TR's Combat has me Spoiled!

MistickMistick Member Posts: 100

Ok so I'm really enjoying TR still. Got a nice clan, getting into random groups, doing missions, instances, defends, and assaults. The other day however my friend asked me to log into another game of mine to do a raid. I was like sure... I guess I could. Anyway as soon as we started to do the raid I found myself hating the combat system. I was like "OMFG someone shoot me"! The raid lasted three hours, but felt like six the way I just hit the buttons in combat, and waiting to "pull" the next mob.

I thought to myself hmm.... maybe it was that I just  bored with that game. So I tried another MMO of mine, but got the same effect. I even got so despreate I downloaded a trial of another game, and still smashing buttons with the mob just standing around waiting to be killed. I then realized It is going to be hard for me as a player to ever go back to a turn based system (not that I want to leave TR atm anyways).

The point is people can say what they want to about the game, but to date (as far as mmo's are concered) TR has the best AI, and twitch system I have ever played. I'm really hoping for my own sake of playing future online games that some company has taken notes off of TR's AI, because WOH! I thought the combat was good, but didn't really appreciate it untill I compared it to other online games.

Strangely i agree wit you , i dont think it is that the other gameplay styles suck it is just that we have done it for so long that it is just getting plain boring doing the same ol same ol.

Honestly I was so hooked on TR until I realized that there was no aiming involved when you fired your weapon :/.  Such a huge, huge disappointment.  I absolutely LOVED the defends though.. how fun is that stuff?  I really hope my most anticipated game, Darkfall, borrows from those scenarios.

I also enjoy the fast pace of the combat system. Most of the time when I die it is because I am not watching my shield or health but swinging around from one target to the next, serving up the pain.

Could the combat be better? Sure NC could make it better but in its current state I feel that you do get that fast paced feel of  a FPS, it is just more exciting then the static combat of most MMOs.

For me its how quick things are.

From travelling around to collecting x of y.

As a friend said - it really shows how much of your time is deliberately wasted in other MMO's.

TR is still turn based, but they've masked it with clever design. This isn't a bad thing though. You get the feel of an FPS without the server lag. They save money on servers and we are happy with FPS feel.

I was playing TR when it released. Unfortionately this was a time I still had satellite internet and the game was just unreliable to play on such a horrid connection. Random disconnects to outrageous pings ended up making me quit.

I now have Alltel Highspeed Wireless and have good enough pings to play TF2/CS:S/DOD:S. So TR should be a cake walk to play now.

My only concern is, what's the state of the game now? Is the population healthy? Before I found my self soloing a lot, but really that's no big deal.

I just recently canceled both my EQ2 subs, because honestly those type of games are just getting old. After getting better internet it's like a world of games opened infront of my eyes and i'm not FORCED to play games like EQ2 (yes I was FORCED as that type of game is stable on satellite). With that said there's no limit to what I can't play as my system will run every game on the market and now my connection can handle them too. Once I get my antenna my connection will be even stronger.

To get to the point. I too can no longer stand those types of games. I mean some of them are a weeeee bit more involved as in you need to move to certain positions to do an attack, but it's rediculous. Seriously, who stands still stiff as a board swinging a sword? That's just silly. I NEED ACTION! I NEEDS MOVEMENT!

With all that said, I do believe i'm going to re-activate my TR sub and enjoy the game to its fullest with my new highspeed intrawebz.

*Edit* I also considered playing the "Free" HGL again, but with their horrid patching issues and the virus in stonehenge patch. Plus the insane amount of instancing and no huge fun battles, etc.. I uninstalled that garbage. I suggest others do the same if you're considering trying it again. It's as bad of an epic fail as VG was.

When i was on last night there were tonnes of people on not sure how many but the game seems to be pretty healty with people playing atm i also solo alot but that is beacuae i am just starting out and i dont think there is alot of noob group quest i think the think i love most about this game is i catch myself sneaking just in range of mobs and trying to pull 1 at a time so i dont get mobbed the last time i had to do this in an mmo was way back when i played FFXI it gives me a rush when i have a close battle and get my butt whooped makes it all more fun to go back and do it all over again lol. I also loved the town raids from the Mobs me and about 6 other people all in low lvl teens were holding back a wave of Mobs coming to take over an outpost we were doing well but then we just got overun and had to wipe our legs clean as we retreated to safety. This is a fresh change for MMO's and atm i am loving it. Still waiting on AION tho

I agree, the pace of action in other MMOs feels very slow after playing Tabula Rasa.

    Target 1 enemy, click 2, 3, 2 again, 1, finish with 4. Rest. Target new solo enemy, click 2, 3, 2, 1. Rest ....

You think you've been spoiled by TR??  DDO's combat blows any other game's combat outta the water.  I tried TR, and as you've experienced, I was too bored of its combat and any other MMO's combat after playing DDO.  So I suggest to quench your thirst for fast paced combat, try this one out...

P.S.  I am not currently playing DDO so I am not some rabid fanboi, it is legitimately the most unique and fun combat system in the genre...want a MMO refreshment? Try this one out.

Seems the only hope for me to have fun in MMOs after DDO is possibly the combat of TCoS and Darkfall.

When I first started playing MMOs the first thing that disappointed me was the typical MMO combat. I'm really glad Funcom is trying something new.

AoC's combat isn't going too different than what everyone is used to.  The casting is the same system as every other MMO...target, press 4, wait for 2 second casting bar, AND NO MOVING WHILE YOU CAST!  Spellweaving looks like its out the window which was the only unique thing they were considering.  The melee on the other hand is something different via directional attacks, but still it gets boring fast, just another button masher mixed with combos...Like I said before the only innovative, unique, and fast paced combat systems in the future are TCoS and Darkfall

I am also having fun playing But I prefer being able to left click an icon during gameplay instead of having to use key commands , I cant remember how many time I have used the same ability more than i needed to because I forgot to change it back or how many ae mines I have wasted  by putting them in hotkey  & right clicking to use  & then forgetting to go back to my normal ability ,

    Things I like :

    Lots of action

Regen health/ Power fast when out of combat

Some fun quests " Holding back the bane at the wilderness LZ was awsome

NPC's  Lots of soliders running around , adds to the  atmosphere

    Instances are fun

    Clones are a great idea

    Things I dislike :

Can only Play 1 race at start " Stupid stupid stupid"

Not enough abilitys "if I play to 50 & become a spy all up I would have recieved 16 abilitys  in 50 levels & many shared by other classes

Not enough content " 1 starting area , 1 area for teens , 1 for 20's " you get the idea

Interface sucks , the mmo option is nothing like any mmo I have played " you can't keybind to be able to left click to use an ability

Agro range ? Does Perceived Threat even work I have a weapon with 80% & mobs still spot me from massive distances away

just thought I would jump in here , the only thing the "perceived threat" ,mod on a weapon does is if you in a group things are less likely to shoot at you.

They will think you are doing 80% less dmg then what you are really doing. So if somone else is shooting them they will attack who they think is doing the most dmg.

So only in groups ?  I seem to draw plenty of agro when defending the LZ with other players defending as well , maybe there got a 90% one  :)

Well of course defending an LZ is alittle different becuase there are 100's of guys  around chances are some of them is going to shoot at you.

But yes if two people are shooting  the same target  the the target will turn and attack who he thinks is doing the most dmg first.

So when defending an LZ chances are maybe no one else is attacking the target you are, or there is just enough Bane around that some  just happen to see you and desided to shoot at  you.

And the mod only works on that weapon so if you got some AOE  logo skill  then that will still bring alot of aggro
