Is there a sequel or anything to Planetside?
Ok let me start at the begining, I used to play Planetside, and Star Wars Galaxies and was an avid player of both. Currently, i'm only playing EQ2, but i also own Guild Wars, Eve Online and Tabula Rasa (all of which my wife plays, but i've played TR a few times).
I want to find a new game for myself. If my wife will enjoy it as well, more power to her, but this is mostly about me (She likes the games she plays), i'm just sick of EQ2. I tried WoW and LotR, but i do NOT want to play any more 'swords and sorcery' type RPG's unless its a vast difference from what i'm doing.
In EQ2 I'm a raider in a raiding guild, so i like 'end game content' BUT i really just want a 'addictive/fun' game. Right now i'm re-downloading Planetside because I am so sad theres nothing else like it (and the reason i had stopped was populations dwindled so much that i finally couldnt take it anymore).
I looked to see if there was any kind of "Planetside 2" coming out (despite the website, which looked nothing like a legit site so i think it wasnt), but there doesnt appear to be. Huxley looks nice but doesnt come out till 09 (if thats the only one, then sure ill go with that probably), and Warhammer looks fun but i dont know if its going to be 'different' enough to make me want to play it any not just play EQ2.
What i liked about Planetside, was that it was 'skill based' but also had character advancement RPG style with certifications and then when they added them, medals. I loved the indoor and outdoor combat (vehicles ruled, but BFRs ... not so much), but like i said in the end the population lowering is the reason i stopped playing (well that, and i hated BFRs for a long time).
Long story short, is there a Planetside2 ever coming, and if not is there any game out (or coming out), that you guys think would be a good fit? It doesn't have to be an FPS (actually i normally don't LIKE FPS'), i just like that what i did mattered more than some random rolling of in game dice determining hit/miss and damage.

Im afraid that I have not heard of any sequal to Planetside nor anything Planetside-ish coming down the pike. HOwever, I do know that a lot of people who are burning out on the current crop of MMORPGs (mainly WoW) are really enjoying going 'retro' to games they played in the past. IN the sci-fi genre the choices are limited and it appears youve hit the main ones (My main suggestion would have been EvE online). You may want to try out DAOC, ON the crowded Classic servers.

As much as people hate sony... SWG and planetside where my 2 alltime favorite MMOs.. PERIOD. But i dare not go back to SWG, it is ruined and on training wheels... Planetside doesnt have enough fights, someday though I may resub for some fun times. But really those games gave 110% greatness when they where newer and not being screwed over. I really miss the good ol' days when there wherent hardly any CR5's, being able to start HUGE raids on continents was awsome... you litteraly had sway on your entire ZERG if you where CR5 and was highup in a wellknown outfit... Was also awsome to unlock jedi after forever of proffession mastering... back in the day where there was no such thing as a "free holocron" then after you finally got jedi, it would be impossible to explain how tough it would be JUST to get the first skill block. but yah if u ever really miss those great games and wish they had like a "planetside2" just remember, it couldnt hurt to go back to the origional, planetside is still a pertty game in todays standards. unles you are grafix nut
Well.. there are a few games you can play. Theres Air Rivals, for is only a "wisp" game, If you get my idea ;-)
Theres a nice chinese game, looks really cool, like a "BF2142"-mmoish. I forget the name 4512 or something. But as a chinese game, the server are on the far est, and is hard to get a invite ( stuff in chinese). I don't know you, but I don't speak chinese.
Maybe you sould play something else for a while. Like BF2, or TF2. Theres very small to nothing on the character development, but is a fun game you jump there, and have fun.
You could always return to Planetside, and play that. Maybe more people will return, and the game will continue evolving. Look at Anarchy Online, game can continue and get new stuff, in a good way, and maybe reinvent itself. Look at these DX10 screenshots of LoTRO, a game with new highres textures looks like a new game. Who knows? maybe the Planetside dudes get some time to make high res version of the textures, and shaders for water, and you get a wonderfull looking Planetside. Some optimizations on netcode, and changes, and making farter the view distance, and you could get something awesome. Planetside don't look like can do this trick, but is feasible.
You could also ignore the elves crap, and play DAOC, the way is described by people here on the forums, seems have a interesting PvP (Siege the keep)

Looks like a reskinned planetside. Nothing else even close that I have heard of that is Planetside-ish.
