Muhahaha!!!! You're all wrong. My guess is somewhere in March of 2009. History as shown that every January SoE and LA do a, "state of the game" conference, and seems that all things point to a March time frame. I'm also basing this off of the possible KOTOR MMO release in late 2009. So, March they put a bullet in SWG, LA does some damage control and starts heavy promo on the new MMO for a few months. If you want an exact date, I'll say march 15th, 2009. Hmmm...... If things keep going the way they are, maybe March of 2008. LOL!! muhahaha!!

    Yes, very disturbing.

In other news, I am just happy that SoE is getting their comeuppance with this.  I am tickled pink that Smed has to face the BioWare stuff.  Anything that gives them grief, I am all for.   I hope there are a ton more cancellations of SWG since they know that their game will now sunset sometime in the near future.

You know, I was only being a smartass when I wrote this but I think the new SW T.V. series is supposed to be released in the fall of '09.

As many have already been guessing the speculated new SW mmo would likely come out to coincide with this T.V. series so I think this date might be more accurate then I thought.

  • Sometime in the 3rd quarter 2008.

Who cares....I mean really, none of us play NGE so who really cares? The game we played was removed so long ago. As far as I'm concerned the game has been shut down for 2 years now.

SWG will probably get canned around the time the new SWMMO is released onto the open market. Then when were playing the new SWMMO the NGE fanbois will flock over there and have to deal with us then... and boy its going to hurt their egos a lot..

Nov 5...2008 i'll keep it short, dont want to much reading involved

  • Honestly, it's dead NOW, they just haven't shut it down yet.

    According to my sources:

WELL below 20K paying subs now.

LESS THAN 5K concurrent users online in prime time, and that's across 25 servers.

Only 4 servers that typically surpass 250 concurrent users in prime time.

    That's dead.

In the Pre-CU there were more people than that playing the game at 4 AM.

SWG will die when their monthly fee no longer makes more money then the minimum amount of support needed to run the game. In other words when SOE and LA make no more profit. Im saying soon at the current rate of decrease. My opinion is that SOE will no longer be making money when the sub number drops below...let me do the math

Minimum # of employees= 5, on a salary of 45,000 a year each, immensly low for a major developer but wouldn't suprise me giving the obviously subpar devs

Amount to run game per yer = $200,000, considering common dev cost for simirly failing games

Cost of game per year = $425,000

amount of money per one player per year = $180             425000/180= 2,370 players

Now then with this number SoE and LA will barely be making money. At this point closing the game makes more sense then keeping it open for the mass criticism that they get. Id say they close around 6k players. At that point their profits will be under a million and it really wouldnt be worth it in the grand scheme of things.

Given these numbers and a generous idea of what the current sub number is (12,000) and the current rate of decline (30%/6 months) SWG has very little time left. It will be dead within the 1st Quarter of 2009 probably between the months of January and Febuary. Despite that if they had good business sense they would close December 31, 2008.

SWG is like meeting the hottest chick of all time and then have her give you every STD in the book and then she dresses a monkey up like a baby sues for child support and the judge says yes

One thing i learnt is this is matter of honor for SOE, rather than shutdown they will simply downsize and combine servers which will give them much more time and money than people think.  AoE and Warhammer Online won't drasticly pull players from SWG, I still remember when WoW came out SWG had quite a good number of players it was only when CU came did numbers start to really downfall and people switched.   It's still has life left in it just that SoE are moving the Devs and staff to other mmos.
