I remember when you preordered LOTRO, you got a preorder disc that allowed you to access the beta until your game was in the store to pick up.
Anyone following AoC more closely than I know if they're doing this with AoC?

No beta access though, I'm pretty sure WAR does that.
The only benefit of pre-ordering is that you get to log-in 3 days earlier than everyone else.
As far as I know (preordered the CE), you also get acces to the more or less "open" beta starting on May 1st.
Additionally you can play the launch-version 3 days before all non-preorders.
Am I totaly wrong, but also by Pre-ordering CE you get the exclusive mount?
Haven't heard that anywhere. You pre-order the game and you get to log-in 3 days early, I don't think you get to play the beta another 17 days earlier, I could be wrong though.
And yes, pre-order gets you a mount. If from Gamestop you get a mammoth and if from BestBuy you get a rhino.

If anyone can prove the May 1st access to beta I'll be going to Pre Order right away hehe... the mounts are nice though I love the horses mostly.
BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.
There is no proof because there is no promise.
I am going to use a Horse myself, but have pre-ordered anyways. can be good with one of those special mounts. they can destroy player-made-buildings. which I think will be gold when attacking a guild city. ^^ and you can have as many mounts as u can afford. so nice to have the siege-mount when needed. ^^
Horse is faster, but those special ones got more HP and damage more, which also can be good in PvE when raiding a camp. =P
That "open" beta for AoC is smelling like a bogus promise. Considering they haven't even announced how they plan on doing it, I think they're going to say that these "preview" early start deals with pre-orders is going to be their "open" beta, thus, in their minds, fulfilling their "not so closed beta" promise while not jeapordizing the preorders if the game's beta turned people off due to bugs, stinky gameplay, incomplete content, or performance issues, or whatever.
I hope AoC does the right thing and drops their NDA soon and DOES do a real beta where people can speak out about what the game is like, both good and bad.
I must say its quite lame not to allow pre-order people get into beta. Quite stingy.
People don't ask questions to get answers - they ask questions to show how smart they are. - Dogbert
does gamestop only do the mammoth and best buy only do the rhino?
(rhino ftw)

i pre-ordered the CE and it only gives you the 3-day headstart and the other neat stuff. Betas have nothing to do with pre-orders, you get into CB if your lucky, open beta is more of a stress test at this point with starts whenever.
*edit: CE has mammoth, yay. horses stink :P
I only bought the normal editions from game stop. And after i purchased it still said that I would get the War Mammoth and the Art book.
I give no mercy
Dear Customer,
Thank you for contacting GameStop.com.

in-game items will not be e-mailed until the product is released for
sale. Here is what you need to know to join in on the fun!
We will e-mail you your access code as soon as we receive them from the
manufacturer.
With your pre-order Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures, you will be able
to participate in the 3-day Early Access Program. Early access period
starts on May 17, 3 days before the commercial release on May 20, 2008.

i got the collectors edition but it says all pre orders... so maybe both get it
The devs are saying that the open beta will be separate, I would keep your eyes on that website for any further information.
This was in another post. Shows open beta at May 1. Donno what, "IGN: open beta" means, but let's hope for this to be true.
In the UK with the normal version of the game when you pre-order from certain places you get a free war rhino mount ... So I preordered lol.

IGN open beta is most likely going to be Fileplanet as its the same network - its the most common way and I am not sure how most dont realize this unless this is your first mmorpg -
80-90% of mmorpg's have an "open" beta where Fileplanet gets X numbers of keys and gives them to Fileplanet subscribers only for a week then opens up to non Fileplanet subscribers if allowed afterwards -
May 1st would allow about a week long sub only beta and then a week long free account fIleplanet beta if enough keys were left over so I imagine that timeline sounds about right as thats about how its usually done
And before the anti fileplanet rants start , they have a system for fast downloads in place so I dont blame devs for using them - downloading 15gb give or take for thousands at a time is not easy nor cheap so a 30 bucks a year subscription to fileplanet gets you keys before non sub folks and fast (1000k or so ) downloads
i preordered from gamestop, regular edition, and werent they supposed to email something about codes for the bonuses?
and do they actually still send you the physical disc even though you can download the game to play 3 days early?
Sorry if a silly question, but from where can it be already pre-ordered in europe? Portugal to be more precise.
Will the pre-orders be with us at 20th of May?
they email you the codes with the early start i believe. and yes they still deliever the box on the 20th

With all of the negative talk from leaked beta info on preview/review boards, youtube, other forums, etc, I don't think there's a chance in hell they're gonna open up a beta anytime soon.
If you loyally follow this game, you've probably looked at a lot of boards and other discussion sections about leaked beta info, and it certainly hasn't been pretty. I can't even count the number of times I've seen AOC called Vanguard 2.0 lately.
Any experienced gamer knows not to judge till game day they can say whatever they want in beta either way there will always be critics.
btw Vanguard is a good game and has tons of potential.
Don't confuse a players ability, with a class being Over Powered.

Problem with that is, people can potentially be tricked into funding a bad game. They can buy it at release and find out there are big issues and cancel, but by then they have already given their money and the damage has already been done. I think gamers, intelligently, want to know beforehand what the state of a game is so they can support it if its good, and not support it if its bad.
Its kind of like the gaming version of Darwin's theory of evolution, where the poor dies out the the good rises above it. However, when you've got a system where you have to support a product financially before you can find out if its any good, you circumvent this process, and bad things that maybe should have died continue to live.
Experienced gamers know that the only way to prevent mmo trash from continually being developed every year is to stop supporting it. So they want to know whats good and whats not beforehand. Unfortunately some companies found a loophole to avoid negative criticism and prevent this healthy process from occuring. But thats why I would never pay for anything without having tested it first.
Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence.
Woe to thee, the pierce-ed.
