Oh look, a vote between WoW and another game on MMORPG.com - also known as 'MMORPG-except-WoW-because-we-don't-like-it-dot-com'. Forward-slash-play-eve-online. I wonder which one is going to win...

LoTRO has many redeeming qualities, WoW is cartoony, polished and shiny with 4 years of updates and experience. Gameplay-wise, LoTRO is better.
-------------------------------------- A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"
lotro is suprisingly fun.. the story driven quests make questing much more fun than WoW in my opinion... and the graphics are much less kiddy... im enjoying it now
I don't think you can say one is 'better' than the other, because they're very different and both are fun, but I WILL say that I voted for LOTRO because WOW is 4+ years old now and on the decline, where LOTRO is not only new and still on the rise, but after today's big announcement will be in all the headlines once again...
Both are solid MMORPGs. WoW is overwall a better game. Its PvP (even with all its flaws) is better than LOTROs. Story wise and immersion , LOTRO is better than WoW. PVE gameplay, I say they are of the same quality. Population-wise its WoW >> all others (no surprise)
Well I haven't played lotro. spent many hours downloadings the massive client for trial, which didn't work because of some error. but still I know it can;t be worse than wow.

I really don't understand how people can argue Lotro is different from WoW. If there was one word to describe Lotro, it would be "Safe". Nearly everything in it has been done before.
Combat pace is exactly the same, you return to your skill trainer to get new skills every few levels, you're always doing quests, you go into an instance every now and then, blablabla we have all been here before.
Playing:World of Warcraft. Played:Lord of the Rings Online, Starwars Galaxies. Tried:Starwars the Old Republic, Everquest 2, Guild Wars, Vanguard, Age of Conan, Aion.

Have to laugh, 3 people said the two games are way too different to compare, while my thoughts are they are way too similar to differentiate between.
Both are quest based, PVE centric games that have a strong lore associated with them. Their end games are strongly focused on PVE raiding, their expansions involve adding new levels, classes and items (well, all games involve new items), they have their own unique, no risk, no reward PVP flavors, and in both games the players actions have very little impact on the game world. Both games will release expansions this year that will add 10 levels to the characters, new lands to explore, and other cool new features.
I think it really comes down to the little things that make the difference. PVP is better (ok,maybe just different) in WOW due to opposing playable races, crafting is better in LotRO, as are the social aspects. LotRO has housing, WOW has flying mounts.LotRO has Tolken's lore, (and limitations), while Blizzards Warcraft lore has a long history and is easily changed.

There's no way to answer that. Both are great games that cater to different tastes. Which one is better depends on what you're looking for in an MMO.

im to lazy too use grammar or punctuation good
i agree, i dont see how you can ask a question like that... they're too differant from each other.
But Lotro is also a good game, and in the area it concentrates to (questing and stories) it's better than WoW.
But since this is mmorpg.com, the poll result won't be neutral, there are too many WoW haters in here.
I voted WoW because WoW had me til level 30. LOTR had me til level 3.
Blessings,
MMO migrant.

Yeah, way too different. That's the same as asking "Which is better, PAC-MAN or Super Mario..."

Remember Old School Ultima Online
I think i will give a try for LOTRO.
Thank you all for advices
id rather choose LOTRO. i want some different style of gaming+
WoW is a better game because it has 3 letters acronym compared to LOTRO with its 5 letter acronym madness.
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

Torrential: DAOC (Pendragon)
Awned: World of Warcraft (Lothar)
Torren: Warhammer Online (Praag)
Even if you don't like WoW, don't lie about it, WoW is not on the decline.
On the contrary according to Warcraftrealms.com player activity charts and Blizzard's press release on 22.01.08 WoW is still gaining more players than it's losing.
EDIT: Also, WoW was relesed 23.11.2004, so it's now 3 years old. Not 4+ years old /EDIT

Lotro is WoW with about half the content.
May be but its still better!

In my opinion, they both cater to the same taste.
Which one is better depends on whether you are bored of WoW yet or not.
If you have finished WoW, Lord of the Rings is worth a try. If you haven't finished WoW, it's not worth looking at.
