Ironically, by moving their release date and themselves from being in direct competition with AoC, they may have put themselves in direct competition with the next WoW expansion. This is a lot worse then AoC because both games have the same target audience, and WoW is a behemoth in the press whether we like it or not.
Actually it may do just the opposite. Instead of using their resources to try and pull people into the stores they are now going to be able to piggy back off the mass of casual players coming in for the WoW expansion. So when "Johnny" comes into the story to by his copy of Wrath of the Lich King, what will he see sitting next to it? A copy of this new game Warhammer. It may just earn Mythic some people that wouldn't of otherwise tried out the game.
Maybe, but that is a really large gamble especially given the raw name recognition WoW has gained over the last few years. Plus like one of the above posters said, Aion is coming out too. While Aion may come off as a darkhorse game, it is an RvR based game that has far better graphics then what we have seen from WAR, and we are talking about the fact they are not even in Beta yet. So if little Johnny flips the boxes over and compares graphics, it might be a problem. Graphics don't really matter as much to me aqs game play, but it does to a lot of people out there.
You forget that WoW has just been around for a few years, warhammer turns 25 this year.( yes i know the WC series is old but WoW is what drew in the large numbers) warhammer is also pretty big in Europe where it orginated. Mythic is also based in England. Plus as long as it comes out before WotLK or gets a guranteed release date close to it, i dont think WotLK will hurt it. People already wanting to quit wow wont bother with it. Plus like someone said, if someone sees the xpac next to another mmo they might consider it. This is how i tried out Vanguard and LOTRO(which i dont feel bad starting when i get my new comp soon. current could handle beta but not live game.......)
Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.

I am delighted about this... I think AoC deserves a real stab at being the next big thing, and this will give it the breathing room as well as a increase in initial purchasers. And if it isn't... well, WAR will come after. So its win win in my opinion.

I couldn't agree more. I'm looking forward to Aoc, Warhammer, and aion. Launching them too close only results in a split. With them alittle more stretched out, it should give the buyer a little more time to decide which is right for him, instead of having to buy both around the same time.

The part in red isn't true. Games Workshop is a European company if that is what you meant. Mythic is based in the VA area.
Currently playing: LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)
Looking Foward too: Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)

Yeah, except SWG was going to bring in all the SW geeks(even if that did happen they left after CU), D&DO was supposed to bring in all the D&D nerds(never happened) and LotRO was supposed to bring in all the lifelong fans of the books and the new fans of the movies(sorta happened but then they left out of boredom). MMOs based on IPs can't rely on the fans of the non-videogame source material.
The closer Warhammer launches to WotLK the worse it will be. If people are thinking about quitting near WotLK they will more likely stick with WoW and see what the new expansion has to offer than to go to a brand new similar product. If you're sick of the taste of Pepsi you don't go to Coke.
WotLK will be a major factor in the launches of the other MMOs. Name recognition, content and the sticker advertising how many tens of millions of people playing will draw new and old players.
Hey Folks, Its official, Warhammer online: age of reconning is delayed until Fall 2008. Obvious reasons are more time for development. They also say that they don't want to say a date because of competition. http://www.warhammeralliance.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31118&page=2 This is where a Dev talks about the delay.
Looks like Im going to play AoC now
I never knew they were planning on releasing before fall.

I hate WoW and everything it pretty much represents as far as end game ..and i've been happily WoW free for over a year almost 2 actually...so WAR's release time alognside of Wow's doesn't affect me or the other dedicated fans of WAR...most of us frankly dont' give 2 shits about WoW or its die hard zealot players. They can keep WoW there's billions of people in the world and they're not all playing WoW.
Please Refer to Doom Cat with all conspiracies & evil corporation complaints. He'll give you the simple explination of..WE"RE ALL DOOMED!

You certainly won't keep drinking Pepsi, even if they claim they improved the flavor - again. But you loved Pepsi for so long. Maybe you should try something that tastes familiar, but so much better. Why not try Coke?
Why do so many of you keep complaining that they're pushing a game to compete with another release!
The game is being pushed to be completed, and well polished! Releasing a pay-to-play-beta-test game is getting old, and I applaud Mythic for pushing the game so they can get the game complete regardless of where the launch date lands!

Don't mean to offend any AION fans. I'm curious to see what they do with Aion myself. With that said...I don't think there will be any "fierce" competition between Aion and WAR.
As far as the game being pushed back..this happens with nearly every MMO that has come out.
The only exception I can really think of is WoW..I don't remember hearing of that even 6 months before beta. (Then again, back then I didn't read up on games as much as I do now.)
Every game that announces, it is pretty much common knowledge that you can take their estimated date of release and tack 1.5 to 2 years onto it for an actual release date.
Fans are much better at speculating an actual release date than the devs are. I have yet to figure out why this is so...but it is true.

It takes guts to move a release even if it's for the right reasons.
We will get a better game for it and that's cool with me. Kudos to Mythic!
