Funcom Forcing players to play solo for the first 3-4 hours of they're existance may seem like a pain in the ass to start but in all reality it will curb all the in game advertising with 7 day free trials.

Im not sure what gold selling business would see it as profitable to stand there and spam selling gold for 2 minutes then spend 3-4 hours to get back to spam gold for 2 minutes.

This still allows a company to give out free trials but limits the abuse of them.

Single player mode isnt done offline, or so I hear. You still need a valid account to play it, which means you will still need to log in and connect to a server. Its entirely possible that you will be able to send tells and messages when in this mode. Not having people physically in your instance doesn't mean they arent reachable. The fact that you can transfer between day and night modes at will implies you are connected throughout the experience.

Has being in an instance in other games ever limited your ability to contact people outside the instance? Unless funcom specifically implements 'no pm'ing in this mode', I dont know if that will prevent anything.

Gold seller spam, chock full of bad grammar and  engrish

I would be willing to pay them all a dollar just to shut up.

Playing solo for the first few levels doesn't stop you from being able to talk to everyone in game, you can still chat globally.  And they don't force you to play solo, you only have to solo about the first 5 minutes then you can level all the way up to 20 in Tortage without doing a single solo quest.  It's only if you want to leave Tortage then you will need to finish the solo quest line.  People seem to have the wrong impression about soloing the first 20 levels...

pretty sure I read somewhere you couldn't communicate with anyone until its finished. Ill hafta look thru the logs I guess.

Banking on the fact that I think I read that you cant I still think its a good way to avoid needless spam

  • crmznoutlw16crmznoutlw16 Member Posts: 142

I'm positive that from level 1 you can communicate with whatever channel you wish whether it be from vicinity-global...So sadly, we'll have those spammers there from day 1.

  • ThomasBPGThomasBPG Member UncommonPosts: 86

Im pretty sure you cant because its single player there is no one around you.

I'm sure i read somewhere you couldn't even communicate with others until you hit the main land

Id look it up but I have no idea where to start seeing as there is just so much info out.

    Straight from the website.

6.1 Is there a single player portion to Age of Conan?

Yes. Part of the gameworld and story in Age of Conan will be focused on solo play, but you will always need to connect to our servers. However, even when you are playing alone in the single player portion of the game, you can communicate with your friends and players on the same server.

6.2 How does it all work?

Age of Conan is still a full-fledged MMO, but we’ve taken a lesson from other games out there and put together a limited single-player experience that, in some ways, plays out like a traditional RPG. When you first start out, you will be spending the first hour or so learning how to play, solving quests, and getting a feel for the game, and then you will make your way into the city of Tortage, where you will start seeing other players.

From here, you will be able to switch between the single-player story and quests and the multiplayer stories and quests freely. Once you reach level 20 (or thereabouts), you will leave Tortage and step into the massive MMO world that is always multiplayer.

6.4 How long will the single-player experience last?

Only the first hour or so of the game is completely single player. Once you reach the village of Tortage, you’ll be able to quest and interact with other players, or you can switch to the single player quests and stories. Once you’ve finished the Tortage story arc, you will head for the mainland, and from there on, you will be in the standard massively multiplayer environment.

this wont stop gold sellers. SWG has a noobie zone you must complete before you leave to the main game, but it just takes the gold seller a little longer to get there.

The most critical part that will dictate the intrusion of gold sellers is the game economy. And we know very little about it at this point in time.

I'm actually looking forward to the single player element. I really like the idea of it.

I'm also interested in the checking out the solo content.  I want to go through all of Tortage solo if I can, atleast, for the first character.

Knocking out the Destiny quests so I can get more quest from Conan, himself, is a high-point in the Ip, too.

EDIT-  As for gold sellers I wonder if we can spend a weeknight or two, on FFA servers, ganking the hell out of them. ...They should add server prizes for this.
