You don't care about the game rules matching up with the fictitious worlds' rules?

Forcing a character to equip certain items alone is just an easy cop-out. .....It is completely different than a "class" and the skills and abilities that a class might have. (anyone can pick up a rock or swing a sword around, but someones dna is personal!) ....Anyway, aren't they creating a "world" of conan?  ...The rules of that world should truly create a world, right?  ...I don't know... I for one appreciate a detailed and form fitting ruleset. .......The rules and concepts are what details the design, they are what makes each world what it is!

The people arguing the point that every class should be able to wear any type of armor they want don't much understand the fact that a game's balance is more important than them looking as cool as they want.  However, I think that it could be done feasibly by letting everyone wear any type of armor but forced to pay a price.  Such as a caster wearing armor would have a reduction in their hit rating and would miss a lot more, same with ranged DPS like a Ranger.  Also a Rogue would move a lot slower negating any sort of move speed buffs they might receive as well as their attack speed being lowered dramatically by the weight of the armor.  Things like that could help the implementation of a "wear all" policy.

    Right on.

No doubt, it would take more coding to fullen the feature... ...but it could be as easy as coding in "proficiency" which would need a few lines per class per item. Though, going so deep as to have heavy armor weigh you down and features like that is even better!

....If I do play AoC I will probably try out the herald first of all, but, the lame rules that are written in for balance, without also binding to the game "lore" (or whatever you call the rules and ideas of a fictional universe) ...is lazy, no doubt.

I don't think any developers claim limitations are set there because of lore, most of them will admit its for game play balance (and because they're to lazy to implement a system like above).  Only the players make excuses like "because of the lore" on topics like this.  Ignore them.

Note that I'm not for nor against a "wear all" system in the game.

Its not very hard. In SoR the weight of the armour was calculated into mana usage. You could be a healer or mage in heavy armor. But you where oom after two casts. It balanced itself perfectly.

Buts its not that bad in AoC. Its official confirmed that the game has slot(s) for social clothing. And its possible to use the inventory layers in different ways. Thats a quite ok customization..

Looking to be the Bear Shaman for me.

Its certainly a hard choice though the ranger looks especially good too.

I dunno, Its just sad to see so little thought put into games these days (not that the past was any better....)

I understand that time is constantly "ticking" their money away (now that they have started production) and so, at this point in the games creation, it is a little late to sit back and calculate a better design that takes both balance and "lore" into consideration. ....like some kind of dna strand ....you have two strings.... two layers to adhere to.

I for one, Love game design... I love the rules... I love the lore... I love the creation.. ...I might even enjoy creating more than I enjoy playing these games....

But I have no doubt that the only reason I would enjoy creating games more than playing them...is becuase I have never created one... AND all of these games that are created are absolute junk like this game I am ranting over

no direct offense to AoC...cuz every game is a lazy knock off of possibility

people who make games these days... just seem to want money... the funders.. the makers... gosh darned every body!

...no...one...   ....seems... to want.... a masterpiece.....

and no one can do anything.... money creates a monopoly... this society.. creates limits...

and as a gamer, I can not just ...not buy... their product, THEIR PRODUCT is the only one around!!!!! If I don't buy...I don't play.

maybe you aren't fully appreciating quite how awesome some of the games around today really are... they are truly extraordinary achievements IMO.

MMOland is seeking its next masterpiece, but as a whole I find the game industry is rocking like never before right now

yeah, yeah :P ....I got carried away with talking about the crappiness of games and something about a masterpiece, I should have only focused on the laze and the ugly of the rulesets they choose to implement.

it just goes to show me that the people who are making these games....They don't want to make games... they are just the people with the coding ability, just the people who got hired.

these games are based on "worlds" that are made with rules.... In Conans universe for example...CONAN CAN EQUIP WHATEVER HE WANTS TO MANNNNN....come onnn!

they are just coders..... not fiction writers.... they just want to make it work... they don't care about "lore"

  • EmanresuymEmanresuym Member Posts: 25

I don't know about the world of conan. ......but, in general, If you'r talking about mages trying to wear armor, I completely understand. ....you need to look for the warriors weilding magic : P ( who have no problem meditating while wearing heavy armor.... err... ..well.. atleast I suppose so... )
