I used to play swg and was thinking i would give it another shot.But ive got a few questions 1st and was hoping i could get some answers.

1.Do the missions give out better rewards now?Hunting sux so i tend to do a lot of missions in any mmo.

2.Is it still like having a job?(grind)

3.Is the pvp system any better now?

If you mean by loot not really. Loot is still a joke in SWG as most things are decorative for your house or junk. Crafters can always make better weapons or armor that you find. As far as credits go, if you're an elite profession master you can make money no problem by joining a group. Mission payouts are 27k each on dantooine. Nobody is actually grouped, they just group up to pull higher paying missions but do their own thing.

Most definitely, still feels like a boring job.
3.Is the pvp system any better now?
Much much worse and will get even worse later on. Right now PvP and the galactic civil war are basically dead. Jedi can kill any other profession in 1-2 hits so no point in trying there. Only other professions that are decent are TKM, Swordman, and Rifleman. The battlefields have been broken so long I can remember the last time I went to one. The situation will get worse as pub 10 will allow for even more jedi to roam around. Also a long promised combat revamp has been delayed again till next year.

please for god sake dont listen to this guy. he has a problem with SOE and flames any game they publish INCLUDING THE EQ2 PREORDER disc!!!

I play SWG atm and it is fine for me. I usually see TKA dueling Jedis dueling. there are A LOT of good updates comming fast too. Maybe you could get that 14day trial in if it is still there.

A. Don't listen to admriker. He's so one sided no one ever takes anything he says with a grain of salt.

So to the responses to your questions. The first answer....well, it depends on how long ago you had quite. When I cam back I was quite impressed over the items you received during the temepark quests. I always did like the TIE flight suit and the reinforced Storm Trooper chest plate.

Also, the drops have become a little better (depending on where u go). But as far as Quest mega loot...there hasn't been any to my knowledge (except for the now useless holocubes and the crystals)

I personally do not think of it as a grind. I have a very good PA and we do a lot of battles with the Rebels in various areas. Also gaining experience in certain skills have been better as well. Do the Warren Quest. Its pretty neat plus you gain buttloads of xp. BUt if you do artisans...yes their is still a grind.

When I left in Jan. it was quit bad. When I rejoined back in May, I was quite happy. I was actually killing people where I used to only last for 3 seconds.

Wait until Jump to Lightspeed comes out....it'll be very nice

Yeah JTL is gonna be my roleplayers dream expansion. I am going for smuggler (which is on there list to fix [which is faster nowadays]) and I beleave if you buy the expansion you get a free ship... and well you can just call me han solo and i can get my pa friend that is a wookie to go with me lol! ::::16:: It's beautiful(spelling?)

Ok another question.

I know you can go overt or covert as rebel or empire but can i do the same as a Hutt?In other words have the Hutt become an "official"faction?

The hutt faction will not be a Joinable faction yet. The devs loved the idea, and originally wanted to put it in the original game, but had issues with time. They would love to put it in, but they know they have alot to work on still.

Well, we don't know which one is the least populated since they don't put at that type of info (though we know Bria is the largest). The server I mostly play on, Valcyn, is a medium-small server. We have players on most of the time since we have many Austrailian, European, and American players. We have a good amount of PvP, PvE, RP, crafter, and other types of players. We still have an active Civil War. Our community has worked together many times to stop griefers, exploiters, and harassers. If you look, you're sure to find the type of players you want to play with. Or you can play solo, not like anyone will stop you.

Of course, thats probably true for most servers.

Well i reupped for galaxies and to my surprise ALL my original characters are still there!!!

If they keep doing this kind of thing ill be a subscriber for a long time even when i need to take a break.DAOC does this as well but its not my kind of game im a scifi nut anyway.Ive played eve off and on but its just as dull as any other game out there.

Now i just need to get refamiliar with the controls and such.One of my characters is at least halfway novice bountyhunter:).

They haven't done a character purge yet, and so people who only played the first month and quit still have their characters if they come back. The character purge for characters older than 6 months is going to be in October sometime, most likely just before the expansion comes out so they can clear up alot of space.

As long as you come back before 6 months is up, you're characters should always be around.

Oh, and they changed the requirements for bounty hunter. You don't need to master scout, only get the hunting tree (I think its the hunting tree). It opens up the class and allows you to do much more with it.

combat revamp wont show up until next year so dont kid yourself. JTL is due at then endof October. Combat revamp will take another 3 months according to SOE so that puts you into January. And thats not even considering any pubs in between to fix problems JTL will occurr.

Dont listen to the fanboys here. They love swg so much, it doesnt matter how badly the game gets. JTL is going to be so bad the devs have to purge the database of all old 6 months account. Plus they now plan on limiting vendors to 110 items max. Most of your crafters are gonna quit over this, I guarantee it. But dont take my word for it, check the swg official forusms. There are thousands of posts screaming about the cmobat revamp delay and now many over the new merchant limitations.

The game engine is in real bad shape and SOE cant fix it. Instead they plan on adding a space pack in hopes of squeezing a few more dollars out of us. I feel so frustrated trying to get the word out here. I feel like Im watching the OJ Simpson trial all over again. Doesnt matter how much evidence we see that proves the game is in major trouble, SOE fanboys continue to stand by their game.

Acctually, you're probably right about the combat revamp, it most likely won't be out until January. During the 3 months they will be working on it, and they will also be fixing bugs and problems like they are doing now. I just hope they don't release the revamp a month early and say "we want to see how it works in live and will tweak it afterwards." That would mean they would have to make a revamp of the revamp, and that would suck.

We love the game as much as you hate SOE. You will pick any problem there is to bash an SOE game. You don't care if only 100 people hate it, you will take it and turn it into another point at why SOE games suck. Look, when people come here to find information out about this game, I try and just give them the info, and maybe somemore related stuff. I don't try to say "this game is so cool because of this or that" the way you come in and say "this game sucks because of this or that." I just try to be informative and helpful. If they ask my opinion of the game, I tell the truth, "The game isn't perfect, but I'm having fun doing many of the different things I can do in the game. The thing I love most about this game is the choices you get and the ability to change most anything whenever you want."

Of course there are thousands of posts screaming about the combat revamp. YOU THINK THE DEVS WANTED TO PUSH IT BACK!?! are you out of your mind? they love this game. But their management (SOE, Lucasarts) have set a deadline without the devs' thoughts on it and so now the devs have to play catch up.

I think they should expand the database. I think the 6 month old characters getting purged is a good thing, it frees up alot of space, as some people put millions of credits in their houses and never came back, just leaving their house in a spot an active player may want to use. I don't like the merchant limits, I think it is a bad idea. Some merchants go over the top with 600 items in their vendors, and others use them as extra storage, but most are just trying to sell items like they are supposed to. However, I do think that it should be lowered if it will lessen lag and help the game run smoother. 300 would be more than enough for most, 200 would be the lowest they should go.

The thing you didn't mention is how they are going to remove empty vendors from the world map, and will also purge vendors that are empty over a certain time (can't remember how long, I think it was less than 6 months though).

They planned the space expansion since before the beta for Galaxies, and were working on it since Galaxies came out. The space expansion is not required unless you want to fly a spaceship, be a ship builder, or be one of the 2 new races (ithorian and probably sullustian). It is not required. You don't have to buy it to play, only to use the new stuff it adds. If you want to play a space sim in addition to playing an MMORPG, well now you can and it will only cost you $30 and it is compatable with whatever you have; joystick, gamepad, or just your mouse and keyboard.

I guess I'm not a fanboy. I love my game, but I can see its faults. Right now, PvP is still ruled by the CM. But in a little bit, a new nin-patch will make it an equal on the battlefield. Poisons and diseases will now have a to hit chance rather than always hitting. You will have to expiriment to get it to go max range (which is now 64m) and to get a good to hit chance, and that will take away from damage.

The game has faults, but its not as bad as trolls like you say.

I have to say this because everyone else seems to overlook it (or maybe I am just very very unlucky.) But the whole time 8 months that is, I have been playing not once have I seen a vendor with more then 200 items that weren't repeated 2X what they should be (who needs to buy 100 packs of driod batteies.) I say if you can't craft the things you build and restock it 2 times a week instead of the stocking for a month and a half then don't be a crafter. Yes you are most likely right about the some crafters leaving but those will be the lazy ones that dont care about the stats on there armor or weapons. I just though I would point this out, but I have to agree with the downside to the combat area of the game. I would rather wait to fly then to have to wait to fight equal or close to it on the battle field (also jedi shouldn't have been added until the 2nd year or so and should have been the quest system they are putting in that seems harder then the holo even though it might be shorter).

Star Wars Galaxies is one of the greatest games of all time. Even if my trusted CGW named it Coaster of the year.

You get a free ship if you have been siscribed to SWG for 6 consecutive months, you will need JTL to use it. But simply buying JTL does not give you a ship.

I think you will be decieved, there will be ship missions and a couple of PvP zones, but I think the "smuggler"effect will be minimal.

Remember that this is a player based economy, without going to Bria which is overpopulated, I suggest a medium populated server, so you can find the things you need to buy (depending on the effect of the vendor nerf coming soon..).

I hated Lineage 2 with a passion....but I dropped it like a hotpotato...why pay and play for a game u hate more than life itself?

Everyone gets a starter ship, already stated, but we don't know what it is. Vets get the vets reward ship which is a multi-passenger luxury ship.

Smugglers probably won't get much when the expansion first comes out, though we may be able to slice certain items, its unknown at the time.

EDIT: I forgot, the devs stated they liked the idea of smuggling missions and smuggling exp to replace one of the trees (most likely underground). Of course, this is all still in concept.

Stated by who ? It is not mentioned in the FAQ or the overview. Would like to confirm this if possible. All I found is that is that you will get the veteran reward when you hit 6 months even if you do not have it at release.

Sorry, technically I was wrong. You don't get a starter ship when you buy the game (unless you're a vet). You get it when you start a pilot profession (get novice). Which means it will probably be a few hundred credits (like starter professions) but since it uses Pilot Skill Points, you can be maxed on skill points and still get one of the pilot professions.

2. When you get the expansion you will be given a free basic ship so you can jump into space right away.

This is mostly accurate. When you get your novice pilot skill, you'll also get a low-level, relatively weak starfighter. This isn't designed to become your permanent starship - just something to get you into space and help you earn your first few skill boxes in your chosen profession. Eventually, you'll want to upgrade by purchasing a better starship from a shipwright. We haven't decided on the exact make/model of this starting starfighter yet, but it will not be any of the most prominent ships from the films (i.e., it won't be an X-wing or a TIE fighter).

I have quit in the past, 3 times to be exact but it doesnt change SOE's actions. Even if 20% of the player base quits over this merchant nerf I doubt SOE will change course. I havent quit this time but hope to instead create change by complaining to dept heads, letting others know whats going on, etc. Quitting does nothing to get SOE's attention so Im trying different tactics. Also, I have many friends at swg. Its more or less just a colorful chat room for us these days.

By the way, I dont hate the game that much. Most are confusing my passion for hatred. I'm passionate about the game because of its great potential and am frustrated by SOE's policy. I definitely loathe SOE though. I dont care for a company that lies to its customers.

Finally, if there was a decent alternative, I'd quit swg and go play that. Ive tried several games but just didnt care for them. Mostly the graphics was a real issue for me. Besides Eve, I didnt see one game that had decent graphics. Games Ive tried...

1.) Horizons - actually kinda liked the crafting, very unique. However items didnt decay so nobody needed to buy much. If more people played, I might have stuck around longer than a month. There was just nobody playing.

2.) Eve - steep learning curve made it difficult to pick up. Graphics were very nice. Probably loved by its fans, just not my style of game though.

3.) AC2 - tried a 7 day trial (something like that). didnt like graphics and game was so dark even with my moniter turned up 100%. It was okay I guess. Honestly I didnt play enough to truly know the game.

4.) CoH - does very well for a simple game. character creation is best ever, including better than EQ2 (got starter cd). Combat is easy and neat to watch. No PvP, crafting, real loot, etc made me bored in 2 months though. Graphics are nice and player base is mature. No real staying power though with just combat to do.

5.) FF11 - i played it at a friend's house and frankly I never have cared for asian style animation. I really dont like the pokemon style of graphics. Game is a huge grindfest, worse than swg even. Game is very stable from what I saw.

If anyone has any other suggestions on games to try I'd love to hear it. Otherwise, Im sticking with swg and will continue to complain to hopefully force soe to change course. Once WoW, EQ2, Middle Earth, Matrix, etc come out Im sure my days at swg are long gone.
