DnL will be the best MMORPG waht so ever (at least considering options that devs showed us and some

I've played many MMORPGs. Started soon after release of UO, played it for a while, and got bored. I've never been a fun of ORIGIN games but i gave this game another chance after the releaseof UO: 3rd Dawn, which was a mistake. Afterwards I tried AC and played for less than a month, got bored again (the only good thing about this game was a huge world around but i felt like playing offline with few people around me trying to do something i didn't understand).

Ifterwards i finally bought EQ and just loved this game, playing for more than 2.5 years. But because i didn't want to join any guild at some point i levelled slower than everyone around me. After few months my chracter (Ylos at VEESHAN - druid) was still lvl37 and i started to think about quiting the game (even in my opinion it's the best MMORPG on the market).

Few days ago I got SWG thinking finally i have something where i don't need to level so much and i'll be still able to play with people who spend tens of hours in front of the display playing it..... But OMG, waht did i do????? There is no competition at all, i made my character master artisan in 2 days (TWO DAYS of moderate playing) and got dissapointed. Player community is the worst one I've seen. This game looks like noone knows what to do there, just crafting and selling without any point and story, no progress and i think even planned datadisk cannot change the main issue of the game which is just missusing of the famous SAGA-name STAR WARS. Developers created the most expensive chat all around enveloped in a beutiful graphics and selling it by the name tried to make some money. I cancelled my subscription after 3 days (thanx  God i didn't pay for it anything extra) and uninstalled the game without using all 30 days included with the game itself.

I've been waiting for EQ2 for so long but after playing SWG and seeing the new concept of MMORPG made by SOE got dissapointed and lost my illusion. I think EQ2 will be almost the same as SWG but in the fantasy world. No point to buy it, SOE finished for me.....

That's why i think that Online RPG community needs something new to play. WoW and DnL can be the way to go. I'm a big fan of Warcraft series so i expect WoW to be the perfect game ith a beutiful world based on the well-known story (even i am a bit scared of misusig the name - sorry BLIZZARD, nothing against you, just a bad XP with SWG). But especially DnL will bring new wind to the world and i hope it will show the garce of MMORPG...

But to decide which game will be better we need time and some playing XP. I'll try both games and maybe if both of them will be fun subscribe both of them...

As to the UX, i respect UO for one reason  - it brought us MMORPG as such but hands away from it, it's going to be boring and as any other "named MMORPG".

Sorry for takeking so long to describe what i think.

I've been to many places, i've seen so many faces...

Yes, DnL has great potential (how often have we seen those words image).

From what I know DnL and WoW are completely different games. DnL will have strategic realm and economic motivated PvP while WoW is more conventional PvE and questing. So I am curious on why you find both so exciting?

I didn't last long in SWG either.

DnL I honestly believe will be a really great game.  It has all the old aspects of a good game, and some revolutionary new ones too.  There is an extremely massive world to explore, several classes and races to choose from, and also what looks to be like some really great gameplay to go along with the story line.  Personally my two favorite features about this game are the size of the world which they say is approx. 15000 square miles, and also the government/pvp system that allows you to steal castles and towns.  I am worried though that there may not be that many people to play because of all the other big name games coming out.  What would a giant world be if there was nobody in it to play with.  From what i see more attention is going to EQ2 and WOW when here is were the real attention should be.  Hopefully with the beta DnL can build a larger fan base, and therefore make a better game.

I have to agree with the topic!

The New stuff that the Dev team has come up with is awesome. With that said; I hope it works!

I do have to say i am not that keen on the modeling, if they could make the models look like Warhammer Online's then it would be truely awesome.

I think the devs here have the idea: Make the software to fit the game, not vice versea.  Truely seems they had some cool ideas and said " Ok lets make it happen!" Instead of "well that is a neat idea BUT the software won't ..... or Well but then we run into this issue or that issue!"

Sadly, I think I am truely burned out on the Fantasy Genre of these games; thanks to EQ.

But will Play DnL for sure ( If I don't get addicted to CoH to bad LOL )

I'm totally in agreement. I played EQ myself back when it was the only 3d mmorpg on the market, and while it was good, it seriously lacked some very important features IMO.

Then I heard about a wonderful game called Horizons in development. My jaw dropped after reading about all the great things they were gonna implement! It was candy for the imagination. I also heard of DAoC around the same time and noticed that it was gonna be released before Horizons.

So I figured I'd play DAoC and it's version of pvp until Horizons came out. DAoC was fun for a while, but got stale. And of course, we all know what happened to Horizons :) So I was stuck with just DAoC.

THEN...I heard about DnL. It was like a godsend. Sorta similar to what Horizons was gonna be, only better :) I'm actually excited about an upcoming release again! I quit DAoC over a year ago and spend my game time playing various games, including the curiously addicting (and free) Wyvern.

If the DnL devs can deliver what they're promising, it's gonna set new standards in the industry. The market's flooded with pve games. What we need is a good PVP game that does it right! Just gotta keep watching and see if delivers what it promises.

Well seeing how WoW should be released atleast 3 months before DnL, it should give us plenty of time to play WoW first and enjoy it and/or get tired of it and then pick up DnL once it comes out. The potential in DnL is huge, I just hope the devs can pull it off.
  • holycannoliholycannoli Member Posts: 236
Same here. Horizons couldn't pull it off so they changed their entire design, and look what happened. But DnL is way past the stage Horizons was when it got changed, so my hopes are high :)

I'm sorry but i think this game will be an utter failure. The world is much to large and i don't think there will be enough subscribers to even begin to populate it what with other next gen games coming out (EQ2 Wow). It is gonna be like a Single player game you pay to play ...YUCK!image

Wrender, you don't know anything about Dark and Light do you?

  • AnnekynnAnnekynn Member Posts: 1,437

Wrender obviously youre missing one important fact: DnL will have no seperate servers/shards. Everyone playing the game will play on the same server farm/world. So while the world may be very big, instead of sharing it with 2500 players you might share it with 25,000 players. Thus the world has to be big enough to give everyone enough room to play in without dealing with huge crowding problems.

The majority of the new wave of big name mmorpgs are missing many key aspects that will revolutionize the genre. In reality all the games are just going to be like pre-existing games, but instead you now have the option of going full 3-d as in you can fly, and the graphic will be slightly better. As well you can buy a plot of land you that doesn't really do anything for you. These MMORPGs continue to neglect the attention span of the characters. The revolve around real-world physics, but these physics are simply not action paced enough.

Not many developers get this but the players dont wanna be like a real person, they are already that. The player wants to be a fantasy, they want to attack 10-20 times in a second, they want to move extremely fast, they want the levels to keep coming and going. They want to be in a race to be the most powerfullest in the world, or simply the best in thier area of expertise. In most mmorpgs you are usually always less powerful then the main NPCs. This is one huge error many developers make. Also the attack speed is limited to 1~4 moves, and you attack once every couple second, which is pretty boring. Not to mention the only output they have to be more powerful is limited to killing monsters.

  • CleffyCleffy Member RarePosts: 6,414

What the genre really needs is a mutable world, where the level is practically indefinate, and there are multiple ways to be more powerful depending on your interest. Not to mention a mecha of PVP, with an organzed ranking system. The best way to frame-work an MMORPG is to base it around constant competition. When you start you will be in a small area of competition that will grow as your character grows.

Also what would excessively make the game better is to have more in the game then just combat and leveling. They need ways for people to get away from the actual game when they get bored. I am pretty certain everyone gets the 1 month boredom period. The game is fun but after a month the game is boring. And that period is usually when thier account expires. By adding mini-games that have little relevance to the game, it would be hard to get bored. Ofcourse while also interdeveloping it into the world, and giving the player somewhere to go to play mini-games against other people.

They've been in a Stabability test ofr almost a year and their plan was 3 months a differnet test err every 3 months.....so far I'm disappointed with this game
  • OaksteadOakstead Member Posts: 455

Columbdawg, We are all disappointed at the delay but the reason has to do with implementing dynamic loading in the server cluster. This is where all the servers seek to have the same CPU loading no matter where in the game the heaviest activity is occuring. This is essential if large lag free battles in unpredictable locations are ever going to happen. The Dark and Light team tried doing this on their own but couldn't so they licensed a new engine that claims to have this ability from BigWorld Technologies. The devs thought all was ready not too long ago and promised a to bring in a new wave of beta testers near the end of June. Since this hasn't happened we can assume that the integration of this new game engine with their existing material did not go as well as expected.

Darkfall is also delayed because of this problem. EVE-Online just recently got this technology to work in a simpler space sim environment but their latest big patch lagged everything up and the devs had no clue as to why. They had to bring in network experts from outside to figure it out.

These games are at the cutting edge of gaming technology.

This is so true. Dark and Light will have a social web due to clan, feudal organization, professional guilds, and god faction (religion) that will provide some of these diversions. For example, the power of one's god is dependent on the number of his followers. While some races have asigned gods others get to choose their gods. The competition for converts would seem to be a mini-game. Also the high nobility in the feudal hierarchy will have to keep the lessor nobles happy (they elect their leaders) and that means keeping people active and trading in their lands. So events of various kinds will have to be held on the initiative of the nobility.

Also players get to practice three main professions: fighting, exploring, and crafting/trading with persistent markets. If you are bored with one character try another in a different kingdom.

This game does seem very special... the screenshots and videos take me back to the earlier days of Asheron's Call (which were amazing on Darktide) especially how the game has arabic towns that look so pretty at night.

It was more a private interview than a public devchat.

Aye, agreed with most of your statements. DnL has me hoping once again that there will be an MMOG worth playing -- the only other MMOG I'm hyped about at this time is one that has yet to be mentioned... Dungeon and Dragons Online; while it's not slated for release until 2005 it looks great so far.
