Is it worth it?

Is Shadowbane worth playing? Im looking for a new game thats able to keep my interest. So far Ive played all the korean mmos (FlyFF, Cabal) and Im not too thrilled with them. Too much alike and ALL grind. The only games that have been able to keep my attention for a decent time are WoW (never again X.x) and FFXI (I still play it, its completely awesome, but want sumtin new for now).

I dont like TONS of grinding, and complete solo play also makes me really really bored. Im just wondering:

1. Leveling Speed? Slow, fast, easy or hard.

2. Party Play? How often, how much content is party based?

3. PvP? Is it good? All endgame or is there plenty of lower level PvP going on?

4. Class System. Are all characters the same? Or is everyone really different, depending on skills/stats/??.

If anyone could answer these questions, that would help me alot. Hopeing to be able to try this game, but not sure if I should yet. Thanks.

Shadowbane leveling is quite quick, and very easy. The test server has a population not much less (last I knew) than the regular play servers, and has a MUCH increased rate of monetary and experience gain.

Party play is the quickest way to level, by far. You ask how much content in party based... but well, shadowbane doesn't REALLY have PvE, so the question isn't one I can really answer. Shadowbane's PvE consists of regions of the map that have NPCs in them that are used to level up, and nothing else, really.

Shadowbane PvP is excellent. I havent played SB seriously in a long time, but it was made for PvP. Destruction of player-made cities via sieges or sometimes just little hit and run activity, looting of players inventories when you kill them, good stuff. There's limited PvP below the top levels of the game, but since you can hit the top levels in probably less than 20 hours of grinding, who cares?

The class mechanics are also quite nice in my opinion. There are quite a few classes, 20+ I believe. Each class gets sets of skills (such as level of proficiency with different weapons, armors, etc) and abilities (the actual use abilities that you use to fight - firebal, backstab, etc). You earn training points as you level up and spend the points how you wish amongst any of your class skills and abilities.

    1. slow alone, especially as a rogue or fighter, but very fast in powerlevelling groups or as a flying aoe character. you can hit 75 in a few days this way.

    2. see above.also at 65+ you need to group as the mobs here are very tough. pvp banes, mine fights etc are all group based, and small scale world pvp is better when grouped with allies.

    3. yes its great, baning a city is amazing, but it can get very laggy. small scale fights are also good due to all the different class and build types and the tactics they bring.

    4. all classes are based on skill points,so you can choose what to train up and what not to. theres also disciplnes which are like other job types with new skills, you can have 4 of these. the class builds are very diverse, and you can often have 2 members of the same class who perform completely different.

you also have a stat points system and runes which boost your stats even further. the game isnt gear based as such,so you have a large choice in what you want to wear and how they effect your defense, attack rating, stats, resists etc.

Thanks for the replies guys. From what Ive seen as Ive been looking around, and from what you guys said, it looks like a very interesting game. Guess Ill just make a character on the Test server and play around with it for awhile before I decide what I want to make on normal server.

leveling is fast, but the skills/powers are basically the same with different names, almost  all buff/debuff . fighters and stealth type char's are pretty strong, caster types are pretty much worthless. the only real interesting class was vampire. Didn't like the skill/discipline system was far to limiting for most race/professions. so not really alot of choices since alot of builds are gimp. Solo pvp was usually first to hit wins which makes stealth overpowered in my opinion. seems to be mostly group oriented not much solo pvp, unless you want to make a stealth/tracking type and farm farmers.might be worth trying to see if you like since there is supposed to be a server wipe.

If you have logged on recently, you may have experienced a lack of players, this is due to a server wipe that was announced a while back, and has just been set for the 25th of March.

This game is a lot more fun with a guild then solo play. Should try join a guild before you start to play.
