Mark says Q2 CY 2008

http://www.warhammeralliance.com/forums/showthread.php?p=682480#682480

Feb 21, 2008

Folks,

Yeah, that site has it all wrong:

1) Our release date is currently unchanged and is still part of EA's planning for 2008.

2) Our release date hasn't been Q1 for quite a long time. As our CEO said in a previous earnings call, our date was moved to Q1 Fiscal Year 2008, not Q1 Calendar Year. EA, like most companies, operates on a fiscal year not a calendar year. So, in our case, FY Q1 = CY Q2. This is not the first time someone has confused CY and FY. As long-time members of this forum know, we've been looking at CY Q2 2008 for quite a while.

3) Whoever the spokesperson was (we have no idea who they talked to), didn't have a clue. Heck, even if we changed the release date, it would still have to be on EA's SKU planning schedule even if it was one year from now. The only way the WAR would be removed from the schedule is if we thought the game was in such trouble we would have to put it into turnaround or that the release date was so far away so it didn't make sense for it to be in there. Neither which is true and frankly, not even close to being true. So, I'm rather dubious about the source as well as the article.

So, that's the scoop. Much ado about nothing as usual. We're still working on WAR and things move along nicely. As I've said before, we'll change the release date if/when we feel it's necessary to make a great game but as of now, it hasn't been changed.

Mark

Its been Q2 CY 2008 for some months now. It even says so at the front page of this site.

I am well aware of this fact. However, if you take a look at a few threads (the 6 page thread about graphics for example), people are still unsure about when exactly the game is going to be released (FY vs CY). This post was made simply to clarify as to the fact the release is set for Q1 FY, which is Q2 CY.

We're just under 3 months away now where's the collector's edition?

Where's the option to even PRE ORDER IT!!  Where's some sort of date?

That report is over a month old now...they've not said a peep and as Much as I want this game and it won't daunt me any when they finally come out and admit there's a Delay I don't believe it.

Common sense and knowing Gaming Trends pretty much says the Game is Delayed or their Quarter 2 is NOT June.

Again, elvenangel, the post was made Feb 21, 2008. The date currently is March 11, 2008. That post is under 3 weeks old. What month has less than 3 weeks in it?

I do agree there is a lot of information lacking on the exact release, and the collector's edition, and the lack of pre-order is a bit odd, but this is their statement. There have been some games that just bypassed the pre-order step, so this part doesn't really surprise me.

As for collector's edition, I personally don't care if they even make a collector's edition (not like it takes them that long to whip out one once the game is finalized) since I see them purely as a way to gauge more money out of you. Not once have I thought "Wow, I'm sure glad I paid another $30 for this game to have a little extra pet and a music sound track". Also, they said in a pod cast they already had some of the items for the Collector's Edition picked out, although I forget what they said (if I recall correctly, most of it was blacked out by marketing).

blar whatever I dont think June is going to happen....Not having Release Information at this point pretty much says "We're not releasing in June"

Does that bother me? No..because I wanna play and I wanna play when the game is in a position worth being presented .... but still everyone keeps using the 'supposed' release schedule as an excuse to make complaints when I think its NOT an excuse to complain at all considering There's NO set release date, they've not said anything they've not fixed release information and they've not even released final classes or collector's edition information or EVEN crafting.  Those are some pretty big missing components that pretty much scream Delay from June.

Even though Mark says they're shooting for CY Q2...EA works on FY Q2.   I think its more likely to be September in the end.

Not to be really critical and all that, but I know a super-fantastic way to avoid Fiscal Year/Calendar Year confusion:

    Pick a freaking MONTH already!!!

You know, like JUNE or whatever ... hard to confuse May or June or July or whatever month you name with fiscals and calendars or freaking unicorns and fairies.

As much as I am too eager to play it live, I do not want EA to rush.  I love DAoC and I hope we have another game as enjoyable as DAoC.  I do not trust EA, I hope EA takeover does not mean watering down of WAR.

If it means September or December for a complete game so be it.  We should not blame EA for delaying the launch and then blaming EA for launching a half complete product.  One VG fiasco is enough.

If they are testing elves vs elves in beta now....

    already did stumpies vs greenies

and Humies vs Dem chaos blokes

I would guess all we have to do now is  have the all realms with all realms 1-20 and then full level up 1-40 with all game and end game content open too.. then stress test and we are done!

My question or shall we say what I'm curious about is...

If this game came out in Q2 of 2008... and it clearly needed to have had 6 months to 12 months more development time.

Would you stick with it... or would you drop it li ke a steaming NGE?  Or for those of you that don't know what that means... a steaming pile of dog poo.

Just curious.. obviously if its a great game its not something one would have to ask..

  • GrömGröm Member Posts: 303

Errr... I do understand your frustration if I may express myself this way but just don't stress out, and I know I'm always saying that.

No, I'm not on weed or anything - just watching "The Godfather" series in a row - and that may be the reason - lol!!

Anyway the game will be out when it will be out, I was feeling like that a few months ago and I'm fine now... I came back early November only to find out the game was due to be out CY Q2 2008 so... Back then when I was actually abroad and didn't have any news for 8 months about it I was just like:

"Hell yeah baby! Coming back home, the game is out and here... we... are... err... not going... to play... oh alright... the game isn't out... ah ok... well... alright... now I'm frustrated..."

So yes, I think do understand how some of you might feel, even if everyone's feeling are diferent, just be a little bit more patient, we've been waiting for so long now I can almost feel it.

    Cheers!

As a customer, time is important, and so it quality. It's not either or, and more time doesn't always mean more quality. You can spend 10 years making a steaming pile of dog poo and that doesn't make it any better, because it took so long to make.

Some people need to just do a little research.

Virtually EVERYmajor title has been released at 1 of 2 times of the year: Either just as school is getting out, or before Xmas.

If a game is a major title and doesnt make its release date of sept-nov, you can bet it will be rescheduled for end of schoolyear.

Its really not all that complicated and wether you want to call is Q1,Q2 or Q4 it doesnt change this fact

I hate to use this but: World of Warcraft Burning Crusade. Came out at the end of Jan and broke records. SSBB just came out and it is neither the end of the school year or X-mas. There are plenty of games that are released when they are released. Sure marketing has its favorite picks for best time to release but if the game has a fanbase then it will release when it wants. 600k isn't a bad fanbase so I am pretty sure they can pick a release date they want and be successful.

As for Pre-order details and CE. Oh heaven forbid you don't have that info months and months ahead of time! Really that information doesn't have to be released until a month or less ahead of time. CE doesn't have to have its contents announced until it is on the shelves or they put it on pre-order which me thinks they wont.

As for the June date? Well I believe they are really trying to iron out the bugs and get the game out the door. Basically WAR is at the yellow light stage. Can it make it through the light, will it blow the red light and take a possible financial loss, or stop and take its time and not take any chances. Its to close to call at this point so they aren't getting your hopes up. If WAR is going to make Q2 release then in May you will see a major push for information. If you don't see that push then you know its delayed.

    Shall we do this properly?

    Apr 26, 2007

"We have made the decision to move our ship date for the US and Europe to the first quarter of 2008. (Release dates for Asia will be announced at a later date.) "

"So the team has gone back to our initial pairing and conducted an intense review of their work. They have implemented new ideas and applied all that they have learned over the past nine months. What has already emerged from this dedicated time of focused polish is nothing short of spectacular. In the Dwarf and Greenskin zones there is now more war, more Warhammer, and more of what makes WAR great. "  <ROFL

So we have a starter area issue.

    Nov 1, 2007

    http://www.gamespot.com/news/6182177.html

GameSpot: So, Mark. You have an announcement you'd like to discuss.

Mark Jacobs: As announced in my State of the Game address, and also by [EA CEO] John Riccitiello in our earnings call, we are pushing back the release of Warhammer until the first half of EA's 2008 fiscal year, which runs from April to September.

Warhammer Online's long trek to launch. It was first unveiled in 2000 by developer Climax and Microsoft, only to be briefly canceled four years later. Then, after Climax developed the game solo for a few months, independent developer Mythic Entertainment picked up the license in 2005. In 2006, Electronic Arts bought Mythic and renamed it EA Mythic.

Which brings us up to date with the OP's post.

So lots of little bad communication there wouldn't you think.

The longer they leave it now in announcing it won't release till say Q3 / Q4 calendar year this year the worse it will be for the fans. Personally getting fed up with the BS surrounding the game // lame excuses // saying beta server shutdown was unrelated to adding in additional siege content which they said was specifically unrelated etc etc. Not to mention all the rumours about lack of content which would directly tie in with the limited developement time for a AAA title...

One last thing, they can't even be clear about the rating?? DO they even talk to EA? If it releases as Mature thats one more thing Jacobs has lied about and one less customer they will get.

Why are everyone so overexited about the realease date? C'mon, you will notice when they set an date for it, weeks before.. so calm down.. The game will come, but just not yet. :( Im also looking forward to it, but all great games need time and planning..

It's as if you have never followed the development of an MMO ever before. There are delays. There are features that get added or dropped. Dates change. Information is not always set in stone.

The only two constants are: things change, and people will act like drama queens when changes happen.

Their product isn't final so they can't get a final rating.

If the game needs more time in development, then so be it. It's better to release a solid, well tuned game at release than a buggy, crappy game just to make your projected release date that was set 6+ months ago.

About the last part, so you aren't going to play if it's rated mature? Or are you saying that they won't sell as many units if the game gets the mature rating?

I agree that if they want to maximize sales it needs to have a teen rating, but either way is fine for me since I'm not a minor. If it gets release as mature and you're under 18, get your mommy to buy it for you.

The Collector's edition has been available for pre-order on gameplay.co.uk for about a month now. I think it has been available for pre-order in the US since mid 07 though.

And what exactly is in the Collectors edition then? Think I would like some information before spending +£20-£50 extra on a product. I think that was what Elven was referring to.

Anyway, considering they are 3 months away from release (if, as he says everything goes as planned), they haven't even released details on the last class. That is very discouraging.

I doubt they would be able to do all that in 3 months. On top of that, I for one would like to see an open beta too, but guess there won't be time for one. Would much rather have the game delayed and polished up witht he help of the community than playing an unfinished product at release (I know I know, MMOs are never finished).

You make me laugh. I am a mommy little boy. Actually I only got interested in this game because my 10 yr old son came home with news from the playground a while back. So I started following the game (as a casual mmorpg'r myself). I'll bet i've played or followed more games than you have sonny. I'm well versed in development time..

What I'm trying to point out is they Mythic have lied and also come close to even more lies. But its ok, people like you are all glossed over with P. Barnett hype to even notice.

The only thing that concerns me is.

    1. The game releases as Teen (so I can let my son play)

    2. Its released in good quality.

    3. The nazi approach to negative comments from testers is mightly disturbing, especially in case of lack of content.

Mark Jacobs has specifically pointed out a timeframe for release for over a year now. Thats official.

What will be even more official soon is the announcement for a Q4 calendar year release for 2008, when that announcement comes please don't cry.

The retardedness of the statement I highlighted in red alone pretty much confirms my thoughts on why poster's shouldn't listen to half the things you say.

Any and every MMO game out there will have a nazi approach to NDA breaching.    If they want to post negative comments they should hold their comments until the NDA is lifted.  NDA's are always lifted within more than enough time for testers to have their say and for followers of the game to either pre order or cancel pre orders.

Any one who listens to someone violating an NDA needs to have their head checked.  Alot of the ones who go out of their way to violate NDA either have little idea what it means to Beta test, have never tested before, or have unrealistic expectations.  Or in the worse case scenario think they're gods of the gaming world and should be listened too in order to 'save' the game.

www.GamePlay.co.uk has had mmorpg's CE on there site many months before release all at the same price for lots of past games. They also get the price right too.

    $80 for C.E is almost certain http://shop.gameplay.co.uk/webstore/productpage.asp?productcode=RM03398&title=warhammer_online_-_age_of_reckoning_-_collectors_edition

I don't give a damn what the UK has there's nothing OFFICIAL from Mythic on the Collector's Edition.

Its all speculation that started a firestorm sometime back only for the Dev's to have to come out and say "its all speculation until we say so"

Im talking in an about people in official capacities on official boards cutting down people with vaild constructive crititism. Nothing to do with an NDA sorry ma dear. Oh and im not talking about anything I have wrote here or there either =)

You want to keep wearing your rose tinted glasses thats fine, some of us have the capacity to look past to the real world.

I'd love to post some nice links but I can't sorry!

In all due respect, I have heard negative things about both AoC and Warhammer. So if all that I have heard is true, we as a whole are screwed and there will not be a fun MMO coming out this year. Fortunately, I do not believe everything thats said and will jump all over the open beta to see for myself.

I think both AoC and Warhammer will have their merits and as the games progress only time will tell which one can hold my attention.
