Best dramas in MMO history

mindw0rkmindw0rk Member UncommonPosts: 1,356
I played WoW for 3 years and those were 3 years of constant drama every single day. People fought at BGs, Arenas, outdoors, but more frequently at forums. You may hate dramas, but they make life in MMOs more fun and memorable.
So my question is, what were the most epic and interesting dramas from your online experience? I'd like to hear things like this: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=180867&site=pcg

    SWG: The NGE.

In all of my years of gaming, or just on the internet in general for that matter, I've never seen a shitstorm that even compares to that one.

I  wasn't on the WoW server it happened on, but I remember that video of the one WoW guild that attacked that in game funeral in a contested territory.

*edit*  Best drama in MY MMO history.  lol  Sorry.

The time I was going to close down the (EQ raiding) guild I ran to merge with another like minded guild (because my guild didn't have enough volunteers for leadership to function the way we wanted it to).  Instead people didn't want to merge, so I left and handed it over to some people who all of the sudden had an urge to lead (raids).  Funny because I asked them to help lead not a week before and they turned me down.  My top officer and I (the only raid leaders we had at the time I made the decision) joined up with the guild I had approached about the merge.

So that lasted about a month.  I was the devil during all of that to the old guildies (even though I was responsible for every victory we had and all the organization we had that made us a strong guild).  But in the end the guild died because the leadership vanished.  The guild then broke up and everyone went their separate ways.

Guess they should have merged to preserve the friendships.  The friendships were what mattered most.  I told them that was my intention, but they didn't listen.  The guild faded away as I anticipated it would if it did not merge.

Definitely drama I'll never forget.  The only silver lining was that my analysis of a non-merger future was dead on.

*edit*  For one of the best dramas of MMO history I would have to site the utter failure of Vanguard, and the shit slung around on the beta boards.  I'm not kidding people were PISSED!

The biggest drama that I ever personally witnessed was when our first raid leader; a guy who played a female character (and pretended to be female IRL in order to manipulate people) decided to randomly replace our tried'n'tested DKP system with a "the item goes to who I think should get it and that's final" system.

After teo weeks of raiding and him giving a ton of items to himself and his 2 RL friends, we staged a mutiny, all /gquit, reformed under a new name and carried on with our old DKP system.

The funniest part was walking past him in Ironforge several months later, me in my full Tier2 and him in his half blue/half Tier1 crap.

WoW has too many people, Too many different people and thats a good enough reason for shit to stir up. just sit back and Watch Barren Chats or Noobshire.

    My MMO Drama History:

    SWG: Pre CU -

A girl in our guild threw a bitch fit becaue we would not allow wookiee's ionto the guild . . . and everytime we saw a wookie, we would taunt them.  Well, she was mayor of our city, and gave some of our arch enemies permission to build in our Class 5 city.  They came, built houses, then one the lection and evicted the rest of us.  One of the largest Imperial guilds on the server . . . without a home.  SHe had other issues too, but that was the one that tipped the bucket.

The whole month that the drama was being played out, the server forums were ablaze with the airing of dirty laundry from our guild.

    lol

I played at Warsong US server (WoW) and we had a guy named Avatar. He was already infamous from DaOC and his attitude made him even more infamous in WoW. He made hardcore guild and achieved some server firsts in Molten Core but took every single epic his hunter could wear. He had like 5 1-hand weapons (including Felstriker) and 2-3 2-handers. Other guildies could get something only if he had this item already or didnt need it at all.

Avatar ganked noobies 24/7 at contested zones and claimed to have the best PvP team at server. When other team challenged him at STV arena and won, Avatar said they lost because someone used mind vision on him (this doesnt affect a fight, just adds an small icon to UI). If you would even think about being better then him, Avatar would make 3 paragraphs why you're noob, why you're worse then him and why you should die.

When transfers were opened, Avatar ordered his people move to other realm. And they did... but not where he wished. So Avatar appeared at one realm ("Wtf!? Where are you guys!?"), his now happy guildies at other. Lol owned.

Just few moments from drama rich life of our favourite hunter. He plays a warrior Serennia at Tichondrius US now.

I think anyones whos ever been guilded in WoW has experienced some sort of MMORPG drama. Collectivly, however, I would say the SWG CU/NGE changes would be the greatest,

When Mystere was banned from EQ back in the day for writing a piece of fan fiction that was a bit controversial.   The actually banned the author for life from EQ for posting a story up about their dark elf character on the games forums over on IGN vault network boards in a forum disignated for fan fiction.    There was even a warning to readers not to read the story because of its content.   The person wasn't banned from IGN, but some holy rolling church person found the story offensive and complained to SOE and Smedley and Mystere was banned.

Took about a month and many petitions and in game sit ins before Mystere was finally allowed to roam the world of Norrath again.

EVE Online....when Hellgremlin infiltrated the rp corp (took about 11 months) and gained the trust of the leader and got access to everything and stole all their blueprints, corp isk, etc..

then killed the leader in her Imperial Apocalypse which is a VERY rare ship in the game and cannot be attained anymore

he stole about $16,000 worth of stuff if he we're to sell it on ebay

it got published in magazines, and even on this site I believe i'll have to find it

Player drama is isolated usually to a single server, and normally has little impact on people outside the drama group (usually a single guild or a guild they interact with).  It's great fun to watch these people carry on from outside the impact area.

However, for real serious drama, you have to get the developers of the MMO involved, as SWG did with the utter stupidity that was the CUNGE.  Then every last player of the game has a direct stake in the drama.

CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

Oooh, I heard that was just a legend; if you can find it, can you post a link? I don';t know what to search for.

most drama I've seen in/about a game is by far and away DAoC VN server boards, that was and still is to some extent just absolutely ridiculous.

    Speaking of legends...

EQ PvP servers were constant smack, both in ooc and on forums, but real server wide drama?

    well... Lets not forget Fansy.

Some of the bigger ones I recall

SOE blindsiding the players with the NGE.  Yeah.

When a player named Rainz killed Lord British while he was giving a speech to players and was soon after banned.

A player from a very high ranking EQ guild on my server ninja looted all of the loot on a pickup Nagafen raid and posted about it to "teach the noobs" a lesson.  This took place shortly after they made a level cap of 52 on the dragon encounter that upset most of the high end raiders that dominated the encounter.

Another ninja looting story in WoW where some guy took something and was posting on multiple accounts trying to recovery his reputation claiming his "friend" was playing him while he went to the bathroom.  Then on page 8 he forgot to log out of one account and posted as the other person.  It was funny.

The first time someone on my EQ server got caught cybering someone for loot and sent a steamy comment to group chat instead of directly to the player.  I think her name was mikki or something like that and the other person was a guide or some sort.  Epic funny.

On my old WoW server there was a pickup raid leader who had a rather bad reputation for screwing over the pick up players was outed for a legal mess he got into.  Turns out he was, lets say, to old to be doing things with the young ladies he was driving across state line to visit and got caught because he got her, well you know.  While he was let out on bond he made a video and posted it on some game site bragging about doing the same damn thing with another young girl and also filmed himself breaking his release conditions.  It was amazing to see people still defending him even after seeing the court documents and the clips from the Local news.

I remember that one! :)  I read the story too.  Was pretty good hehe.  Had some gruesome torture scenes in it I think.

Remember the EQ Guide that got pissed at a guild, and "banished" them to someplace (forgot where) where they suffered an unending death loop? hahahaha!  Wish I could find a link to that again.

Anyone else here remember when all of the crafters gathered outside of Theed in SWG to protest the new crafting changes?  The GM's response?  Teleported them into the Deathwatch Bunker if I remember correctly.

    1.) SWG: CUNGE

    2.) Smed is evil incarnate

3.) Vanguard: The Rise and Fall of the Vanbois, aka VG vs LotRO

4.) CoX: ED (not erectile dysfunction but you'd think so the way some players freaked out and left)

    5.) UO: Trammel Effect

    6.) WoW kiddie discussions

    7.) Hardcore versus carebear

8.) DAoC: ToA -- so unbalancing that classic servers were released.

9.) DAoC  redux: Smite Clerics nerfs aka "I want my cleric to heal and only heal..."

    10.) Darkfall Vaporware
