enemies that way. Soon capital ships and frigates and even stations will be available to be built by guilds and people leading to a more interesting and dynamic universe.

Housing/cities/etc: Currently unavailble but planned in the near future. The Closer the game nears 2.0 the better.

Crafting: The game for a while didn't offer any crafting abilities but recently (past few months) missions are beginning to introduce more crafting to the game. Likely in the coming months more crafting will be available and be more mainstream and easier.

Interesting Leveling System: License system based on Combat, Light Weapons, Heavy Weapons, Trade, and Mining. License points can be earned through missions, killing things, mining, selling things, etc etc. Kind of unoriginal yet simple.

Skill tree: There are a few mission trees but skills are mainly non-existant at this point. How well you do in PVP mainly depends on your skill but also ship and weapon play heavily into it.

Other interesting stuff: There is the PCC which you can create your on missions on the test server (some player created missions have been added to the game.

The game itself is made by 4 people, quite a small dev group (you'll communicate with them frequently) but dedicated and always rolling something new out.

Dynamic hive bot system: The hive (group of rogue bots will expand and contract depending on the players interaction with them)

Devs implement things you suggest: Many times devs have implemented player suggestions into the game. Thats always good :).

You make a tall order. Personally, I thought the crafting in SWG and all aspects of harvesting the raw materials was the most developed in all of MMO'dom. I could ask for more storage space for my horde of materials especially now with all the enzymes a Beast Master can accumulate.

You want a free diversion while  you wait for Age of Conan or whatever? Try the Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean. It reminded me of my PS2 game Pirates-The Legend of Black Kat. I gave it a rating of 7 out of 10 due to average graphics, poor sound and some lag issues. The game is still new enough to be able to make a good name for yourself in it's community. Any veteran MMO player will thrive in this game.

What is it really you are after in an MMO? A feeling of ownership perhaps? Property, Power, and Prestige?

Or perhaps you are experiencing the letdown a person may face after attaining an empty mastery of their favorite game? I do not have a prescription for this malady.

Take heart, be patient, new stuff is on the way.

My biggest fear in life these days? Dying before seeing the next sequel to my favorite movie, video game, etc.
