I am trying to decide which game I want to try again. I played DDO the first couple of months it was out, but lost interest due to lack of content and some other issues.
Have they added a lot more?
Are most of the bugs fixed?
How is it to solo? My friends were playing the last time.
Thanks for the help.

Content is more than double since launch, with a whole new starting area coming in the next mod in May. Start of crafting has been added, limited PVP, much more soloing, large "explorer areas" which are huge zones to wander around and have fun in, etc. Dragonmarks are in game, 7 raids now...even more.
Yes, you CAN solo easier, but grouping is still the best way to play IMO, but it's also REALLY easy since the server merges of several months ago.
Absolute best time to come back now. You said you played DDO in the past when it first came out. Well this week I think starting tomorrow you can play your old characters for free, for a week. So download the high-res client if your computer can handle it and see if the game has improved in your opinion. Also 6.1 live event this week and special pricing for DDO if you decide to resub.

I have my free vet trial invitation and will log on when allowed at 10:00 am (hopefully est). I only played a month when it came out, but it was far too medium-large group dependent and had no 'world' . Over time, I have heard it has been improved for small groups and solo players and there is more to see, so the freebie actually motivated me to try the game again. I hope it is good.....
There is a TON of content now. The Harbor is the same, but much was added to the Market and the great Houses - House quests start at level 4!
You CAN solo to level cap, but IT IS NOT EASY to solo past the Harbor quests [at level, anyway]. I have one character that exclusively soloes that is on the crux of level 6. People who claim that it is easy to solo: 1. Have a higher level character that has already done each quest in a group, so they know where the traps, ambushes, etc are 2. Have twinked their solo character with the gear they need to do each quest. The removal of the xp loss on death has helped tremendously! Soloing can be done, but expect to die 1-2 times on medium length quests as a learning curve - you'll also learn what gear you need to complete that quest. If you get frustrated soloing/dying - find or start a group!
There are many opinions on the best class to solo with - personally, I am Cleric 3/ Rogue 1/ Wizard 1. The Cleric is for armor and healing, the Rogue is for traps and unlocking doors, the Wizard may have been a mistake - I took it for wand/level 1 spell use [Feather Fall ftw!], but that could be done with "clickies" and 50% wand use [1st level spell wand] using UMD with a 2nd Rogue level. I'm debating what to increase at level 6 - it's a long time between levels, so bumping Cleric seems a priority; then again, the level 2 Rogue Feat: Evasion, the Rogue enhancements for decreased damage [is it from traps only?], and the extra skill points are all nice, too.
Last bit of advice: Get a Holy Weapon [from the AH - I don't know what collectable gives them, if any, but I haven't seen one yet as treasure, either]. Holy weapons do an extra 2d6 against any evil creature, which are most things in the game [not slimes/oozes, constructs, animals, or "vermin", so look out for Bane weapons for them, also!]

Lack of Content
Medium-Large Group Dependant – Solo?
Lacked a “World”
Bugs
I also quit playing DDO in the second month after launch for the same reasons. I returned a year later and even though I’ve canceled my account a few times my absence never lasted more then a few weeks. I play a lot of other games so occasionally something will hold my attention better when it’s new.
Turbine has implemented a lot of content since DDO launched. I believe it’s estimated there’s twice as much content now then there was two years ago. The new outdoor slayer/explorer areas are pretty good and it seems as if Turbine is developing their content around these new areas.
The outdoor areas are the best location to solo. It might not be the most efficient way to level up the loot is pretty darned good at the higher levels. I regularly solo the Vale for loot and I’d say it’s been one of the most esthetic additions to the game thus far.
Grouping at some point is going to be necessary to complete a quest. As it stands, I have a hard time soloing for more then 10 minutes before someone is wanting to invite me to a group or to join mine.
The “game world” is larger although it’s kind of in the same category as it was 2 years ago. Including the outdoor areas does make up for this to some degree though. The higher level outdoor areas have quite a bit of reply value to them.
There are still a few annoying bugs:
Can’t purchase an item – have to click on sell, then reclick on buy to workaround.
Out Of Range. This happens when casting range spells at targets. It’s been more common over the last 2 months.
Must Face Target. This is also something that happens when attempting to cast a spell at a target infront of you. I believe the AI is too “zippy” for the server to accurately report where the mob is instead of it behaving like it’s a participant to quantum mechanics.
Out of Range, part deux. This is another bug where casting a positional AoE spell claims the location is out of range. Problem here is it happens when trying to cast a spell at the ground near your feet!
Casting Spells without effects. As it implies, this one isn’t terribly common but I notice it. Cast Haste and no one gets it. Cast a random buff spell, spend spell points, and no one gets buffed.
These bugs shouldn’t be too obvious to you. I’m only expressing what bugs I know of since it was asked.
The game is still a lot of fun and very much worth it if you like strategy gaming in multiplayer environments. DDO requires a lot more thought before actions then other mainstream mmo’s.
UPDATE:
I have the game down loaded, logged in and can't play. It is after 10:00 am pst....says my subscription is free of charge, but my account remains inactive. Since I am not a current paying player, I cannot ask for assistance on the forums. The customer support FAQ's don't address this (or I missed it). Unless I can be enlightened on what other step I must take to access the free trial, or if it magically goes 'live' for me in the in the very near future, I guess I will just be SOL, or I should say Turbine will....another potential subscription lost.
I would be very appreciative if someone here can shed some light on this situation. Thanks

I really appreciate your assistance Sevenwind....but I cannot log into the forums as an inactive player. It looks like utter Turbine mismanagement. My husband's account easily came up on the free vet trial. His account accurately reflected his purchase history (pre-order & standard) and the last credit card used, where as my account inaccurately only shows the pre-order and deactivation date and my INACTIVE status. I am not going to jump through hoops to get my account sorted out just to try a vet trial. I have no interest in starting a free trial account - if it was that important, I would have done that a long time ago.My husband refuses top play without me, so that represents two vet accounts that will not be recovered.
Good job Turbine. /golf clap
It seems to be a semi-common problem listed on the DDO forums. It also seems to be related to which server the player was on BEFORE the merger. On the other hand, if you & your husband only played together on the same server [no characters on any other servers?], then yours may be a different problem. I hope they can get this sorted out for you - the game has improved greatly since year 1.
I also hope that the Market quests are still accessible - I really don't want to have to dodge devils to try to get into a quest!

My husband and I played on only one server. It is obvious that may account is screwed up - the purchase history doesn't even show me owning the standard game - just the pre-order. I certainly am not going to 'buy' the game again. It wasn't worth the premium I paid for it the first go around at launch!
If this is how badly they mismanage the game and accounts, then I must consider myself spared a lot of future frustration....I have 'cancelled' without having actually cancelled.
Either way, I hope you (uncus), and Sevenwind have continued luck and entertainment with Turbine... to all others - you stand warned.
I'm having similar problem - still waiting for "switch" to be thrown so that I can access. I've been seriously considering returning to the game, but don't want to spend the money to see if I still like it. Hopefully they'll get it resolved so I can try it out again.
I suspect the dissent is a passionate responce that exemplifies how bad you honestly want to play. In which case I understand, but "you" should send Turbine's customer service that handles DDO an email detailing that your account shows DDO as "Pre Order" although no inclusion of the actual game its self. It doesn't make sense for a multitude of random forum posters to attempt to guess the specifics when asked by Turbne for more information that we/us would not be privy to.
A little effort goes a long way...

I did try...going through worthless FAQ's, and other threads that linked me to other 'helpful' threads. I spent more time on it than I should have and am done with it. Yes, I was looking forward to the trial, but no, I WILL NOT run through more hoops to get it. You may feel I should, I don't . I am not in the mood to convince a game company that I have played, to please reset it, yada, yada , yada. Not interested in e-mail tag. I made my decision - you seem disturbed that I didn't do enough - but that is the point - I shouldn't have to do more than down-load and play. If I really wanted to 'play again', I would have done so far before now. Like I said in my earlier post...it was the vet trial that even motivated me to be curious enough to try again...no more than that. I am put off by mismanagement, especially if I try to work around it to some extent - no more, no less. Sounds like you maybe a sensitive DDO player......please don't read so much into it.

Not sensitive about it at all.I simply think you're in the same category of people who complain about polotics but never vote. You should have sent an email with all the account specific information to Turbine rather then piss and moan about not wanting to do anything at all. Logic would have had you ingame by now.
Why have you still not sent an email?
I agree that the FAQ and "Help" function are not very useful [the search engine is a POS!]
I found the following comment by one of the Devs on the DDO site, if you wish to try it:
