May Release and still big changes underway?

Joshua69Joshua69 Member UncommonPosts: 953

Kalanthes said they are still working on the death thing. PvP isnt quite set up and the mentoring is still being twinked with.

These are big game changing "sections". and release is May...Either game will come out and will suck for the first few months, and due to mass critisizm the moral of dev's will fall so low they wont care...if they are SMART, they will simply push it back. as much as it sucks, games that are pushed back more than often come out great!

I agree.  This game has a lot of potential, so even if they release a somewhat buggy game, I hope they have the wherewithal to stay true and fix it etc. rather than to abandon it.

Im all for releasing the best possible product. But, keep in mind this game has already been pushed back several times. There is a limmit, especially when the world economy is bad like this, to how much money companies will dump into the testing and developing phase of a game. Eventually, people want a return on their investment. To think otherwise is naive.

Also, keep in mind they want the game to make as much money as posible on initial sales. To do that they have to release at either may/june(end of shcoolyear) or b4 xmas. If they push it back again, it will likely be until the fall in order to maximize sales. No major  western release  in the last few years has come out any other time of the year than end of schoolyear or xmas.

Thats a long time to ask faithfull followers to wait AGAIN. To be honest, the descision to release is never in the devs hands, it is in the hands of the financiers.

I really hope for the game to be releases almost perfect. I hope it will be the new WoW and aquire a similar fanbase and support to really develop further.

I do not expect the game (AoC or any other mmo) to be perfect at launch. There will be bugs and tweaks and patches, it is only natural. What I do expect is a playable product, with some stability behind it - and I am pretty sure that AoC can deliver that.

    what are you talking about?

the death pentaly? its already in the game the only thing they are tweaking is if its too soft or too hard on players. and respawn times, both of which can be done in 30 seconds, all they have to do is play with a timer.....

basic PVP has been in the game since they started, so right now they are adjusting skills, and balancing. they will do this up until lanch and most likely forever after release

i agree i havent heard much about mentoring...but i honestly dont think its all that important to have at lanch since many people will be leveling....mentoring is nice once the game has gotten older and the lower level areas are more empty so your high level friend can help you without gimping your XP

Forget the changes worry about the performance which i still say will be lousy when alot of people are in the same area. I hope for AOC fans it s not but i think it will be. Yes i know you can set your settings down but who wants to.

I will for one. I'll always trade graphics/resolution for fast framerates/response times, especially in a PVP oriented game.

It is my greatest concern, how  well it will run. Regardless, I think its coming out on May 20th for better or worse.

    Here's to hoping for better!

Who the hell are you, and why should I care?
Congrats! You are a victim of Trollstar!

I agree it will come out on the 20th. I for one haven t yet decided if i will get it( the wife wants to play WAR more) :) I ve talked her into many games though lol. I think i will wait awhile after release to decide and to be honest with WAR announcing officially CE info on wed i m sure it s on pace for a release around June so i might wait too long and just get WAR. Tough on me though because i m one of those try every damn MMO out there type. I have boxes all over the place :(

I just hate how when MMO's first come out and there are some twinks that need to be done and patches that need to be applied, people freak out and say the game is horrible.  All MMORPG's have twinks at start...I have high hopes for this game and trust it will be good, but not at launch. I just dont want to hear negativity 5 days after release!

How are death penalties and PvP rule sets "big changes"?  I'm no programmer, but I'm pretty sure those are fairly simple to change.  Mentoring, I'm not so sure about.  I know they're not going to add a buggy mentoring system, though, and I don't mind that being a post-launch addition.

Josh, trust me on this but no matter what you type here there will be people who agree with you, and other people who pick apart everything you type. This is a hard crowd to please.

Is it true that you can go to hell in age of conan after death, like after building up enough of greed or something?

It was originally a mechanic involved with spellweaving, but it wasn't very practical.  From the sounds of it the new penalty for spellweaving is the spell blowing up in your face and potentially killing you.

how do MMO's play on Console's? good? i cant imagin being able to cast as fast as a PC. i played EQOA but that was all console. if u have people also playing on PC i think that would put u at a disadvantage

early on they thought it would be a good idea to send you to hell if you severly jacked up spell weaving hell on paper it sounds like a good idea but they realized after getting responses like "WTF I GOT SENT TO HELL IN THE MIDDLE OF A SIEGE" so they took it out.

Thats a possibility, Age of Conan will probably be a make or break game due to the large amount of postponing, but I don't think its likely.   They have pushed it back because they did not have a pristine game in their eyes, and they will do it again if they see fit.  My only problem is going as far as saying that the game will probably turn out like that because the Kalanthes interview indicated that these sections were still being worked on.  I think a more proper word would be tweaked.  These things are very important as you know and I'm sure that they didn't put it off until just now to construct them, they just require a lot of time to perfect, but they cannot actually perfect it until its released to everyone.

Well aside from my opinion that it will be just as good as the hype says at launch, I understand.  The loyal followers of this game will not be spreading their negativity after 5 days, at least I hope not.  The people that freak out are usually the ones that gambled and spent the sixty bucks to get the game on release after not really learning anything about it, only to be disappointed.
