Advice on Starting Over

So after thinking about it for 2 days, I've decided to take the founders ref and start over and get rid of my trial account and character ... even though he will be missed.

So now I was thinking if I want to be the same class again. I was a Man Captain and had a bit of fun, but at the same time was sort of boring since it was all battle shout, and same moves over and over, but I still did enjoy the class as much as to possibly keep it and make it my main again.

But I was also interested in Minstrel ... now which would you guys recommend, I have met a few friends off of LOTRO so I can find groups, I do want to join a kinship and such, but I get on at weird hours sometimes also so I solo a lot. What class would you guys recommend me? Also what server do most of you play in, I chose Landroval

I myself have stayed away from Minstrel and Captain. I have one of each of the other five classes on Landroval. All of the classes can solo. It just depends on how fast you want to level. Make sure to look at the inherent bonuses for the races as well. Elves get that 15 Agility bonus which helps as a Hunter.

Burglars can be slow starting off as they have to do a lot of sneaking around and positioning for attacks from behind. But they are fun and have lots of different tricks to play with.

Hunters are pretty quick levelling as long as they don't get gang banged. Just learn to use your traps and scare skills and multiple targets shouldn't be too much of an issue.  Nothing beats an Elven Hunter for crits when using Storm of Arrows :)

Guardians are slow and steady for levelling. They take a lot longer to kill a mob than a Hunter but a Man Guardian using a shield has multiple attacks available when their weapon is disabled. Makes life a lot easier when taking on those nasty Orcseses.

Loremasters are better at soloing now that they have bumped up their damage.

Champions are also great at soloing. Just remember to switch off Fervour when you get in a big batch of nasties or you will go down fast.

So all-in-all I would say play around with the different classes and races. Take your time and enjoy yourself. I have 5 chars on the go as I am my own self-contained little kinship. They keep each other supplied with equipment and consumables and I don't get bored grinding the same char over and over. I have a lifetime sub so am not in any hurry to burn through to the raid dungeons.

You should do both--there is enough quest content to get 2 toons to 50 with little or no repetition.

Make two characters of different races so you start out in different low level areas.  Study the information on the web about the level ranges for each zone, and take each toon through a different path to avoid duplicating.

    Example:

    Dwarf Champion

Ered Luin:  start to about level 16

Breeland/Lonelands:  16-20 (this is the only real area of overlap, because there's a gap in the 16-20 range)

    North Downs:  20-32

    Evendim:  32-40

    Angmar:  40-50

    Hobbit Minstrel:

    Shire:  start to about 16

    Lonelands:  16 to 32

    Trollshaws:  32-40

    Misty Mountains:  42-50

These are just rough guildelines, and the addition of Forchel will make it even easier in the 38-50 range.   You can follow the same basic path with a Man if you just substitute Breeland for the 1-16 range.

Also, to minimize any need to overlap, keep the following in mind:

    1.  Alternate between your characters so you are always using rested xp (but never capped on rested xp)

    2.  Try to do quests while they are white, yellow or orange so you get maximum xp for them.

    3.  Do the deeds for the traits you want for each character while you will still get xp for the kills.  Not only will you get the xp for them, and perhaps get some drops you can actually use, but the traits will help you as you level.

If you do all this, you will end up with two level 50 characters in about 1.5 X the amount of time it takes for 1 character, plus you will get to see a lot more of the content and still get credit for it.

Another thing to make leveling a little less tedious is to monster play a little and acquire some destiny pts.  You can then always have enhanced xp going for very little dp spending.

Also try out a few classes to find out which ones look promising to your playstyle, check with the trainers to see what types of skills become available at higher levels and see if thats a path you want to travel down.

Also as stated before, there is more then enough content to take 2 different characters to max level without repeating much, so the enjoyment factor really comes from finding the class that you enjoy playing the most.

If you are planning to b grouped a lot, I would go with Captian personally.  They can tank or heal reasonably well at higher levels, and most of the portential of their party buffs is wasted solo.

I personally found Captain frustrating because so many of their abilities only open up when you kill  a foe or when some other special event occurs.  I wasn't too big a fan of 2/3 of my abilities being grayed out and unusable most of the time.  However, you already stated you enjoyed class, so I gather it's not as big a deal to you.  I am certainly always delighted to have a Captain in a group of any size as long as I'm not playing it :-P

I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.
