Crafting In WAR, any clues?

This post is entirely about the Crafting in WAR. I am pretty sure that they are going to have a Blacksmith type profession (not sure if its called profession). But i am unsure about anything else. Some of the Podcasts said that they are for sure going to have crafting but they are still making ideas because it has to be entirely related/contributing to the War conflict. Does anybody have any information on what crafting types they are going to have, or know any more than i do?

Thanks.

The only thing that I have heard is that crafting classes will only make items that will contribute to the "war".

Really, It is way to early for info on crafting, and Mythic really has not said a whole lot about it other than that. But, I am sure there will crafting. We just do not know how it will work at this point. At some point has crafting gets into beta, we will know a lot more.

Just as Suory said, there is currently no public information about how the crafting is going to work in WAR.

"There is as yet insufficient data for a meaningful answer."

The engineer can craft grenades and weapons, but other classes can't use them all. Some grenades are to complicated for other classes to use. That's the only thing i know about the crafting in WAR

    To date:

EVERY question about crafting has been either outright avoided or the statement "It will be awesome" was used.

We know absolutely nothing about crafting other than it is supposed to be in the game. thats it.

The crafting system will not relate on recipes.

I don´t know who said it but it was recently.

Considering the nature of this game I wouldn't be expecting anything as deep as EVE or even SWG.

Crafting is expected in most MMORPG's so it should go without saying that it will be in the game.  The BIG question to me is "How important will it be?".  In other MMO's the gear is what makes your character, you have your "Phat Lootz" and you can dominate other players of equal lvl that have lower end gear.  The Devs have said multiple times that in WAR they are trying to put more emphasis on actual player talent rather than how much gear they have farmed.

If the Devs can really pull this off and player gear is nothing more than a little buff, how important will crafting be?

Well I have seen everything from loot item dependent games such as WoW where looted items are extremely crucial and drastically swing the performance of your character to craft item dependent games like LOTRO where the best gear is usually crafted. That being said, the characters weren't as dependent on the gear as WoW. From the comments about WAR, it's more skill, tactics and teamwork so I seriously doubt it will be near as crucial. That being said, that may be why they are waiting. They probably can't figure out how to make crafting interesting or detailed in a 'non gear-dependent' and 'mostly about PvP' kinda game. I would think it'd be useful for helping carry or store more gear or placing stuff in your barracks (like EQ2). You know, convenience kinda stuff. Perhaps adding those personal touches to your armor/weapons requires going back to the barracks and modding your gear to add it, etc.

I have read quite a bit of the Warhammer novels and I'd say there are plenty of things to craft, but getting it into a PvP game is gonna be tough without expanding the PvE or 'hobby' portion of the game.

I hope the developers make it less needed than a group at level one.

I'm sorry but what follows in a MMO when professions dedicated to crafting are put in is nothing short of problems. I rather they concentrate soley on abilities and the RvR aspect ingame then a 500 hour Vanguard grind of broken wrists and bruised fingers.

There should be no major economy either in the game as far as I'm concerned because that in itself breeds a positive environment for the damn gold sellers (Asian,European and American) to bug the shit out of me with gold site spams. It also makes it where RvR gear becomes obsolete, because "Khaine forbid, the RvR gear is better than the crafted".

In short I hope crafting in this game is not a major factor when acquiring my gear (just a big ass time sink) and hope they will focus on gear obtained from me killing than sitting in a cubby hole having gold farmer x craft my sword of "12 platinum".

    P.S.

Crafting in Warhammer should be about as involved as "Guild War's" crafting system. You get your materials stick it in the NPC and then mod it the way you want. By no means and I reiterate, no means should there be dedicated crafting professions in this game, it's Warhammer not Crafthammer.

I certainly agree with the opinion about the crafting being similar to Guild Wars. Guild Wars is a great example of a good crafting system with not too much time put into it. One thing that i would like though, is to have crafting levels to go with the guild wars idea. All of the things you craft will obviously be contributed to 'the war' which is a good thing. This does not exclude gear for your character, because when you fight, you will be fighting for 'the war' so it WILL be contributing to the whole 'War' idea.

Pray it's not anything like the crafting MYTHIC developed for DAOC.

I heard that it will not be like WoW where you run around farming and then click a button and leave it on autorun for a few hours and come back to an inv full of products to sell on the AH.

They'll be trying to step away from the mindless time drain in the same way they are stepping away from the mindless healing.

I know that the fans don't like a comparison to WoW, but the WAR team are certainly looking at the failings of WoW as an influence of what to not have.

No offence but I think they're looking at their failings with Daoc in that regard. That was 10x worse than WoW ever was :)

In the video it sounds like the crafting system will be very much like the herb making process in morrowwind and Oblivion.

you put 4 crafting materials in a box and get something. The main ingrediant determines what you get and the other 3 boost various aspects of it.

For instance Healing Herb as the MI will alwaly make a healing poition. booster weeds, multipler weeds etc will boost the power of it and allow you to make more of the same kind w/ a single click.

another example could be that dwarf hide will alwalys make Dwarf Hide Tunic of ... where the 3 componetns determine the of part.
