Anticipation

I thoroughly read the EQ 2 boards. I saw many people stating they were drooling in anticipation or even having butterflies in their stomach awaiting the game.

I saw the same thing on the WoW boards and on all MMORPG boards I visited. I think its an incredible feeling having live it myself for AO ( had fun for about 2 years ), SWG ( had fun for about 8 months ) and now I relive the same feeling for EQ 2.

I never ever had that feeling for a console game or a single player game. My question is, why do MMORPG produce this kind of anticipation ? I mean, its a game like all others. Anyone has a logical answer?

I get all tingly and excited just reading the most recent EQ2 information. I had that feeling about AC2, though not SWG. MMORPGs are just so diverse, and I guess the idea of really experiencing the game rather than just playing it like you might a single player makes it much more exciting. That said, I am pretty tingly about fable for the xbox (1 month to go! image) but that is probably also because it looks like it will be so immersive.

Yeah, you might be right, we are more living in the game than anything else, and you know you are in for the long run.

I'm pretty excited by titles like SD ( being a wrestling fan ) and all FF, but nowhere near what I am for MMORPGs.....

I think that hard core gamers get tired of the norm and when ultima came out then eq people went mad. I was a big D&D player along with magic and warhammer I love the rpg of a mmorpg however eq was the only one I played for 4 years. I have tried them all from ac2, doac, ao, swg,lienage2,coh,knight online, DE, eq, and I have played many more in beta but I am hoping with wow and EQ2 that I will find what has been missing in the mmorpgs lately. Dont get me wrong but they screwed up things in eq when they made things to easy and I started with the hell lvs and they got rid of them I started with no ports only the boats and wizzys and druids could get you from place to place now just run to the pok so I am hoping they dont do this to the new eq2 . Well I told ya what gives me my butterflies so well see you all in the new games I hope we all make beta.

Im not too excited about most of these new MMORPGs coming out, but im starting to get high hopes for D&D online. I used to get tha great feeling when UXO used to be in developement, getting new info and screens every week and being able to talk with the devs, then it all went down hill, and finally EA pulle the plug image ya although i saw it coming but i will be the first to admit i was hyped about it to its last (sort of) living second.

Im waiting on EQ2, but i tihnk D&D will be the future for me.

Yes D&D looks great but so did warhammer on line and they pulled the plug I just hope it's going to make it out and not get pulled.

DeadManInc I know what your saying. I anticipating the release of Guild Wars and WoW and sometimes get a little giddy when I'm looking at screenshots and info. I think it's the excitment of a new game combined with the sharing of that excitment and experience with many other people. Especially when you get a game right at it's release and everyone in the game is new to it as well. We all then can share in the new discoveries together and have a blast. I think that's really what sets MMORPGs apart from single player games so much.
