To have more time to play games I have given up sleeping. It's hard for the first few days but you get used to it. I sleep about 4 hours a day at the moment. I feel horrible but it's worth it.

I can play at work (afk grinding with one hand on alt+tab) but I don't know if I'll keep my job for much longer cause my boss is always telling me to work or I'll get fired image

I manage to play about 20 hours a day and I have a full time job. I also had a gf but she left me a few months back which I'm ok with cause she took a lot of valuable game time away from me.

What is there to discuss? Gaming takes priority. Anyone who says differently is just spewing sacrilegious blasphemy.

I have been playing MMORPGs for a good 5 yearsish so far, and I have never had problems balancing real life with my gaming. MMORPGaming is my way of relaxing, so I do it rather than other leisure activities like watching TV, always leaving room for work that needs to be done. Now and again I have had to adjust how much I play according to real life requirements, but I have never been so deeply involved that this has been a huge problem.

Its easy, if you can't get off the game within 5 minutes of needing to shut down, you have a problem...  Otherwise time management is easy, play when you can and have fun doing so!!

I think the true trick is knowing your limitations. I just graduated with my AAP in IT-Multimedia with a 3.94 GPA, and I still played about 10-12 hours a week. All while taking care of my two children and taking out the garbage. I find it helps to get  my children interested in what I am playing, so they watch while I play. It's a zen thing, all about balance.

It's also good to find a woman who enjoys video games as well, and plays them with you. My fiance wasnt too big on Video games, but she loved playing UO with me, even tho all she really did was redecorate the house every day lol

Anyone rmember that before there were MMORPGs, there were RPGs, and Magic The Gathering, Castle Wolfenstein, and DOOM.

Sheesh!  I'm really showing my age here.

I survived all of that, pulled good grades, and graduated in 4 years from a top 10 Academic College.

    How?

Luck and genetics.  Pure and simple.

See, some people have the genetics to look cool, run fast, or lift weights.  Mine, allow me to geek out the best of them, attend class, and not have to study.   All my papers in College were all-nighters, written in less than 24 hours from the time they were due.

My best friend did the same thing, with a bit lower of a GPA.  It's all in the genes, I'm telling you.

    The rules are:

    Well rested; well tested.

You can sleep when you're dead.

    Geeks aren't made.... They're born...

ghehe i am 19 and played al the games you said (only MTG i started that this year but i played doom and wolvenstein and even commander keen. and there no shame in being older thethe rest of us :D the olde rther more xp! and it doesnt mather how old you are when youre a gamer you're a gamer !

Commander Keen rocked =^)  Oregon Trail and Gold Rush were fun as well!

As for time management, it's just a matter for me of making sure everything I need to do is done.  I don't log in until I've finished the dishes, done needed housework, etc.  I would think the same for school - come home, get the homework out of the way, log in.

Only time I have to rework my schedule is when I want to attend a planned raid - I can go hardcore on housework the previous day, and plan dinner in advance for something easy or prepped.  My boyfriend plays the same games as I do for the most part, so it's never an issue in our household.

Let's see, I have a job, I go to school full-time (maintaining a 3.9 GPA and just graduated with my first degree), I have two kids and of course a wife.  I play games, not necessarily mmorpgs, about 20-25 hours per week, usually 30 max.  My oldest son gets interested (he is 4), but he watches me do everything like build computers and program as well, so I think it is good for him.  I get off work at 10:00pm so I come home, spend a little time with my wife, she gets tired and goes to sleep and I usually play from 11:00 - 2:30am.  I get up at about 7:30-8 depending when my kids do.  I make em breakfast, play with them a bit until about 10 of so, then my oldest gets on his computer and I let the little one (1.5 years) run around and do his thing.  I nap when they do.  Basically most of my game time is during weekdays, weekends are usually family time, but I still play at night unless my wife does.  Still no matter what, family comes first.

And rotanimal, there is much more to life than playing 20 hours/day.  It's your life, but hell, it's gonna be a lonely one.

if yousleep in daytiime and work at night when do you have the time to play mmorpg???

  • Sir-SvenSir-Sven Member Posts: 773

This is an easy question. No play, all work. That's how it is for me. That's how I manage the time.
I don't play any games right now. I don't know if I ever will again. But gaming took up so much of my time it was ridiculous. I'm reading more, doing more chores, and watching some TV. But I also go out and do stuff. I don't spend hours gaming, but I do have an irregular sleep pattern. I woke up at 2:30 PM today. And right now it's 2:00 AM.

I've done an all nighter when I played. Went to bed when everyone was waking up. I had to run to bed before they caught me.

Get important stuff done before gaming. That's as simple or complex as you make it. I work fulltime and goto school fulltime and still manage AT LEAST 2 hours a day of gaming, even on some of my busiest days. When it comes to school I suppose it depends on how serious you are. Frankly, I could care less if I got an A or a C in my classes as long as I pass. So if you're an underachiever like myself go for the C, it'll leave you with more gaming time ::::02::

I find it all easy to be honest. All you have to do is remember that it is a game and not something which should take rule over your life. Balance is important, but I tend to have an order of priority:

    1) Studies -if it needs doing, do it!

    2) Going out -having fun irl, dont lock yourself in a room all day playing your game!

    3) Gaming -When your not doing the above, do this image

For me, it is as simple as that.

anyone manage to play alot of mmorpg (5-10hours +) and still get good grades in schooL?

i played roughly 6 or more hours a day and around 30-40 hours a week playing games and i managed to rip down a 3.8gpa and a 3.3 gpa good for president and dean's list. But it's all about time management. That and just getting done what has to get done. The more you fool around doing things the longer it takes
