3. There are a few that could go here...Asheron's Call, Ultima Online, plus a few in development that I'm looking forward to.

no real order but here goes....
- Everquest >>was my first mmorpg (1997) it holds a special place in my heart...even though it nearly ruined my life.
- DAoC >> love the RvR and grouping was always fun... great community
- AC2 >> lotta depth here, good skill customization and great quest system. nothing but nice things to say about this game.
*runner up*
- FFXI >> if it had more than 6 monster models it would have kept my attention longer. there is just something about killing crabs from lvl 1 through lvl 55 that has a way of destroying your sanity ever so slowly. i know this is no reason to quit a game alone...there are other small reasons as well. lvling post 50 became torture and having a craft skill really didnt gimme the money output i wanted. spending 80% of my time killin stuff just for craft items just took its toll.

Sadly 2 are by SoE.However,EQ was made by verrant and planetside was mainly developed by verrant before SoE axed them.

The best times I had with games, which sorta follows into the best mmos for me.
Shadowbane - you either like or hate this game, it owns
Someone said this before - Hlebreath International Open Beta. This was the most fun game I had.
AC2 - first game that got me into the whole crafting deal, it was alot of fun.

What the hell, my post is gone... oh well... ill say it one more time
1) Ultima Online - (Pre 3D, AoS... i didnt have the fortune to play pre UO:R but i was lucky enoguh to be able to play for almos a year before they totally screwed it up with 3D) My favorite MMORPG, i had so much fun playing this game, its the only game thats ever made me scream at my computer (i had dial-up and it would always disconnect at the worst time)
and also the only game that ive ever been considered to be 'addicted' to.
2) EVE online - Some people say its a big grind, but i at least find it a useful grind, making money instead of getting the nex stupid level. I only playe the trial so far but i plan on paying to play, since i think the end game for EVE is massive, its so open ended.
3) Asherons Call 2 - Again i only played the trial but i had alot of fun playing it, i like how every path can use magic, ranged and melee attacks (of course im sure they get less and less effective at any given one) Even though the quests were typically fairly straight forward i had a lot of fun just exploring, gameplay was good too and the graphics were very unique.

Those 3 are definetly the best mmorpgs. You cant go wrong with any of those hot titles.

Excuse me for being off topic, but, can someone tell me why Lineage 1 is good? (This is not a flame and does not contain any sarcasm).
Anyways my top 3 MMORPG are:
1. Runescape (don't flame me) - It was fun before all the 8-10 year olds came along (2-3 years ago), the community was great, they didn't make stupid updates, it was simple, the community wasn't half as immature as now. Now it sucks, especially after the 3d update, it's horrid.
2. FFXI - It's a great game all around, but I have no time for the grind.
3. Lineage 1 - Don't know any reason, it was addicting.
