The 12 additional quests might be nice but the only real draw is the OB slot. And when will OB happen?

At this point I'm seriously disenchanted with the Beta selections and how the occurred with both WAR and AoC.

I guess I'll play when the 'other 500,000'  play and save myself 2 months of game play fees (assuming a $50 price tag for standard version and $15.00 a month for fees.)

As of right now these are North America CE's being pre-sold (US / Canada).  I bought mine soon as word hit the beta forums.  Sites taking pre-orders are listed here.

When they start giving in game items to people who buy the CE it's when I say "nah I'm not going to bother playing this game" because I just don't believe in doing this to a mmorpg. Everything you see in game should be because of what you got rewarded and not what you bought outside the game. Sure I could buy a CE but I have better things to waste my money on.... CE bonus stuff should be all extra items giving to you outside of the game like 1 more month added sub or models or artwork etc etc.

According to ebgames.com, WAR's release date is 10/14/08.

Hah for most ingame specialization or little trinkets are the only worth of buying a CE, Im sure the vast majority dont care about those special leather keychains they jus wanna woop ass an look cool doing it

Something about this really confuses me.  They say there will be 12 heads with the collector's edition, and they say  you will not look like anyone else.  Mmmmm......won't the other people with collector's editions have the same heads?

This kind of marketing sets a dangerous precedent.  I can imagine some developer coming along and saying, hey....lets release crappy looking armor with the game, but with the collector's edition we could release a few complete sets that totally look awesome.  This is a marketing concept that I am not a big fan of.

Sorry for my skepticism.  I'm a jaded gamer these days.  A really great game could turn it all around though and restore my optimism.

Feel free do to so but you are the odd man out.  And welcome to the real world.

I think wow did well with their collectors edition.  They gave cool stuff like an ingame pet, and then your art books and map and all of that, but they didnt add anything that gave a direct gameplay advantage to those who spend more on the box.

I disagree. Extra Quests and extra heads were a great idea. Now, if the extra quests give "uber" items that one cannot match in other parts of the game then "yes" that is a bad idea. But if it looks different from anything else, then that is worth it. The heads idea is brilliant. This is the first time i've seen a collector's editon that offered "me" anything that I wanted.

In game pets? I don't care. A large map of the world? I'm tool old to put large fictional game maps on my walls. That's not going to impress many women who come over your place "oh, nice fireplace and I like the furniture... what the hell is that?"

the xp thing is a bit odd. Of course, people want to get more xp. So it's hard to turn that down. But that does seem to say "hey, buy your way to a higher lvl character".

I can pretty much assure you that nothing about playing an mmo is going to impress 99% of women, be it little action figures, over glorified comic books which some call novels, or little heads to go on your cartoon character.  I work in a profession that is 95% female.  In 11 years, I have NEVER met an actual woman that played an mmo, despite all the hype about how many women play mmo's.

I am very open about being a gamer.  I have several guy friends at work that also are gamers.  Women laugh and roll their eyes.  Most of them think it's a waste of time and we could be doing something better, like yard work, cleaning the house, doing something with the kids, or putting in overtime to make a little extra cash.

Just bought mine from Amazon and the Beta site is now taking the beta code. The other two are still not working, but I assume this will be closer to the release date.

  • TheHavokTheHavok Member UncommonPosts: 2,423

Just ordered mine from amazon aswell.  The CE looks like one of the best i have heard of.  Cant wait.

Europeans got hit again, because it is €79.99 for us which equals about $120 . No CE is worth $120 with preorder still another $15 to add. Wake up dudes! The day the dollar equaled the euro is long gone

Comes with free CD key for your friend to join Wow with.

  • foliusfolius Member Posts: 2

They dont charge the extra money for ingame stuff. They charge it for all of the things you get in the box besides the cdkey and game disks. Yes, thats a reason that some people buy it but in actuallity, it costs far less to provide special ingame content than to print/ship/build everything in the CE.

I dont play the tabletop but and I have asked our local tcg/comic/minature store why they dont carry Warhammer and his response had to do with the cost of it. So if this is true (and someone that plays the tabletop could confirm) look at this CE. Your getting a mini which if there are only 60k made could be concidered a rare or uncommon mini? How much would one of thoes cost to buy as a single? Now add an artbook and a graphic novel. I bet thoes 3 alone make up the assumed 30$ extra the CE will be.

Everyone complaining about the IG items stop, please just stop. In no game have thoes ever been a large advantage. If you really think items, cosmetic or otherwise that will only effect you for the first few levels really gives me an advantage over you in a game..............you really REALLY need to question yourself as a gamer. I'm sorry but feeling someone else has "paid" there way to an advantage for the first couple levels is ludacris.

Its a great CE and it is the first I will have ever ordered.

Speaking as both a warhammer player and a hobby shop (that deals in after market minis) my experience shows that the "limited run" minis are not really worth much as collectables, more for bragging rights.

Warhammer players are notoriously cheap (understandable given the prices for the minis) so the demand for a rare mini that is "just a guy" on the table is rather low.  Now if GW releases some special character rules for him then the value goes up some. Finally, seeing as you have to assemble and paint the limited ED mini many of them are going to get "gunked up" meaning if you did find it in the secondary market you would have to strip the paint, an annoying task at the best of times.

I think they are saying that 60K will stand out above the potential Million(s) of players versus each of the 60K will be a truly unique 'head'.

To your later post: A lot of females play but they tend to be younger folk. I do know a fair number of ladies in the 35-40 bracket (my own) who play but the numbers are a heck of a lot smaller than the teen and early 20s crowd of femme MMO players.

But when will the OB actually occur. If it happens a week before RTM happens..what's the difference? (Other than to the fanatics)

  • BurnthebedBurnthebed Member Posts: 443

To all the people QQ ing about the xp bonus saying it's going to "buy people's way to a high level" you are wrong. If you read the actual description of the tome of insight it clearly states that you get 3 uses out of it and each is 60 minutes of 10% xp gain. So basically you get 3 hours of extra xp which is nothing...maybe ONE level higher than anyone if you play it right.

I personally am VERY impressed with the CE. It's got things I actually WANT to have, so I preordered it. I had the WoW CE and it was a worthless waste of money. I got a dvd of cinemas I already had, a game dvd, an art book, and a stupid in game pet that did nothing. At least in WAR I will be able to choose a badass looking face, and do some extra quests plus have 10% xp for 3 hours.

The sleeper awakes...and rides his dirtbike to the mall.

Yes, and the link to Play.com was offered on Warhammer-Alliance also. I have preordered my CE. One thing though... I am not a model maker, and the orc model is self assemble and paint :( Now then, I am sure I can put the thing together without messing it up too badly but paint it as well? i have my doubts that any model I paint will look like it should (as advertised)

Why couldn't they have it pre-assembled and painted for people like me?

If you don't think it's worth 80 Euros, don't buy it.  If no one buys it, the price will drop.  When people do buy it, the price will be justified,

If you're European, you're probably already paying $11 for a Big Mac meal, that an American can get for $4.50.

Don't be silly... A Big Mac meal is only £10.50 here
