NCsoft has announced that is has licensed Unreal Engine 3 for the development of two unannounced MMO projects.
SEOUL, KOREA (March 25, 2008)–NCsoft Corporation, the world’s leading developer and publisher of online computer games, today announced that it has reinforced its relationship with Epic Games, Inc. by licensing Unreal Engine 3 to develop two unannounced, top-tier massively multiplayer online games. NCsoft has achieved spectacular results working with the Unreal Engine over the years, shipping the highly successful Lineage II, and the soon to be released Exteel, using Unreal Engine 2.
“Unreal Engine 3 has a well structured rendering pipeline, and its graphical quality is superb thanks to advanced lighting and shadowing systems,” said Young-muk Choi, lead programmer, Development Unit, NCsoft. “Tools within the Unreal Editor empower us to instantly produce and optimize our outputs, and we especially love how the engine enables designers to easily prototype concepts without the need for programming.”
“NCsoft pioneered online game development using Unreal Engine, as evidenced by Lineage II, one of the most commercially successful and enduringly popular online games in history,” said Jay Wilbur, vice president of Epic Games. “We are thrilled to take this next step with NCsoft, and are fully committed to supporting their projects. We expect to be completely wowed by what they do with our latest technology.”

Lineage 3 it's one of them as the president of NcSoft said in an early interview that they will setup a team this year to work for L3.
But what's the second one?

Blizzard Boss: Making gamers happy is not my concern, making money.. yes!
I hope it's a high quality sci-fi MMO
Stargate Worlds perhaps?
It's been announced yes, but they don't have a publisher yet (or haven't announced it)...and they are running on the U3 Engine.
Then again...the press release talks like they are games they would be developing in house...which wouldn't fit SGW since it is being developed by CME.

A publisher for what? NcSoft are both developer and publisher and yes , U3 Engine seems a good decision for L3 since L2 used U2 Egine and they did a great job with it.

Some were specualting that Guild Wars 2 might be using the Unreal Engine but last I heard Arenanet was going to upgrade their current one. Seems like NCSoft has a suprise somewhere up their sleeves on this one.
With Aion coming this year and L3 on their plans , I believe they are not starting to release other Fantasy MMO. An sci-fi MMo it's like their next game.

Having said that, either they changed their mind or it's another game.

Carbine studios one looks kinda sci-fi to me, or at least partly... the guy in wallpaper #1 clearly has a pistol at his side and is wearing a bandolier.
i want GW2!
didnt ncsoft get the star trek license so im thinking STO
Is it possible that Champions Online will be using this engine? I know that game is being developed by Cryptic but I'm not sure how the two relate to one another as far as liscensing deals...At any rate, I'm really looking forward to Champions online, it has a LOT of promise.
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.
They said they want to make a mmo designed for consoles, and Star Trek is not that appealing to todays console fans as it used to be. I am not sure but since they want their mmo to be appealing to the asian market too, Star trek is not very poplar in most of Korea and Japan or China. I might be wrong though
I doubt it because the way champions looks like in that teaser trailer they released, it realy doesnt look like the developers need Unreal 3 for the graphics they are using. Their prolly using a upgraded version of the engine they used for CoX.
Unless I missed something, Cryptic got the license, not NCsoft.

as far as i know Stargate Worlds is being developed and published by Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment, but that could have changed
We have just been talking about this on the L2 forum (just a few posts) but the thought could be that many people want a more Guild Wars gameplay idea where there is a small grind so that you can learn your character, get some story, etc and then be able to jump into the action.

I would definitly like a game that is less based on grinding to improve yourself as to grinding to improve your faction/guild/kingdom/etc... I want a game were players build the world like Shadowbane was.
I'm not sure if you could have a game like Shadowbane anymore. At least from my understanding of how it works.
I think in Shadowbane one can siege your town/castle at any time they want? I just don't see a AAA title being made with that mechanic because there are so many more regular people (read: not young gamers) playing in the online space that they are not going to be waking up at all hours of the night/going home very quickly, in order to stop a siege.
