Urgent Economic/PvP fixes needed

DJXeonDJXeon Member UncommonPosts: 553

Whatever FLS do only 20% max of population are core PVP players which will not be enough to sustain the other 80% or the massive economy the way the game is set up now.

Some of us will remember that the economy was not being sustained even in beta with the higher dbl rewards that we had then so that in itself is not the complete solution.

Ultimately western Potbs players need to be invited into PVP in a gentlemanly fashion.

"DO YOUR DUTY" for your nation or else pay a fee to be exempt.

Non FT players that refuse invites to PVP on a regular basis should be labeled something.

How about a couple of broken swords (or chickens) above their ships for a limited time?

btw things are so bad Sols can be found for 50k.

Also everyone who are calling for more PVP & not active ingame doing it are part of the problem..

it's simply too easy to sit around & do nothing - the game needs some fundemental changes to prevent this from happening.

Think on it...if FLS can't fix this in a simple game what hope do we have in r/l?

One of the problems is part of the PvP community. On my server New Orleans is the prime example. This is a level 20-30 area, yet commonly Spanish level 50s in Triton Interceptors hang out there so they can gank the noobs in the red circle.

One thing that they do is sit in New Orleans or Biloxi (depending on the wind) while one of their number sitting outside the port runs a level 20 in a Xebec as "bait". When someone jumps the level 20 for some 1v1 PvP, the three Tritons zone out of the port and join in the combat, making it a gankfest. If the port is not in contention, their "bait" sits there with his PvP flag up. Same result for anyone thinking they had a 1v1 going.

Just a few minutes ago, before I logged off, two of the level 50 Tritons had a level 20 outside Biloxi. I saw them zone out, turned and ran, while sending a message to another player on nation chat that was in a battle zone near them. Apparently he doesn't read his messages, or he would have stayed safe in the battle zone until the Tritons got bored and moved on. I guess the other two in the Tritons must have not been able to play this morning, maybe they had to go to church, or something. It is so prevelant that anyone that has been on the server any length of time knows about it. Most level 50s go out to the Antilles and either grind higher level NPCs, or PvP against other level 50s. Not these guys......they're proud to gank noobs!

Then, on the official server forum, they complain how they have sat outside New Orleans all nite and only had one PvP fight. Yea, this game is a whole lotta fun for noobs......teach them PvP in a 4v1 with level 50s against a level 20.

Guys like this give PvP a bad rap.

While I think all games should take steps to prevent this kind of PvP "ganking", you have to remember that some people are going to be jerks in every game you play, particularly MMOs.  There are players who find most/all their enjoyment out of causing other players problems.  These are the same people who played WoW on the PvP servers and hung out with their level 60s where the people half their level were questing.  There are lots of people on EVE also who "camp" points in an effort to cause new players headaches when they're completely out-matched.

For now, the best advice is probably to know what their tactics are, like those you mentioned, and avoid getting caught up in their traps.  People are always wanting to find the easiest, cheapest ways to make themselves feel like "winners".  Hopefully they'll get tired of it and just quit and bother people in a different game...

It is really just the tip of the iceberg. The game has a long string of issues ranging from basic design, balance, technical exceution etc. Plus ganking is encouraged by the devs who claim it is a form of historical realism.

Many mmo's i've played have some groups of PVPers that use deliberate ganking tactics & Potbs is no exception.

These groups are very bad for the game as they discourage solo players from going in red circles for obvious reasons no matter how rich they are.

Until Potbs has viable alternative to OS red circle PVP & ganking it will limit the amount of dp loss needed for a healty economy.

Currently the only alternative is the instanced port battles themselves which do not occur on a regular basis.

The economy is over-producing & is in real trouble so an immediate fix is needed in addition to increasing PVP rewards.

Here are some of the benefits more Port Battles could bring to Potbs:

    1. Voluntary invitation system that does not require red circles or being ganked.

    2. Full PVP rewards for the winners & usual points for the port conquest system.

    3. More PVP leads to more dp loss which is badly needed to maintain a healthy economy.

    4. Players on low populations servers would get more invites to Port Battles.

    5. Extra Port Battles would compensate for no battles in cases of contention stalemate or decay.

    6. Port battles will still happen in periods of low contention.

(The new skirmish system could divert players from making red circles)

Above all it does not need to interfere with current player made Red Zones.

The extra Port Battles perhaps could be integrated into the contention system at times when the current system has none scheduled in distant ports with little economic significance where no players have set up production.

I personally got a laugh out of the 1 million gold for a cow on the blind auction house during the week before the free month ran out. Yeah, that sounds like a working economic system, that along with half the commodities or more selling for less than they cost to produce. And common commodities not even worth selling.

    No fix needed here.

    Pfft.

They were transfering money to another character..................

As far as selling below cost, maybe if they're loaded with money they dont care if they lose a little to help their NATION out????

Read the new devlog "State of PVP", the problems u addressed are being fixed in patch 1.3

1.3 is slated for April/May and might or might not work.

Improved PVP rewards & band aids for the inexperienced will indeed help as some of the ways to increase PVP until the newbie skirmish system is put into effect.

However it is not the only way needed to turn around the economy.

It needs something huge which is why a voluntary system based on lvl that often invites more players into PVP battle instances where ganking does not occur is needed in my opinion.

edit: Low level players also desperately need more ways to obtain Movs to get that Mediator Cutter deed refit & the amount of small pennants FT's need to collect to get a ship deed needs to be drastically reduced.

    Regarding 1.3

They are also increasing db drops from npcs, giving out db for player kills, and giving db for unrest turnins
