Well is there an open beta or not. There is one thread saying there is and the otehr saying there isnt. Im very confused. If you ask me tho i would say definatley open beta if there is no open beta its telling people there trying to hide something. Discuss.

There is, just search for the link to the official answer on that in the open beta posts.
Its really a "Not quite open, almost sorta open, the cap is mostly off, air is skunking it, but it is still partially closed in most respects, but not as closed as really closed, and you can't see inside of it but you can smell what's inside" beta.
So its a NQOASOTCIMOAISKIBIISPCIMRBNACARCAYCSIOIBYCSWI beta.
In other words, you'll have to sign up somewhere to get in, either the website, or fileplanet, or whatever "partner" they decide to use.

Just like most other games you will see open beta closer to the release date. Like the poster above stated I would guess open beta will start 1st or 2nd week of May, right before the actual game release.

I have no desire to Beta this game, I already know it will be great. I want the experience to be refreshing. I deleted closed beta long long ago and I will turn my head to the open beta.

What iv understood from interviews etc.. is that there will be a sorts open beta, but not like click her to get a key, you have to go through a "trial". What the demands consists off i dont know, but i suspect it has something to do with the M-rating, so a minimum age
VG had an open beta, you had to pre order to get in but that was all.. That is the new standard for MMO's open betas if you pre order you get in.. You don't want a few million people to sign in to your free open beta server, that would defeat the purpose of the beta and kill everyones experience with it and kill your bottom line, sales of the game.
It would be VG all over again if any MMO free opened beta tested a game, super sour taste if you get in and the performance is horrid due to load by the hundreds of thousands of people logging in and downloading the client etc....
But this is My Opinion, not Funcom or Edios's response on it. The term Open beta will probably have to be described better by the companies when they use it as it's an every changing world of legal mumbo-jumbo and marketing guidelines. If anyone does get into any beta, make sure you understand that it's a beta, (testing and changing and testing and then changing more)
Too many people whine in betas about broke things, bug them and see if you can find a work around, if not move on to something else, that is your job in a beta, bugs, lots of bugs.

However, With regards to AoC and Funcom. They didn't have an open beta of sorts with AO, it was more apply to Beta then we send you an invite out as such. They sent out 100k invites one month before launch.
With AoC something similar might happen, all they have said is you need to apply and you stand a very good chance of getting an invite fo O.B. It looks like it wont be your type of OB where you goto the website fill a form out and then get given a DL link, looks more of like the sooner you sign up the beta the chance you have getting invited.
Saying that though, the latest showing of the game in London, it was stated that there WILL be an Open Beta in May'08.

Lotro offered a pre-order beta and the ability to keep your character at a max level of 15 if I remember right, and it is probably the best MMO you can play right now
Where did you get that from? The only thing I heard, was that they just plan a "normal" open beta. Unfortunately neither buying the pre order nor the collector's edition grant you a sport for AoC. I would really like to spend a few bucks extra to get my hand on the game earlier and even help do develop it further.

In short the answer is no. However, look for an open beta in May.
