2 patches given to the broken and leaving pirates now

none to fix end game for privateers

none that are going to give us REAL OS PvP

Still no news on the population issue (discounting one vague post in a locked thread).

    Let me get this straight:

They take five years to develop a game called PIRATES of the Burning Sea....

and then, 1 month after full release, the head of the company announces that the PIRATE faction is not designed as it should, and needs to be redone.....

    Terrible.

It needs to be redone twice since 1.3 is meant to be the big pirate rework patch.

    That sounds soooo coooool!

    Ugh... but wait... what's this?:

    http://www.burningsea.com/forums/showpost.php?p=208303&postcount=10

"I do have a question as a national though. When the town changes over what happens to all the national players that might be hanging out there? Will I be walking down the street and suddenly it becomes dark and all these new objects and NPCs just suddenly appear? I am concerned about the transition between the different states."

    And the Dev answer:

    http://www.burningsea.com/forums/showpost.php?p=208384&postcount=12

"That came up. There's no really good answer here, you'll see a loading screen when the Pirates take over, and you'll be back at the dock and suddenly the town is in pillage mode."

Now, for 10 points, is there an MMO gamer here who can spot an obvious problem with this sort of transition in an MMO?

AND, for 20 bonus points, can anyone give a probable title of the related "Whine thread" on the FLS forums the first time this happens?

Nothing says irony like spelling ideot wrong.

Still no rape quests? What do these pirates do when their at sea for so long, finally plunder a port, and aren't interested in sex?

Not that there's anything wrong with that.....

    1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.789...

The new official mantra for POTBS is "long term development" and implementation of "milestones". In essence they will patch the game with things that should be there at the release, this will be done some time in the future and might or might not work.

Another new dogma is that MMO market offers options and people leave MMO's and return to them later. It might be so for EVE, WoW etc. but it is highly unlikely for POTBS with its 6 & 1/4 players.

However I am inclined to think  that is the reasoning given to investors/interested parties/busienss partners - Q: "Why is the number of players so low if the game is a success?" A: "It is MMO market, they will all come back at a later date."

    Fixed.

I don't know what you're specifically looking for, but, the first thing I thought when I read that response was:  What happens when I'm on a mission, and my contact in that town disappears for an unknown amount of time?

I'm also curious about the PvP aspects about such a change.  When the town changes over to Pirate, will it automatically be PvP between the nationals who got caught there and the Pirates who are floating around?

Eh....I can't even spend much time thinking about how they implement it.  I'm too amazed at the fact that they spent from Oct. of 06 until Oct. of 07 putting in avatar combat that was "unfun" in beta, and is now the weakspot of the game, while the whole time, they knew the pirate faction of PIRATES of the Burning Sea was FUNDAMENTALLY flawed.

Talk about poor priority management.  I said it before...these guys stopped sticking to their strengths, and they're paying for it now.

You sorta think they would get "pirate's" done first and foremost correctly in a game titled "Pirates of the Burning Sea" ,

But of course kool-aid has that nice +10 to blind faith effect on many -

PotBS is at least turning out to be amusing for forum drama as it every time one of the former fanbois on the forums snaps into reality and posts something about thinking the game isn't as great as he originally thought , his former forum kooi-aid companions tear him apart - it's becoming common enough

Sadly the amateur nature of the devs and their experience is coming out more daily - they'd had better luck giving the game away for free and charging 9.99 a month - they definitely did not put out a 49.99 + 15 bucks a month product

    ....

10 POINTS to the MMORPG gamer in the front row!

And in the case of the French (and probably the other nations as well?) both of the ports critical in newbie economy missions can be captured.

Imagine the confusion for newbies when they find that their "contact" no longer exists?

Read the chain, he was referring to NPC's missing if the pirate plunder is implemented. The devs were asked how that would be addressed and had no answer.

hate to say it but most of you have no clue what you are talking about.

the game definetly has its flaws however it is not totally flawed.  I enjoy a large portion of the game and hate a few aspects of it.

The MAIN problem of the game is harsh PvP penalties, besides that the game is pretty good.

Excellent, glad you enjoy it. And I agree, it is flawed but not totally but we probably differ in gauging what amount of flaw is acceptable. Try it for a few months and cap a character or two.

    LOL! I completely agree.

Truth is... They made a pirate game, where playing a pirate is absolutely NO different than playing a nation character. Every nation plays exactly the same. The ships, quests, towns, trade goods... Well, everything is identical. They basically made 4 nations and said... "Choose a Side"... at character creation. There's nothing to distinguish one nation from another.

It's as vanilla as a game could be.
