AMD 64 3400 not supported by windows?

DezlocDezloc Member CommonPosts: 52
i've been thinking about upgrading my old xp 2000 for eq2 to either a xp 3200 or a 64 3400, however the tech at the store i was gong to order from told me that the 64 bit amd processors are not supported by windows.  What does this mean? I know windows xp is a 32 bit os and does not fully use the capacity of the 64 3400 but is there also a perfomance degration?(in other words is the xp 3200 just as good)image

Windows does support AMD64! Look at this link:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/64bit/evaluation/upgrade.mspx

You can now download beta windows-64 for free. This beta alows you to automaticly dl all updates for 1 year from first dl date.

ATI has also beta 64 bit driver ... I don't know about Nvida.

    Buy AMD64 3400+, you won't regret .

The guys you were taking to had no idea what they were talking about. It is fully-supported by windows xp(very very fast load) and it can run Microsoft XP 64 also. You get the fastest 32-bit gaming now and all the 64-bit stuff a year from now. AMD64 have a on-die memory controller, better pipelines and a Hypertransport system making them faster than the older XPs. My amd 64 3400+ really puts the pain on my intel.

This really should be in off-topic or in the pub under general discussion, not hateing on you starting a topic, it's just you would probably get better and faster answers if you asked for computer advice/help in a forum section that is specified for this topic.

HEHEHEH... okay, I will be setting up my web-oages forum soon. the web-page is up but the short of it is that we are THE SEVEN EMPERORS TEAM, this teams is a collection of guys that is suppous to know everything about anything electronics. Our team could teach you to turn your gameboy into a area mapper. Or to teach you how to wire your printer to play pong. LOL! The url is www.seven-emperors.com. If you have a tech problem, plrease feel free, thats why we set up the web-page. We all students of an engineering course. From programing  software, electronics, cybernetics, mechanics, structures. Check out our profiles and corse studies. We also incourage people to talk about the newest circuit designs and so on.

Well other then that, if the forum is not up and you have a problem, don't have a problem if you email me your problems. We are trying to set up a database of troble shooting to solve peoples problems. Like our beleafe is, human knowlege belongs to other people not just the corps that charge you £30 just to look at your computers.

Sorry for beig off topic but I was just promoting my web-page and helping some guys out.

The tech store guy obviously don't know squat.

AMD64's are 32bit backward compadable, so they are able to run Windows fine, infact better than any 32bit chip on the market.

My suggestion, unless you have the money to blow away, just get an Athlon 64 3000+, The extra cache in the chip just isn't worth it right now, and your much better of spending that money on a new ram/graphics/hard drive etc.

Unless of course your a rich little ****
