So not really knowing how dependant players were on the decon of named mob drops i found it rather odd all the complaints that named mobs dropped BOP items and BOP items could no longer be deconstructed. This being said i think honestly this was in the long run a good choice for the developers to have taken... bear with me but lets think about this.
Hardly any decent low level items are on the Auction for prices that new players can purchase. Most sell for 2-5 gold and thats level 5-10 weapons/armor. Obviously there has been a huge inflation to the game and that has been cornered by the whole rarity of decon items/dusts. Now from what i read there seems to be a larger chance to get those from harvesting and from normal non named mobs. With a larger amount of these items avail the prices should start dropping if crafters want to sell there items. I could be totally off base here but this is how i see it.
Character customization basically was removed from the game in fact it has less then alot of F2P games. This is also suppossedly implemented with a plan in mind to revamp the character models to make them less tazxng on systems and allow for tails and the new helmets to be added. While i find this a lazy excuse and i think this could have been implemented in a more pleasing way to the public, if the end result is better looking models with better performance, i am willing to let my toon look generic for awhile. Who knows with Tails i might want to play my Raki Disc.
The whole getting knocked off your mount while casting beneficial buffs is as was stated several times, a bug not intended. For some reason alot of players have a hard time reading things, heres hoping some get there eyes checked. As for getting bumped off when attacked, well until there is real mounted combat i think it should be expected, plus how many have the stability horseshoes ? I know all i have are the speed increase horseshoes.
I feel GU4 was a good update and i know alot of the players see it as ruin for how they made a ingame living. I am sure these players will adapt to the new changes and might even find it easier now.
Anyhow flame me all you want, i am here to enjoy the game with friends and i will play the games i want to even if its just me and 5 others.

well put, i actually agree with you GU4 suprised me at how much fun VG is again, a lot more named a lot more challenging, shows maybe SoE really is trying XD
But i still can see why alot of the Vets who have stuck with this game through thick and thin would be angry about things that were removed or changed in GU4.
I think GU4 is great. Especially with the enormous amount of bug fixes and performance tweaks. The've fixed crashing when alt-tabbing out for example... that is the very last crash bug I had.
BoP is necessary, I liked working the market, moving items and stuff, but the deconstruction thing had gotten out of control and was taking away content from lower level players.
Dismount when casting needs to be fixed. Hopefully a hot fix in a day or two as other patch bugs get discovered.
Face customization was a necessary step too. The long and short of it is, you could make countless adjustments to your face and up close you could see the differences, but as 5 meters it was hard to notice the difference. All that customization cost a lot of performance. Going forward, the plan to re-introduce different customization options that make a bigger difference on looks, but that don't require so much processing power is a good idea.
All in all, seems like a great patch to me.
Is the drop rate of crafting items while harvesting a bug? I was out skilling up a bit and in an hour got enough dust/powder to armorsmith up several full sets of tin/iron armor of varying styles. 5 of the items I got in that hour used to be rare selling for over 20 gold.
I think it is a bug, but hmm.. not gonna complain right now.. i think the decons have had the market cornered for long enough, would be nice to not feel like a poor S.O.B all the time.
If it stays this way then fine with me, we can finally start getting common well made crafted items that do not cost as much as a house.
OK how is GU4 going to be any better? I was under the impression that GU3 was the update that people wanted. This game seems to still be beta and yet you pay for it.
GU4 is decent, but it sucked the fun out of my Lich necro for now.
Half the reason I chose Lich was because I wanted to look like a badass Skeleton, but now when I'm in my bone form, I can't use hats (no biggie, they are ugly anyways) nor can I wear a hood (this is bad).
I looked way more sinister when I had my hood on with my Lich necro, and I didn't notice it back then, but now I've just noticed that the skull head is tiny compared to the body so that it looks comical. So much for being an intimidating Necromancer, bah.
Paying for the beta is standard and has been for years. All games put out patches with radical changes that are broken including WoW. For that matter Microsoft puts out entire operating systems as beta.

Why in the hell do you care what game i am playing ?Are you my long lost brother i didnt know i had ? Seriously does it sadden you that i am playing a game other then Eq2 ? I just do not give 3 shits what game your playing, why does it matter what game i am playing ?
If i want to play a game YOU consider a beta then thats my perogative, i am not on the EQ2 boards complaning about the crappy RAM bug after 3 years of release. WOW your game sucks it does not support more then 2 gigs of ram .... why ya playing a beta ? Blah Blah Blah who cares? i do not.
Anyone who thinks GU4 was overall a bad patch has mental capacity issues. They added tons of great features to make VG much more accessable to more player types, not just the so-called 'hardcore' play style. I realize that the original 'vision' of Sigil is gone, but who really cares. Their ship sank for a very good reason.
The direction dev's are taking the updates makes the game much more casual friendly and for that I appreciate what they're doing. I'm truly beginning to enjoy VG much more than all the other MMO's I've played. (Except UO, but that ship was sunk by EA years ago)
Couple of rebuttals to OP:
-Auction house prices were not too high. I never once bought gold, my characters (were routinely dressed in level appropriate armor (or even higher after first toon got to about level 14 and had made some money: on the auction house selling named MOB drops!!!).
The loss of character customization is unexcusable. If graphics ARE going to be reworked -- do it first. Why should WE suffer to gain something I'll likely have turned off anyways -- helms. I could care less about helms if the faces that show through all look alike. It defines SOE -- if it makes the devs life one iotta easier -- F___ the customer. I'm through with that.
Enjoy.
I seriuosly doubt that you thougth there would be no more GU after GU3.
In that rethorics it seem that EQ2 has a very very long beta time, what is it now GU43 for EQ2? So why pay to beta test EQ2?
I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.
"You have the right not to be killed"
So far I experienced more stuttering after GU4 than before, so I'm not seeing a performance boost there. And I'm still very concerned over the lost of facial customization becoming permanent, or at least the return in GU5-6 would be no where near the state it was in previously, that essential, the faces my characters have would be gone forever.
Warriors are mad as heck about Knight buffs in GU4. As for EQ2..
Strange why is EQ2 in the discussion? Blizzard took the EQ concept, shrink it down and feed you in bit size. That's how you like it obviously. I tried WoW and it bored the hell out of me, so I quit.

Using the "MMO's are not a finished product" line only leads to a flawed arguement becuase you are generalizing its use, you need to look at the uniqueness of individual cases.
The completeness of Vanguard (completeness refering to bugs or missing content that hinders gameplay) during the first year of retail was considerably worse, then the completeness of WoW.
Comparing them is like comparing, a car crash to a train wreck.

I would just like to point out that this was fixed with last nights restarts and is working correctly now. Yay, my blood mage can mount up cast buffs then go invis while mounted once again.

Haven't you heard? SoE doing that to games makes people latch on to irrational hatred of soe for the next 10 years. Most of my hardcore brethren just don't get that its just how it is, the market demands braindead console-like borefests, the devs make them. Lets forget the fact that all other mmos out there are right in the same boat, be it soe run or not. Oh no, they have to about it, instead of realizing that thats just the way it is and thats all there is to it.
Gu4 seems alright to me, although it doesn't fix a problem I have with popup windows going corrupt after a while of play which drags the rest of the graphical system down into the pits of unplayability hell with some kind of memory leak or something.. and I dont like that they renamed the harvest nodes to be less specific (metal node instead of tin/copper/etc)

lol well sad...why come in and waste your breath...lol...it amazes me that people come in and say pointless stuff about games they have little fits about....if ya don't like a game don't come into the games forums and spats crap...lol its embarassing to you....i would never...its called respect!

This is SO SOE! Promises, promises, promises. All the wondeful things that MAY BE one day if you wait and pay. Bah. No longer will I PAY SOE on PROMISES what maybe may be someday. Pft.

lol, i reckon thats about 10 times you've quit VG in a huff! why do you keep coming back?
Just a few tips to understanding....
- testing a patched game does not mean testing a beta
- a game with bugs is not necessarily a game in beta stage
- a game in beta stage is not bound to stay so for years and years (this is for the 1 year old retarded "this game is beta" comment...), because it's likely to evolve (contrarily to many forum posters ideas)
I like my new helmet
