I quit FFXI after getting to 55 Dragoon. It was just so insane leveling up. It woulda taken me about 12+ hours just to get to the next level. And I'm talking about constantly killing monsters 12 hours just to level up. Not very easy.

Im at 30 hours of FFXI and ive just started exploring the options for other mmorpgs. But for as much entertainment ive gotten out of this game, it was totally worth the money. I really love this game. really really. yeah theres gripes, but ... it happens. overall this game has been great for me. its addictive as all hell, which is a good sign, and its absolutely beautiful, even on ps2, which dosnt look that much worse than the comp.
The game gets a bad rap. i really like it. *shrug*

yup, I got to Bard 50ish.....I just couldn't handle it anymore...especially when you go through hell in certain zones only to have to do it again if you go for a special class.
Thats wasn't the BIG reason why I left....just a lot of small reasons that added up into one big one

I would definatley go EQ without a doubt or you could just wait it out for eq 2 but ya i'd say go eq because that platinum edition is only 30 bucks for like every expansion and there is alot of stuff to do what ever you wish and they got rid of the hell levels and stuff quite awhile ago so it's all good, kinda made it alot easier but w/e.
Since it's so cheap your better off, if your really interested, to go with eq because even if you end up hating you'll have only paid 30 bucks as apposed to w/e the price of FFXI is, i think it's like 70 somethin or 80 canadian, not sure tho. Just go with what you really want to play.
Much more recent and much more annoying. It CAN be a good game if you don't mind constant mob killing. This isnt racist like a lot of people like to jump to but it was made for the more Asian friendly gamers, which is too much work for us americans (most of us anyways) If you can handle everything being hardcore hard then you go with FFXI. You might be a little more relaxed with EQ though, and just because it is 4 years old doesnt mean it is no good anymore (aparently it is still good since it is going on 4 years now). So just go with eather (FFXI pretty hard to level, your stats are same as everyone elses[str, con ect], better graphics, and to me good controls with a gamepad / or EQ great gameplay, controls are good, more depth and content the graphics are way outa date, but it is okay because the inner beauty is what counts in eq)
Just do this, read thousands of reviews and posts of each game and pick out the parts of opinions that are all in the threads, like most for ffxi will admit there is a hard grind ect.

I find the statement that EQ folk are friendly a bit relative.
This depends on what server you decide to use.
The Rathe is a server where its every man for himself and every man thinks he knows the game best. You will be ridiculed for not knowing things.
Maelin Starpyre is a friendly server where folks actually will help you out.

I'd go with FFXI. EQ is out-dated. Yeah, 4 years ago it was the greatest game ever, but FFXI is much more-recent, both in graphics and gameplay.
