DX10 vs DX9

As many of you probably know, Vista sucks, despite the SP that just came out.

So, question.

I have XP Pro 64bit and Vista HP 32bit.

Which would work better with Age of Conan?

I haven't had a single issue with Vista so, no, I don't know what you mean.

The DX10 version of the game, from the screens/vids I've seen, looks better than the DX9. The DX9, however, still looks real good.

google it...bound to be comparisons.  also in a PCPP mag there was 6 pictures that they used to compare DX10 to DX9.

its pretty simple though...if for some reason you have a problem with Vista (i dont except trying to activate DX10 can be a pain sometimes) then maybe DX9 is for you.  anyone else should get DX10 as it is the upgraded version of DX9.

its like asking if you should buy a single core instead of a dual or quad core...its dumb unless you got some problem with using them.

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

I had the same problem some time ago and finally decided that the better graphics just did not justify the problems Vista gave me in comparison to good old Xp which is just tested so long for so many games that it just runs smoother everywhere.

I have been using vista 64bit for a couple of months now myself and did not have any problems with it. The adjustment from XP did take a bit, but as long as you get the right (x64) drivers for your hardware it works fine.

Now, if you have the hardware for dx10 (mainly 3+gb of RAM and dx10 compatible graphic card) then go with vista.

As for differences between the two, check this out: http://gameplanets.blogspot.com/2007/03/age-of-conan-dx9-vs-dx10-comparison.html
The screens are over a year old, but you get the general idea.

PS. All that being said, personally I do not see the point of changing from XP 32-bit to Vista 32-bit. I guess it's 64-bit or nothing. :)

Both versions look great, but DX10 obviously looks better. Farther draw distance, better shadows/lighting, and the awesome "god ray" effect.

I have been using vista for a while now and I have yet to have one problem, and I can not wait to see how well the game plays in DX10.

I wonder how much of the settings were the exact same from one shot to the next. Kinda seems to me that certain options woulda been turned down/off for the DX9 shots.

First shot looks like the draw distance was turned right down for DX9 shot.

Second just looks like lighting was turned down for DX9 shot

N third looks to me as if ground flora was turned off for the DX9 shot.

I am not claiming to know the total difference, I play Vanguard on it's higher settings n it looks more like the DX10 shots. If I play it on it's lower settings then it looks like the DX9 shots. N I run XP with DX9.

The market has already spoken about DX10.  It's not worth the upgrade to Vista.

Yes, it's prettier, but is it worth the time/money/effort/headache to upgrade to Vista when XP works perfectly fine?  It's been a resounding NO for a huge percentage of the PC gaming population.

If you are buying/building a new PC, going Vista is fine.  But for people with XP systems that work fine, it's just not worth the time yet.

I have XP and Vista set up as a dual boot on my computer.  I already invested the time/effort/money into getting Vista to work fine, but I'm still using XP.  I haven't booted into Vista for months.

I think you're better off with the 64bit XP, myself.

When Windows Vienna comes out in late 2009 / early 2010 ( it's in beta now, codenamed "Vista" ), then it'll be worth upgrading from XP. Far as DX10, it just doesn't warrant running a beta OS to have some cooler shadows.
