I would really like to know one thing
Will JGE be playable with mouse ? I know all you can not wait to grab your Joysticks (pun intended)
But played Space simulation from day one (read ELITE) , i can easily say that FREELANCER mouse oriented gameplay was fairly perfect.
So will JGE be completely playable with mouse (and efectivelly too)
or joystick will be must for any serious combat flight ?

Im really annoyed that somehow Netdevil and others writing articles give an impression to many people that players need joystick to play.
Jumpgate Classic, worked just fine with mouse/keyboard.
So yes.
My cool sig: Turrets suck.
Excelent !
Thanks , cant wait for this game
If this is anything like freelancer I would totally be on it. I got a keyboard and mouse for X3 but I simply couldn't do it but I loved Freelancer's mouse/keyboard controls.
FREELANCER!
Aha you love Freelancer too? I asked around and it seems the devs liked it as well, so hopefully keyboard + mouse controls won't be broken.
If Jumpgate has somethin remotely similar I will be all over it!g
Freelancer FTW...best dogfights I've ever experienced in a space sim. Can't wait for JGE
A fighter is great with a mouse in X3, better than with a joystick, while a captial ship really needs a joystick to be controllable.
Freelancer was the best space sim game I have ver played.
I hope this game is like EVE with Freelancer combat. :P
Thanks to the mouse control in JGC, you would be able to head towards the docking-bay at full speed (requiered speed for docking was 10 u/s or lower or else kaboom), switch off your engine, do a 180 turn and switch your engine to full throttle so you would slow down enough on the very last moment. (and you would dock into the station facing backwards :P )
Enertia is both your enemy as well as your friend.
Can't imagine that they would remove that feature from the game.
Freelancer controles were near perfection.... That game itself could have become a mmo if microsoft thought it through a little more =S
But then again at that time space mmo of that type or mmo wasn't mr popular.
I hope JGE will have the same "aura" and feeling to the whole ship to space flying. I never played Elite however i played the ones that came afterwards (Freespace, starlancer, Freespace 2, Freelancer, Darkstar 1) and of them all Freelancer was the best and had some real potential, other than being a beautiful game on the GFX aswell. Ofcourse Freelancer's storyline was very well made along with the plot so it might very well have been a nice thrust to it all but in general Freelancer punched through really great.
Currently the only space mmo that has the likes of it in small way is Ace-Online, Eve isn't what i would call "being in the same room" with the others, since the controles aren't the same and the gameplay pace is horrible slow in comparison.
Been waiting for a Freelancer alike space mmo for a long long time....
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
hehe I came to this forum after reading that latest newspiece to ask about whether this game had anything in common with FL, but it seems I am not the only one...
If they can score that whole Elite/ FL vibe then I am gonna love this. EvE is a good game in many ways, but was always way to impersonal for my personal tastes.
This could be just what he doctor orderd.
When i saw this: www.thetechlounge.com/article/266/Logitech+Force+3D+Pro+Joystick/
It had Jumpgate EVO wrote all over it
The game absolutely supports both mouse and joystick.
The one caveat we have when compared to freelancer is that in our game aim is the center of the screen, similar to most shooters, where in freelancer wherever your cursor was on the screen is where you fired. If we did this, it would completely invalidate joysticks which is something I am just not willing to do.
We feel that the mouse controls are very robust, and are a great way to get into the game while still offering the support of just about every joystick made so that for the users who really want that "in the cockpit" feel we have that as well.
If you look to any of the threads of people post-connect in the UK I think they would agree the mouse controls work great. If not, we will continue to perfect them as well.
Hopefully this gives you a good idea of what the controls are like in Jumpgate Evolution.
