i tried EVE back when it first started out and simply hated it. not b/c of actual playing, but more from lost as all get outs. i had no clue what was going on.

NOW, i reloaded the game b/c it was receiving fair to good reviews here and i felt i would give it a try. and truthfully, i was bored of the fantasy based mmo's< and i have played just about all of them, lol>. when i first started, i still struggled with the learning curve, but i fought thru it and most surprising of all, every time i was lost and asked a question, 10 people would help me out. had never received the such positive responses too my questions in any other game.i am not saying no one ever helped in other games, i just felt i could not ask a dumb question in the EVE universe and NO ONE made any goofy remarks about me being a "nOOB" or some such. A+++++ on my impression of the community so far. i am still very early in my gaming so i cannot give a fair review of EVE atm, BUT i can say how great every one has been and how fun the game is if you allow yourself time too get thru the learning curve.

At this moment I am very glad i reloaded EVE. i cannot wait until i can handle PvP battles and such. BUT, if you are thinking of giving EVE a go, do not expect EQ, DAoC, AO, etc... EVE may be an mmo, but it is nothing like the fantasy based mmo's out there IMHO.

all in all, i am VERY excited about EVE. just ask my wife.lol. have been on the pc non stop for my 2 off days.lol. oh well, i guess mowing can wait until tomorrow.......or the next day......

Just give EVE a fair shake if you are thinking about trying it is all i ask

and when the next expanstion (shiva) comes out, it should get better.

I started in Beta with Eve...stopped when it when live. Came back on their 14 day trial and like the direction it's going.

still not sure if I want to sign up now or wait till after shiva goes live

your arguement is so persuasive, so filled with knowledge and insight. You back up your argument very articulately, with suggestions of improvements and raising examples to glorify your position....oh wait, you didn't

Well glad to hear that you had a better experience this time. Sounds like you kept an open mind about it and took the steps to get past the rough parts. So many people do not and just give up instead of taking the time to ask questions. There is many in game sources for most problems if people would just look for them.

I think one of the major issues with people trying out EVE-Online is that they think it's going to be just like any of the other MMOs out there. EVE is incredibly reliant on it's community and it has established a very good one for that reason, less immature, nerdy, irritating, stupid gamers and more civilized, mature, fun gamers. Since EVE is a simulation and is very realistic in regards to how pretty much everything is community driven, it drives most immature brats away from the game, since they can't "win" simply by tricking an NPC and everything isn't about power-leveling.

I'm glad you noticed what you noticed about EVE and it's community, far too few notice it early on.

Just one warning to you: the community overall is very good, mature, etc. However, don't let this get you carried away: I remember back right after launch, a while after I had joined, when 350k was a reasonable price for a Merlin class frigate, I was getting my hopes up so much about the community and was surprised with how trustworthy everyone seemed and started taking for granted that everyone was that way. Some guy offered to sell me a Merlin at 300k if I sent him 200k in advance and then he'd take the rest upon delivery. Guess what; he never came =) Admitedly this was stupid off my part, but it's not the type of thing I'd usually do, just something I did because I got too excited about the community too fast. By now I've got plenty of cash and have had a fair share of battleships so that old incident means nothing, but I remember at the time it was most of the money I had and I was fairly disturbed.

Good luck in space, safe sailing!

I totally agree with all the above comments regarding the Player Community in EVE.

Since I started playing the game 3 months ago, I have found my fellow players to be very friendly and extremeily helpful. There hasnt been a single time I have been the but of a joke for being a noob, unlike other games I have tried  (I wasnt going to name it, but what the hell...... Everquest)

I realise that EVE comes in for a lot of critisism due to it's skill advancement system and the amount of PvP combat, but I feel this is a minor point. Personnally I do not consider PvP combat to be that major a draw in a game like this, I prefer the long term co-oporation that I find from other EVE players. If I want continuous PvP. I will go play counter stike.
