Getting the trail...

So I'm downloading the trail for this as I type. I was wondering what servers have a good amount of active players on them. Oh and will this work with Vista?

I don't have Vista, so I don't personally know.... but there hasn't been a big fuss about it so I think it isn't an issue.  As far as servers, ugh... the classics look like the most populated now.  5 years ago on the weekends there was sometimes a line to get on.  It's a fantastic game but somehow has been overlooked since the big flashy titles started popping up.  Good luck :)

It works fine on vista, frame rate's just a bit choppy nothing horrid. Anyhoo, I started playing on the highest pop classic server (can't remember the name, it starts with a G). So I'm rather enjoying myself at the moment doing solo stuff and I really hope I can get a taste of the RvR before my 2 weeks are up. I'm really up in the air about getting this game or not. I know if I do get it I'll only play til WAR comes out. But I do want to get an idea of RvR...*sigh*

Downloading at moment as i have decided that WAR is my choice in future and i need a break from LOTRO for now... Do you think this is a taster of what WAR is gonna be like?

My expectations aren't to high as i know its an old game but i have missed PvP badly since joining LOTRO and want to try RvR.

You can participate in RvR at any level via the battle grounds.  There is a BG for every level range.  1-4, 5-9, 10-14.... all the way up to 49.  At 50 you get to join the real thing out in the proper rvr zones.  Each battle ground is open to as many players as wish to join, you can come and go as you please.  Each has a Keep in the middle that you can claim for your realm.  Taking said keep will give you quite a big chunk of exp, something along 70% of your level depending on what level you are.

Killing other players in there of the opposite realms will also yield more exp then the monsters you've been killing on the main land.  If there's a lack of pvp in those zones then there are mobs in there you can kill.  Back when I played (June last year) they had increased the exp gain from mobs in the bg's.  I guess they wanted to entice people into going in there and perhaps some of them will want to fight one another.

Hope you have fun with it.  I'm glad more people are getting to experience DAoC, even if it's not what it used to be I still think more people should at least try the game just so that they can see and perhaps experience the fun I had while I played it.  If it had the population it did when it launched I'd more then likely still be in there playing now.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Yes DAOC will be a good test for WAR. Understand that WAR and DAOC will be very different. However There really isnt another MMORPG out there with RvR (Least that I know of)
