Wow sober for 10 days, (lots of n00b questions)

remontoireremontoire Member Posts: 16

So I've been sober from WoW for 10 days now. This is my second attempt. Last summer I managed to quit for only two weeks. Even deleted my character and everything out of sheer frustration at the state of the game. Anway, I crawled back but have since learned how to successfuly quit. That being said I absolutely love EVE!! I've always been a fan of Privateer and this game brings back lots of old memories. I've been playing EVE for a little over 2 weeks now and I have a lot of n00b questions. Hopefully you guys can help me out.

- I want to be a trader, how big of a target am I flying around in a Iteron. Am I destined to get ganked? Is it a waste of time to attempt to trade without security? Will I be safe in .8+ space?

-Whats a good region to start trading in? I'm currently in Essence.

-Are there any capital like bases/stations for each empire (like Stormwind, Ironforge for example)

-Is there a point where I will hit a brick wall in the game? (like lvl 70 cap in WoW)

-How many Titans currently exist?

-Are there any unique or special places to dock at?

der... this list is short. I will add to it when I remember the rest.

    1.  Iterons are big, slow ships so you are a big target if you are in low sec or 0.0 space (0.4-0.0) but if you are in 0.5+ you are fine as long as you dont put billions worth of items in your Iteron.  If you are hauling billions then get some Giant Secure Containers and use those; less people will be willing to attack you in high sec.

    2. It all depends.  I'd suggest flying to the surrounding regions and check the markets there.

    3. No not really.  There is Jita which is the biggest trade hub in Eve but I'd highly recommend not going there.  If trading is your thing then do it in places like Rens, Orvolle and the other minor trade hubs.

    4. No.  To train everything up to level 5 will take somewhere around 25 years.

    5. Not sure on this but I'd say around 10-15.

    6. No but there are some unique places to visit like the wreck of the first downed Titan.

HAHA. That may be true, however I think I went from crack to caffeine. I can deal with that.

I mainly use the Exequror as my trader toon main ship, it has four highslots and A bonus to cargo cap. Not to mention at a little over 2 mill per ship you have a very cheap hauler that can defend itself nicely, I was gateganked once and it took the six ships two minutes to pod me, and thats only because I had the ship setup for mining not combat.

I also have a badger2 as my main hauling ship, with a couple of cargo extender1's it has a caro cap of 8k. Also a very cheap ship.

as for safety in systems of .8+ you should be fine without security, but that does not mean you are completely safe, not even in 1.0 space are you that safe. So always remember the golden rule: never fly what you cant afford to lose.

EVE is full of special places, just look on the EVE map, there are a bunch of locations onit that are for the most part tourist locations.

AS for the Titan thing dont even worry about that til you are ready to go into .4 space, even then it's not something to think about, all of them are in 0.0 space and have fleets of over 100 each defending them.

AS for a brick wal lin EVE? the only one is the one that you place there yourself.

Essence is a great reagion to start out in as well as The Forge.

It depends on what you're carrying. If they're able to make a 200mill isk profit out of ganking you, then it's likely to happen. But, most of the people that get caught are afk auto piloting. You'll be fine if you don't use auto pilot and keep an eye out.

If it was me personally, I would go to Rens. It's not as acompetitive as jita and is sometimes lacking some modules. I would tap into that market if I could be bothered. I saw some good opportunitys down there recently.

-Are there any capital like bases/stations for each empire (like Stormwind, Ironforge for example)

Nope not really. You can bring up the map and toggle it so it shows the most active systems with people in it. It doesn't tell the whole story some are on main routes so it shows it as busier than it actually is for trading.

-Is there a point where I will hit a brick wall in the game? (like lvl 70 cap in WoW)

Nope you keep on going and going until you rise above everyone by stepping on their heads, either by market pvp or guns pvp.

    -How many Titans currently exist?

Just under ~30 known. There was a list somewhere recently on the forums. I've heard they cost about 20 bill to build in minerals, obviously excluding bpc/bpos, but they cost a ton more than that to buy. Mainly because the only way you're going to build one is if you own space. The logistics to get the minerals out to your space is a nightmare. That's why it's pretty much an alliance only project. You pretty much need jump bridges to move the freighters out into 0.0. The way that alliances used to get minerals out to 0.0, was by building doomsday devices and jumping them up inside haulers inside carriers. Once they got up to their station they reprocessed the doomsday devices and got the minerals from it. The key part was doomsday devices occupy half the volume of theirbuild material minerals and was further reduced by placing them inside haulers inside carriers. Basically cut down the moving of materials by a third. CCP nerfed it though. So the only feasible way up is by moving minerals by jump bridges or mining the minerals up there.

You mean landmarks? There's the eve gate I guess or whatever it's called. The first downed titan. Its structure's still floating in space. Not sure about other stuff. I don't really care about that.
