I have voted 'no', since I have already pre ordered. :P
Hm.. other games have skills that you can use that allows you to block if you have a shield equipped. Is there any particular difference between those systems and aoc's? I watched the video but am unsure of the differences, other than a particular visual animation of your character raising a shield. There is no system in game that detects actual coordinate contact between a weapon and your character (its one based on distance and angle of attack), so in what way does active blocking differ?
Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence.
Woe to thee, the pierce-ed.
I believe holding ctrl is a standard block and ctrl+direction moves the shield in the path of an incomming blow.
I also voted no due to pre-order status.

voted no because active blocking is not a concern of mine
Is it true Active blocking?
DDO has kind of active blocking, but it still has some dice rolls in it. This will be first fully active if what I believe you are saying is what you are. Would be really cool.
I was planning on ordering it anyway, cause it is closest to combat in an MMO that I want. Been playing alot of Rakion lately, in that phase again.
Hoping it will turn out implemented well.
Zomg really , go play ddo it has this; infact it has one of the best real time active combat systems ever. Still that doesn't make it popular.

Actually, no it is not completely active!!!
It still depends on dice rolls, but you have a lot better chance when you use block.
Looks like using an Xbox 360 controller will allow for easy blocking.
Always change your signature.
It's not as active as I would like, but I'll take what I can get.
This is a smart move Funcom.

So many people voted "Is that Ice?"
If anyone can guess where I got that from and get it correct, I will buy them a free month of Age of Conan when it comes out.
Big Hint: You wont figure it out.

This is one of the mentioned features of this game that really piqued my interest. I love the idea of adding more of a skill focus instead of the standard gear based statistic reliance.
i would never play a class that uses shields!
I think active blocking is so cool and to those who say that it still requires a dice role... well sure it does, because if it just blocked everything that came from that direction i would walk around naked with just a shield, never attack and block everything that came my way and never get hurt. There has to be some way to randomly get some kind of damage through the shield.
ANYWAY, as stated by the funcom team, one of the biggest parts of active blocking is going to be in pvp where a seriously damaged tank doesn't have to run away like a "girliemaaan" (to quote the great schwartzenegger himself), he can just stop attacking and focus on blocking all the swings coming at him to stall until the healer can get to him, which is a feat in and of itself in a pvp setting. I know atleast with the priest of mitra they have to be in close proximity and heal in a 120 degree cone/arc in front of them
Im sure I will really suck at it so im just gunna swign around a big pokey stick
go tj crew
I remember when I played DDO years ago. When me and one other made a wall having our shields up while the range/mage classes fires from behind us. I wonder if Shields can block Arrows. ^^
If I don't have a shield I hope I can hop off my Rhino and hide behind him when 100 arrows come my way.. although knowing my luck I'd survive that only to get trampled by one now very angry and slighty pin cushioned looking Rhino.
Nice idea about using your mount as a shield. But impossible to do, with the facts that the mount disapears when un-mouned. ^-^ Perhaps you can block with your weapon. But that wouldnt be as effective as a shield.
Is that ice?! lawl
active blocking wasn't a game buying addition. but that could be because i don't plan on using a shield.
