This game is a lot of people's dream MMO.  put's a lot of stock into player ability, has a class based system that borrows a bit from skill based systems, and takes a lot of the complexity from MMO's to further decisions(in a shooter everyone has a gun and it shoots, lots of combat decisions to be made here).

It pretty much is kinda shooter like when you play it.  if you attempt a 'hehehehe I have a sword now and can cut while standing still' on starter mobs you WILL die if you aren't moving around and dodging attacks.  you are even encouraged to follow your own natural progression for stuff you can take out instead of the MMO traditional you're this level you kill these(because we say so).

probably the only MMO releasing this year that's going to challenge and be fun all the way through.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

Great description of a very interesting mmorpg. Will tcos be remembered as the first  mmorpfptg to break away from the norm and make online gaming so much more involved.

This could bring another section of players to the mmorpg fold mainly because of the character movement.

I thought fptg is a good description of what this game offers. first person target game...lol a bit long but relevant...

    That looked awesome...

    Smooth and fast and fun.

This just may be the action packed MMO I've been waiting for....

Now if only they'd confirm a U.S. publisher!

Q2 2008 is too far away for this game!

Looks good, its nice to see a game that is more or less going to have the same specifications to run as WoW maybe slightly more look as good as that. This video did not have that lag that keeps showing up in their videos as well, and they have finally done something about their animations.

Hoping this game is as good as it looks, it really needs some hype though outside of these forums and the official site I doubt many have even heard of it.

Edit: Forgot to mention I want to see this game succeed for 2 reasons:

    1. No stupid item grind is built into the game.

    2. The combat system.

If it proves popular it can encourage other developers to try something new instead of the same old same old.

i don't like that spinning action bar :( ...game looks good though :)

  • Lord.BachusLord.Bachus Member RarePosts: 9,686

That spinning action bar is the core of this games combat...

Somehow i wonder how people can say they like and don't like something they have never ever experienced. You should try it out first before judging it.

This rolling action bar allows you access to 30 abbilities while still allowing for FPS action. That rolling action bar combines action paced combat and startegy in one perfect little interface.

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

You are not the only one to comment about the Skill-deck bar. Here is a quote from Matthew  about the skill deck and vid..

    The Combat Bar.

It's huge make it smaller! Well, in the game it actually is a lot smaller and I could say how we intentionally blew it up for clarity, but the truth is that it is a bug when playing in hd (1280x720). Look closely and you'll also notice the sides of the graphic are cut off and not nicely rounded like they should be. It's a nice bug to have for the movie though, as it shows the combat bar large enough for anyone to see what's going on.

You had a valid point but i think this quote answers your question.

Ah yes... normally its not even half the size... Somehow they managed to make it bigger to show people how it works. But then Matthew explained it on the officiall site as posted above.

About the skin we even do agree, but if things turn out as supposed, skins should be customisable.

Everyone is talking and waiting for War and AoC. I have been following the development of TCoS for a couple years now and been a forum member there for well over a year. This is the game I have high hopes for and am waiting for. It suprises me how a lot of mmorpg members seem to have missed or over looked this game.

I really like the art style of this game. I love the CoH/CoV character creation approach. If it is half as deep as that character creation, building your toon will be fantastic. The over all look is tight and consistent which I hope will help create deep immersion. If they market this game right it maybe the big suprise of 2008.

Absolutely loving that combat vid. I have deliberately paid no attention to this game, with no expectations it can only be the game itself that dissapoints but a quick look at the combat couldn't be passed up.

I agree, the combat system really is something different, the mix of fast twitch based actions and the strategy from the rolling UI makes this game look like a real contender for MMO of the year imo.

Of what little music is there, that also sounds fantastic.

    -------------------------------
    MMOs that I'm waiting for:
    WAR
    Aion
    SGW
    TCoS
    Darkfall
    STO

On the subject of tcos music ,have a look at this 2 week old vid. Its a great vid and really shows the devs commitment to immersion and sound.

    Yes, same here.

This game has fallen off my radar, but after seeing this impressive vid, I am totally liking what I am seeing.

I don't think the Skilldeck is too difficult to understand.  It just seems like "gated" attacks or skills, which would become second-nature after a while.

    Very impressive!

I was also impressed with the video.

Ive been waiting for a good game to play for a couple of years now. And now 3 good games comes out at once. It will be tough to decide

I have a problem. Everyone i know will play AoC : ( And im trying to get them to consider TCoS instead.  This video really helped me : )

But sadly, most mindless gamers sems to go for hype rather on pure game magic.

Dont worry I dont think AoC will be the hit every one thinks it will, specifications required to play it will see that that (you think they learn from VG)... WAR will make a splash and quickly sink without trace then all we have left is TCOS yay!

It looks cool, but (and don't hate me for this) the textures and overall look feel a bit dated? Or maybe it's the general color pallet that feels weird. Anyways overall I do dig it. But the giant weapon trails, giant spell effects, added to twitch gaming is gonna be a pain when I can't see the mob cuz my group is attacking it and it's moving around, and there's tons of spell effects and weapon trails. When EQ2 first came out it's spells were over the top with particle effects and when 4+ people fought one mob it was blinding you couldn't see the mobs. I worry this might have the same issue when it comes out.

I think the word "weird" is the wrong word to use when describing TCoS graphics, its more of "different". Something the MMO community have asked for for years.

And for me beeing from Sweden, the graphics looks very close to all european "fairy tells" cartoons i saw as a kid. So its very "relaxing" for me to watch the look of the graphics they have : )

  • altairzqaltairzq Member Posts: 3,811

So it's basically Magic the Gathering in 3D,

This is a good point about the graphics. The first thing I thought was there was a cultural feel to the graphics. The Dutch have a long history of a unique approach to their art with innovative ideas that go back to the artist Jan Van Eyck. We certainly see the cultural style with asian mmos. This extends to Europe as well with their own take on graphics. It maybe a bit more subtle then Asian graphics but there is a difference for American eyes. I think we saw this in Saga of Ryzom as well.

I for one really like the look of TCoS. Although the world has gotten smaller with the internet and we get exposed to different style easier. We can not dismiss the difference in how we look at art. I like Asin mmos mainly for the graphic more then the game play. Mostly because I feel like I am really playing a game from a different culture. That difference in TCoS is smaller but it is there. With the Dutch rockband Within Temptation providing some of the music we should have a great game and a bit of a cultural experience as well.
