As I read up on this game, I find that it has a cash shop. This is not good to people like I, who like a nice, free MMO to play in their spare time.
I am just wondering - is this the kind of games that sucks up all of the cash you have? Do you need to have to use the cash shop, and if you don't you will fall behind other players who use their $$ to succeed.

This game is a lot like Second Life, in that you buy currency and you can later change that currency back into real money. There are plenty of people who have invested in this game and come out with more money than they put in... one guy even paid his way through college.
However, when you start out they give you pretty much nothing. You are expected to pay something like $20+ just to get basic starter equipment. AFAIK, there is no way to play this game for free.
As I have said elsewhere, when you are in mid-lvl skills in your main professions, with careful planning and selection of equipment it is possible to play for free indefinitely.
But it will take time before you are there, and when you are just starting, there is zero chance to cope without some deposits.
you can play this game for free. There is one very popular way to gain in game currency and get a ton of great skills, however it is a longer process than paying real money and starting out with a weapon and some armor.
SWEATING animals is free-in a few hours you can make 5-7 PED (in game cash). The low end armor is often offered in exchange for sweat-as are some of the starter guns.
This is a game that takes time. All of the people that say you have to put money in are generally the same people that expect to be the "uber l33t" in a week.
The more you play, the better your skills get, the easier it is to do anything and everything in this game.
Is depositing $20US a good idea? Sure-it helps out a great deal in the early part of the game so you get an easier transition into some of the more advanced parts of the game. But in about 10 days of sweating, (and learning what the hell is going on in the game), you can make that $20 US in sweat. So, if you are an impatient player that needs everything right now or you need some quest giver to hold your hand and tell you where you need to go and what you need to do, then this game is not for you.
Remember that the client is free and at no time do they ask you for any money-ever. My suggestion to you is to try the game, give it a few days, not a few minutes, and ask questions in game. There are always a great many people that will help answer you questions, give advice or let you tag along to get some experience and learn the game.
I'd play this game a lot more if it didn't download about 100 -200 mb an hour...
