never played fury but it sounds alot like guildwars. 4 vs 4 arenas, 8 vs 8 guild battles, can start at max level, skill based instead of grinding levels, unlock skills and equip as you win battles, no monthly fee's.
Can't go wrong with trying it out, go buy nightfall, if you like it, get the other expansions.
yea if ur looking for a solid introduction to MMO than Guildwars would definitely be a good start has alot of the same qualities as FURY only its been a proven game for yrs now and quite literally WOWS only real competition in the market ... 10 mill wow 5 mill GW ...and u dont have to pay to play just buy the game and its free for life. OH and GW does do some senseless nerfs buffs but atleast IZZY knows a bit more bout balance infact he played FURY and told them all the problems theyd have after launch its quite surprising how his instincts held tru.
i personally started in GW two yrs ago other than a traditional now and again break it has kept me coming back and many others give it a try if u want some balanced pvp.

I don't like guildwars at all and I don't really know what it is. I have the game and I've tried 3 or 4 times to get into it.
Its something about the animation and graphics that just bug the hell out of me, the way the characters move, the way the scenery looks and feels with the camera controls, all of that just makes me nauseous. I've heard people talk crap about the fury animation regarding how caracters move, and I'll agree to that to some extent but I just think GW is alot worse. Maybe just basic walking, and walking backwards, looks better in GW but thats it.
The way I feel it the game can't compare at all to Fury, even though the graphics aren't really too bad in GW theres just something annoying about it that makes me have no idea why people like that game, lol.
Maybe its because I haven't PVP'd enough in GW yet, my first character was PVE because I felt I needed to learn the game before PVPing, and the boring PVE play just made me uninstal the game after a day the first few times, I made a maxed out char and tried some PVP and even though the gameplay was okay, it was far from good and that unnatural animation feeling and lack of scenery control just bugs me out.
Lol its weird but theres certain games I really want to like but just can't because something weird in them bugs me out, EVE online is another one, I could write an equally long pointless post abut why EVE is fricken annoying, lol..
Just had to get it off my chest.
but ya, as soon as I first found out it was all instanced (nothin on the box said that!!) that killed alot for me. and the PVE is boring as hell, but not so much the first time through. this is mainly a PVP game. and if you've only tried it a couple times, you haven't unlocked any good builds that can actually help your team. takes some time to get good, realize what skills people use and how to counter that.
I was thinkin of giving Fury a try because I like that style of game where I don't have to waste my whole life getting to max level. Fighting other players is where it's at. I'm just hearing way to many problems with Fury to actually buy it. and they just went down for like 3 days and gave no reason? been playin GW for 2 years and not once have I ever tried to log in, and the servers be down unless it was a scheduled maintenance.
I could be talked into trying Fury, but someone would have to tell me why it's better than GW which is much more polished.
I would say, that there is no game out there like Fury.
It's a pitty that Fury has become so unfunny to play.
Spellborns fightsystem seems to get pretty close to Fury's as you also have no auto-attack. But it seems that spellborns system is even more fun, as you also have to aim at you target and that rotating skillbar also seems to be much fun.

I'm not trying to talk you into trying Fury out or to convince you that one is better than the other but part of the answer to your question is that Guild Wars has been out for 5 years or so (not sure exactly how long) and had time to mature whilst Fury was only officially (albeit prematurely) released less than a year ago and is still going through its growing pains.
Any GW veteran that has been there since release and earlier that says GW didn't go through problems after its release is lying. This is true for most MMO's.
Fury Links & Guides|Don't believe the hype
I'm not entirely sure. It all depends on the size of the patch. It can take anywhere from 6-52 hours. I remember Beta had some long ass patches so. Thats the best answer i can give because Auron likes to keep its customers in the dark about everything.

Yes GW has been out for some yrs i personally have been playing for just over 2 since factions release, however its not that a gw vet will say anything like that bc i know alot that have been playing since beta , however GW did extensive Beta testing and research and had a much easier release, however they have continually patched the game while upgrading it ... and releasing expansions. As a player of gw i have to say this much one thing that sets GW from most is that its a game that a CASUAL player can enjoy or a HARDCORE player can benefit and shine from and w/ gw 2 just on the horizon it goes to show the success. As well as its pvp is balanced and adds to strategy though like any game ppl will run Cookie cutter builds theres over 1000 skills that ppl use that u can put into many combinations ... ill give a perfect example of a simple build that was innovative and never seen before GW ...a 55' nuff said ... and thats a pve build at that, a lvl 20 cap so everyone can be on equal terms sooner than later .. a shorter campaign but a hella endgame ....
Fanboi statement here .... Jeff Strain of ANET is one of the most influential minds in the industry right now ... if u ever want to read a good article google Jeff Strain - HOW TO BUILD A SUCCESSFUL MMO ... i posted tid bits back on the original forum for FURY cos there was alot of points i thought the devs for FURY shoulda took into account bc he was referring to a team like AURAN when he says " he hopes he cant tell u what will be popular or the next wave for MMO's that hopefully someone will come up with something fresh and innovative and set a new standard" Fury being a pvp based game with that rpg aspect was one of those hopeful small companys that coulda broke the mode and still can.
My final thought after re reading these posts are this FURY is or was a creative and innovative game with great potential but has been a major let down not only for the community but devs as well. The Aotc patch did bring alot of the past problems to a halt and bring some new features [ some unliked ] that pretty much reinvented their metagame, however its not all that it should be , i paid 50 on preorder and was playing during beta and after til they screwed us but thats another resolve still waiting , for a F2 p game give FURY a try if u like it u ll keep it if not uninstall and never look back. BUT DOESNT HURT TO TRY .... i once enjoyed FURY and hope to once again.

Don't give up on the genre just because of one game. And Fury is not even a typical game (because it is PvP oriented). If you want to try a free classic MMORPG (medieval fantasy) MY suggestion would be Dungeon Runners. If the idea interests you, try other paid games like World of Warcraft (great game IMO), Star Wars Galaxies (IMO, specially if you like SW), I liked Everquest better than Everquest 2, and if you dig comics, City of Heroes/Villains is great fun (IMO). If you dig FPSs you might want to try Tabula Rasa (science fiction theme) - it's a recent game still going through its "growing pains" but looks great and has an interesting atmosphere.
About Guild Wars, I bought it, tried playing it some 4 times but I feel so lonely in the instanced world... I think the game is beautiful, the controls are great but it just didn't keep me playing. And I also tried its PvP some 4 times but I didn't like it - that's why I'm trying Fury.
