D&D Online

Anyone have any rumours or an official website for Turbine's D&D Online due 2005?

I'm not going down there. Do you know what those things can do? Suck the paint off of your house and give your family a permanent orange afro.

I already asked this very same question. image

There is a thread here in the Rumor Room about it. There doesn't seem to be an official website for D&D Online yet. We are all patiently waiting with expectant excitement.

I sincerely hope D&D online is good, I don't think the game that basically started the RPG genre deserves any less.

Same here...I hope that Turbine can bring D&D to life.

There is a site for the D&D Online. Just check on Turbine, there is a link for it, though there is not much there.

I wouldn't expect to see D&D Online for another year or two. Perhaps a 2006 release date. They only just began development recently. With the way that many of the MMORPG's are being cancelled, I wouldn't overly hype this game until we see concrete progress.

Trust me, I want to see this game come to life more than any other I've seen to date. But I don't have a great deal of faith until I see it go into beta.image

I just hope they dont screw D&D up somehow and taint the possibility of it being ever attempted again.

I will definately have a bitter taste in my mouth if it does go down.

Turbine had to slip Middle Earth Online into 2005. Given that Turbine is not a big shop and the bulk of its staff are on Asheron's Call:Dark Majesty or on Asheron's Call 2: Fallen Kings, there's not alot left over for the two new games on their plate. The fact that MEO had to slip into 2005 makes me not expect to see D&DO til 2006 at best.

And given that 2006 is just 6 months away and they don't even have an active website up yet like they do for MEO, I'd advise not holding your breath for this one.

So much potential, for a great game, or a tragic disappointment.  I only hope that they can do justice to the pappy of rpg.   I know i'm not alone.  but can someone reassure me?  please?

Lol, ditto. I started around then as well.::::28::::::31::

Looking forward to the day of D&D online. If turbine doesn't do it, someone eventually will. I too will be very peaved if it is messed up though. ::::27::D&D is owed even more reverance that EQ when it comes to roleplaying.::::08::

I can't wait for D&D Online.  Though, my bet is the release is going to be 2006.  Granted we don't really know where the developers are in their...er...development but the lack of any real info kinda makes me think early 2006.

Here is an interview with a D&DO Dev over at IGN:

wonder what rule set... I dont mind 3rd edition  but it doesnt give me the feeling that 2nd edition did.   Feels more like a offbrand imitation.

yeah, i saw that thing at gamespy too, preetty cool - i didnt read the whole topic but took a look at the screenshots and well...... the graphics look pretty good for how early in development it is.. they some smoothing out. MY hype would probably be about a 7.

Ok... i just read a interview with the D&DO developer. He said something like "no PvP". That kinda reduce my hype a bit. Like from 10 too 7. In D&D, pen n paper, you can do almost everything you want. If turbine make this game close to the pen n paper version, they should include PvP. Dont know how easy it is including it, but EVE Online made that PvP cool. Its hard being the bad guys, but thats just good. Its hard being the bad guys in real life as well. EVE is sci-fi, D&D is fantasy. Dont know how easy it is to control and punish bad guys in fantasy games, but it GOTTA be a way! A game, only limited by your fantasy is the game of my dreams. At this moment, that is not possible, but i hope Turbine make D&DO good, and with PvP. Its just natural, and thats the way games should be, as well as balanced. It has to be possible. Go go Turbine, hope you make the world a happier place with D&DO image

Which one did it say no PvP in? I don't recall them saying anything about PvP....

  • HyperNHyperN Member Posts: 15

    I read it here: http://vault.ign.com/articles/520/520943p1.html?fromint=1

This is what said about PvP:

Vault Network: The D&D pen and paper experience is traditionally a group only cooperative experience. You have announced solo gameplay opportunities, but so far no word on PvP. Some fans are worried that adding PvP might cause changes to classes that would alter the game's faithfulness to the d20 game mechanics that fans are familiar with. Are you considering PvP?

Ken Troop: It's an ongoing discussion. At present, PvP is not part of the plan, but it could definitely work in limited settings. Our game is about groups of adventurers overcoming dungeon challenges, and we want to focus on making sure that players have a great time with that first and foremost.

"PvP is not part of the plan, but it could definitely work in limited settings." I really think they should take a look at EVE's system.

PvP in my opinion isn't exactly D&D core business. Granted some of my best campaigns include the ones where the players are the "bad guys" beating up some paladins etc. but still that is p vs np, not PvP.

Come to think about it I recall no incident in my more than 10 years of AD&D when we came player against player (excluding some mindflayer business). I think DDO can be a lot of fun even without PvP. No hype down for me if they don't include it!

Even without PvP, i'd still like alignment to come into play somehow. There should be something that makes the virtuous "Lawful Good" Paladin unhappy about partying with the selfish "Neutral Evil" Rogue.

  • verdelisverdelis Member Posts: 29

I totaly agree with Genjing. Alignment is/was a great way to enhance the players chances to interact with their surroundings in a more realistic way.

It would be nice to have for example vendors that will just cater to your lawfull good character, etc.

Another really cool thing would be if the bards fame level could be translated into DDO rewarding characters (not necessarily just for bards) staying true to some region with lower prices from vendors more helpfull information from NPCs and so on.

Such the pessimist. If you know Turbine then you know they do excellent coding. It isn't a matter of 'will' but 'when'.
