I said yes because I think it would be a fun option. I don't necessarily think all servers should be this way, because some people just donnot enjoy PvP. That being said, many people really enjoy PvP and it could be something very fun and unique.
------------------------------- "There are 10 types of people in this world, those who understand binary and those who do not."
I dont see the point of PvP at launch anyway. This game afterall is PvE based.
If you want PvP then dont bother with an mmoRPG, but instead play mortal kombat or street fight 2.
EQ2 will get plenty of added content like expansions, when players are experienced and understand all the defence and offensive equipment and stats EQ2 offers, then yea give PvP to the players that think their characters are built great.
Having PvP at launch is stupid, fighting other players with refugee clotheing
Not having mandatory pvp at the start of a server is bad because of waht you jsut said. People will not be in newbie armor and be pvping newbies in newbie armor.. why if they add pvp later they should make new servers for it :LO
PVP servers. There's people who love PVP, there's some who enjoy it, some who tolerate it, and some who would celebrate if it were gone altogether.
Best choice for the company is to make varying servers, give people the choice of what they want. People like choice. Personally, I enjoy some pvp, but EQ2 is such a pve-rich game I'd probably stick to a normal server. I find there's better mmorpgs for my pvp fixes.
Leaving pvp out at start is fine, people who really want to play but only will with pvp will come when its implemented unless they find another fix.

********************************************************************************** ***4 out of 5 voices in my head agree--I'm ok. It's the fifth one the scares the hell out of me.***
i know that EQII is pvp but is it not a RPG?? and a good roleplaying thing would be to have all the good people fighting all the bad people like freeport against qeynos
All server should have PvP option. I'm okay with the fact that it doesn't come out at release, but I don't want to have to restart 6 months after launch because they have no PvP on their regular servers.
Umm. I agree all servers should be given the option in away that they can fight other that want to fight. Like a challenge or something like that. A colsium. To simply rule it out is not a good idea as it means actaully limiting a product that you want to make as versitile as possible.
Also I think that remark about if you want to play pvp you should'bt be playing mmorpg and play streat fighter is rather crass and very debatable. Neaither game allowes trhe costomizable options or pleasured of creating a style of gameplay and live with the fact that you can beat other that way. There are alot of options when you throw in pvp because it's more competitive and give roots to versitlity.
HEHEHE sorry should have been more specific. If you could lay down a challenge there and then. Like in Black and White. Imagin you set a duel out on the pVe so that only people that want to fight each other. A white glow around you marks out the ring. Then it's all down to the one on one rought styple like in the movies. It would be so funny tro get into a bar brawl. It would make the game evn more realistic and more role playing would be done you know. Always wanted to see that happen, bar fight or a fight between two civilized mages. Basicly something that would give the game a more movie like apeal or emercing effect from an ability.
Noisymonkey, you obviously did not play EQ or if you did, you surely did not play it long. Everyone that has ever played EQ1 for any length of time would know that new servers will be added just for pvp when the time comes for them to open up.
Sony is not going to make a previously PVE server PVP all of the sudden, they will make another server strictly for PVP and everyone will be level 1 and have to start over from there. It was like this when EQ1 first released and even further down the road when Sullon Zek opened up.
So its not really a " if " they add new servers it more like when.
Deadmaniac, if you restart 6 months down the line to start on a PVP server then that is your own decision, Sony is making pvp servers for people just like you and if you decide to switch servers so you can Pk people then don't whine because its not made convenient for you. You want pvp? go play a FPS.....
Guardianking, they have places in PVE servers for others to " challenge " others its called Arenas...and not only that but you can ask others for a duel and as long as they agree to it you can fight anyone anywhere as long as you is not by any guards.
I really do not see why you pvp fanboys have a problem with Sony's decision to make pvp servers separate....that is how it has ALWAYS been and how I am sure it will always be. You are coming into a well established game crying about how its newest addition isn't going to be how you like it. Guess what, there are other games.....
there will be absolutely NO PvP at launch. You heard me correctly, there will not be duels, there will not be arenas, there will not be anything. Further, the developers refused to speculate on whether there ever will be. So if you are hoping for PvP, the wait may be a while. Senior Producer John Blakely said this, and when questioned about it, said that is the stance of the team at this time, and that there will be for 100% sure no PvP at launch.
Aye, yes for the reason that some newbies will need to get the feel of the game before they decide to experience the PvP aspect of the game. A noob going against a vet doesn't stand a chance in my eye...
With all the instance zones and such ,this game is made for PvP . Its a natural thing people enjoy killing ( heheheh) it may be mobs or the greater challenge of killing someone on the other end of the keyboard ...... Please SOE do not take to long to come out with PvP ......... WoW will get the leg up on ya
The way I see it is EQ2 will never have PvP cuz they have WAY TOO MANY CLASSES to balance for PvP. So they basicly screwed themselves when it comes to balancing classes for PvP. I dunno about you but having to balance what? 40 classes? is a task in its own. So if you have faith that EQ2 will have PvP I say you need to "Worship" another game that offers both PvE and PvP. If you like PvE then by all means play EQ2. To those who are gonna "wait" for EQ2 to have PvP thats like waiting for a train thats never comming and you know it but you sit and wait at the train station anyways.
I for one will play EQ2 but for how long without PvP is yet to be seen cuz you can only do PvE stuff for so long especially when you cap lvl. If it takes forever to lvl cap (IE Lineage 2 grind fest) then I for one wont be playing that game very long as well as most other people.... Only people I see playing this game no matter how crappy it is are the EQ1 vets who only play to roleplay and dont really "Play" the game.

Seeing how MMORPGs are never balanced upon release (argueably never balanced PERIOD)... I see this as rather good news.
Besides, MMORPG PvP in general is bs (imho)...You don't beat someone because you're smarter/more skilled, you win because you've spent more time lvl grinding/rigging your toon/finding exploits.
All MMORPG PvP is good for is boosting hardcore/e-bayer/cheater type players' egos.
Don't get me wrong, I love online PvP, but only when the fight's outcome is determined by my RL skills (FPS), not my toon's skills (MMORPG).
If it was up to me I'd ban PvP from the genre all together
*edit* errr...btw I wrote this as a response to the guy with the green text...I only just realized he wasn't the thread starter....silly noob I also noticed I did a typo in the poll...can't seem to edit that...bah!

I don't think you can have 50 versus 50 battles in Mortal combat 2. And MMOrpg characters have a lot more spells and skills that make PVP more interesting
Some people get bored of just camping mobs all day. PVP provides a nice break. Just because you don't like PVP doesn't mean other people won't want it
I don't think you can have 50 versus 50 battles in Mortal combat 2. And MMOrpg characters have a lot more spells and skills that make PVP more interesting
I think you can have 50 vs 50 in a modern version of Mortal Kombat, get SoE or Blizzard or anyone to make the game.
PvP would be interesting, but no point at game launch. No one will have, or have a vague clue what anything does, thus the fact there will be ALOT of content for the player to do, not just "camping a spot".
Theres no point moaning about it right now, the dev's have clearly said there wont be any PvP as of game launch. When the game has been up and running for a few months, with (example) 100s of thousands of subscribtions, if there is enough of those subscriber customers saying that they want PvP then they will get PvP.
Personly i wont have time for PvP, and even if i did i wont be doing much PvP (btw, im a very hardcore gamer, so im no casual player). I like the idea of Everquest(2) because mainly of the vast quantity of adventuring and questing it all involves, i love the myth and magic sense of that and that i can roam or even live in that world. I dont want Everquest2 to be a place full of people wanting to fight other people, there are PLENTY of games that cater for that method of game play. I want this game to be what its meant to be, an "Ever Quest".

Precicely, maybe not a launch but the PvP community is growing, ignoring them may be a mistake. Yes there should be a PvP server at launch I know a few people who wait for games to come out with PvP. Can't ignore them anymore, need to have at least one. What will it hurt with one PvP server, destroy the entire community...yeah right. There will be tons of people playing world wide on launch...I seriously doubt a seperate PvP server will affect it that much...
Nothing wrong with a pvp server.Who wants to bash their heads out should be free to do it on a SEPERATE server.
I think SoE will make a pvp server within a few months.
Atm i think they want to focus on the main aspect of EQ2 which is pve because lets face it EQ fans prefer that and those are the ones to come in first.
There are Three ways wich i think should be considerd...
1. I think the idead of RvR would make way more sence in this game. Because it is strongly based around Good vs Evil. But introducing it at launch would be pointles because RvR isnt fun untill your stong enough to make a difference. PvP would make the factor of Good vs Evil pointless because good would be killing good and evil would be killing evil.
2. If they added a nuetral side that would attract all player. The people who dont like PvP as much can choose a side to play on, and not be able to kill others on thier team. Now neutrals can Kill each other or any other team making it PvP for them. That way it can interest everyone on server.
3. Or just do it the way of EQ (wich i dont think would work in EQ2 though). Have servers with PvP and others that dont but let you talk to the Priest of Discord and become a PvP (wich no one ever did anyway.)

I dont like pvp personally but I am glad they are making some alternate servers so those who do can enjoy the game as well.
