I gurantee you that this game will introduce nothing new. When this game finally comes out in 8 years I'll pull up this thread again.
Comments
You think it will take 8 years?
...I don't think it will... but that's my guess.
I'm more willing to bet that once they get the base game down and a fairly sizable content load, they'll release what they have and continually add content (Dimensions, Luna, etc) as it goes.
I give it 2010, since they were working on it for 2+ years basically already.

I seriously would rather wait for Marvel's version of a superhero game.
This what's left of Marvell's Superhero Game. They hired Cryptic to do it with Microsoft, Microsoft ditched it, Cryptic moved all it's code and art over to this.

Some of you should visit the official site and see whats there.
It's expected to release next year, and they already have some gameplay footage in the trailer for the game.
Get CoX out of your heads, this is NOT going to be a remake of thier first game. It's already much bigger.
Wish Darkfall would release.
Wait i think they may have some form of in game money and there will be people from asia saling it and spaming their wears. What about we see what they do and see if the game if fun. I don't care if the game brings anything new to the mmo table all I care about is will it be fun and balanced with a huge replay factor to make me come back and play more.
If god loves the fools ,and god loves every one, dose that mean we are all fools.
Amen! ^^

really!? Dang. Is Champions going to be based on any of the two companies or more closer to the pen and paper RPG? I really liked the Marvel idea because I grew up reading Marvel Comics. It sucks that Marvel abandoned it.
Oh goodie, predictions for a game not yet in beta -- I love those.
Seriously though, what exactly are you expecting from the genre? If the gameplay is stale, it's probably just time to move on....
Cryptic actually bought the rights of the Champions PnP. When I say rights...I mean the characters, the world, and the backstory. When it comes to the HERO System, the character customization, the most info we've recieved is that it is inspired by HERO. What they mean by that, is that they want everyone to have the ability to be exactly the hero they want to be, by allowing everyone to access every power.
There are basic "archetypes" that have no restrictions except for it changes the amount a power costs when choosing them. So, if you pick the basic "melee" class, ranged attacks will cost more, etc.
You guys have obviously not done that much research that is already writing this game off. This game is adding some new features, especially when it comes to the class structure of MMO's, character customization (you get to design your own arch nemesis and secret identity). Not much more info in that regard has been released.
To get some more info on the game, I suggest go to www.champions-saga.com/index.php?page=faqs.htm
Yes. That was a shameless plug.

Hehe I find this very funny..
Everytime I read a new or semi-new thread about an upcoming game(maybe not even in beta) in this case not in beta I find this. I read a post from somebody merely pointing out a flaw in the game, then I notice a big signature representing the game. i read that guys post with the signature and always is just defending the living hell out of the game. This is the true definition of fanboi...Or is it? This game isent even in friggin beta not much can even be said at this point.
Well maybe its not that funny but I sure find it amusing..
I am surprised to see negativity here. Well, not entirely. I just disagree with the negativity.
I love Marvel too, but I don't think an MMO where you watch Wolverine and Hulk and Spiderman do all the cool stuff is appealing. When I see Marvel characters, I want to play as them. Creating your own character is cool and all, but less cool because you'd be in the shadow of all the Marvel greats. Marvel is a great license, but NOT playing as iconic characters is a huge letdown, and in another way, so is seeing others play as them. Marvel MMO = lose/lose.
Champions is a rockin' license, and it really is a lot better for this sort of game. After reading the preview in Game Informer, and thinking about the Champions license, I can only conclude that this is the perfect IP for an MMO.

Gear?
Okay, let's be honest from the start.
Whatever you do at max level, you can SOLO/GROUP/RAID and it will give you the SAME rewards. These devs are not suddenly going to become stone aged morons because 95% MMOs devs are backward.
2nd, if you don't like leveling up, don't play it. The game you will see while leveling up, THIS IS IT!
3rd, If they can stop nerfing for a year or two; it will be MORE successfull than anything except WoW. They have PC gamers, they have 360 gamers.
No matter if they really go ACTION-packed (and lose players like me), or if they remain RPG-oriented (as in CoX and prolly interests me a lot)...I see this game changing the market. Heck, for all I know, maybe they will have ACTION-servers (l33t skills and reflexes) and RPG-servers (think as CoX), that wouldn't surprised me. Having different servers based on the gameplay you prefer would made sense...or to allow the player to switch gameplays, but then, this is getting edgy while making groups and would require some thinking.

This game is merely over a year from release. In 2 years, it will have more subscribers than WAR + AoC + EvE...and I am not sure if I will play it or not.

You're right. I was defending the game due to the fact that I'm excited about it, even if it is a long way off from being released. At the same time, people who come into a thread like this and bash them with the same amount of intensity that I defend it, are at the same level, just on the opposite end of the spectrum. So I can use the argument: "This game isent even in friggin beta not much can even be said at this point."
I wasn't really trying to defend the "flaw" the posters have "discovered" in an unreleased game. The game isn't even in beta so....how could there be a flaw?

Well all I can say is WOW!! I played Champions WAY back in the 80s and loved it. I spent days creating those Heros I loved in CITY OF HEROS and most of them came damn close to what I created on pen and paper.
The combo of CRYPTIC and CHAMPIONS IS A NO BRAINER END OF STORY! Even if all they were going to do was shine up the graphics and change npc names the game will still be fun for those that like the Super hero meliu. But , infact, they are doing much more and I am Super excited and will be there to try out the waters as soon as it is released.

More subscribers than AoC...More subscrobers than WAR...Are you kidding me. This game is not even close to release yet, and you are saying that? This game just has a group of fanbois..Nothing morew, nothing less.

LOL!!Man this is the final product of a atempt to do the "Marvel Online"
Still, CO will have little innovations like a personal arch-nemesis that you create and will try to thwart your character. I think that's a pretty novel idea.
And it will be made for the 360 so expect it to launch within 2 years. Considering consoles have a limited lifespan, any launch longer than that would be crippling to the game.
It's gonna be like D & D. If you haven't been all over the card game, pen and paper or w/e, then you will be a nub.
My prediction for this game:
FAIL
You know if a game does not suit you or your interests, don't play it. If you play the game and they in some way wrong you, then you can speak out about it, if you are looking for something to complain about, get a life.
This game is not even on the market yet and already there are people boo hooing about it. I know its the nature of the beast that there will always be some cynical jerk at every new idea's creation, but why not try to let the game thrive or fail on its own merit instead of attacking something that isn't even around to prove you right or wrong yet? If folks are so jaded by all the current and upcoming MMORPG's, why the heck are they even on this website? What possible interest do I have in their input on these forums if they do nothing but complain?
I have an idea, instead of crying about milk not yet spilled, lets make suggestions that can help future gamers find the adventure and fun we so enjoy in MMORPG's? You see a game coming on the horizon, maybe if we start informative threads giving the Dev's of said game insight into what we as gamers want and don't want, then they can build their new world into something we all have a chance to enjoy.
I'm new here so maybe this isn't the best way to start my posting life on these forums, but I can't seem to find a feature on these boards to IGNORE USER POSTS. Can anyone here tell me where that is?
Regrettably there is no ignore feature although I've requested one -- you should too!

your very first post, from an account made today.
jack, is that you?
not sure what all this is in response to; BUT, something more and more gamers ARE paying attention to is which dev(s) are behind each of these new games. if they've been involved with other games, that IS something to take into account - their attitudes and ideas that they brought to the other game(s).
it's like smed being involved in an mmo and everyone being surprised that it's not a triple A game.

i'm curious, in what fashion is it going to be bigger?
COx already has alternate dimensions and time travel, expandable bases, they even have several forms of loot (temp powers, io sets, costume parts); they have hero and villain factions, they have several PVP zones, giant monsters and/or events (supa troll ravers, fire fighting, etc) in various zones, along with giant monster island, they (unfortunately) have two *raid* events - hami and mothership; numerous TF/SF (city of's version of instanced dungeons),
i'm sure there's other things i'm forgetting.
i see that champions online is implementing the skills system which was talked about in cox, but not yet implemented.
