Both are good games but if you're looking for a game that will last long i say WoW.
no one there dude
wow if your a new to mmo,
guildwars is a fung game but its not a proper mmo
eq2 is another great game, mor casual friendly than wow :0
I have both and I found myself playing WOW most of the time.
GW is not as polished and does not draw you in as much as WOW. GW also uses more instances (in fact, everything except town is instance-based).
I've always had more fun in guildwars than in WoW. not much can beat make a 100% custom build and making it work after tweaking over and over.
though WoW is likely what you're going to enjoy more. guildwars content is PvP and about 6 or so 'endgame' instances that are PvE.
niehter Guildwars nor WoW is really about roleplaying, though I'd say if you were going to attempt it WoW would probably be a better bet even if you're likely to be stoned by the community if you attempt to.
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
WoW then. Guild Wars will not last for "ages" unless you really enjoy PvP. Its a good game, but its not your typical MMO.

Guild Wars: Got to the max level in 3 days, and i didnt even play hardcore. Gets boring fast
WoW: Expensive and good, i didnt like it though.
Guild Wars isn't about getting to the max lvl. Thats why they are making Guild Wars 2 lvling system over 100 because of turd comments like that.
guild wars is too anime like, where as WoW is too cartoony. WoW is still more fun/polished however.

If you're into PvP, then do Guild Wars.
If you just want to raid, get WoW.
If you like to go kill X of that and get Y of that and raid, WoW is the game for you.
If you don't, GW might be for you
Some people makes it sound like you just gotta do PvP in GW to play it, that's a big lie, lots of PvE stuff to do, lots of content, i played it for almost three years and i have only done PvP around 5-10% of the time.
