I have tried WOW here and there whenever they have free trials and for the most part before this last time, I could never get into that much. But after playing COH/COV, Vanguard, Star Wars and LOTR all in the spoan on 1 year, I decided to give WOW one last shot. I'm so glad I did, I don't always have hours to spend playing or LFGing so I enjoy the fact that I can solo. Sure the game has it's faults but what MMO doesn't? I've played many and they all have some kind of problem. All in all I'm enjoyinh my time in WOW right now.

Glad to hear you are enjoying the game. Some of the new content has made it easier to get into PvP at higher levels now too with basic PvP gear available from faction vendors and some meaning added to open PvP in areas like Nagrand in the outlands with daily quests.
Have fun.
It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.
Wow is the best MMO in the world, every non-wowers (including me) are ignorant jerks. All praises to blizzard.
Welcome back
Currently WOW is the best PVE game on the market. HOwever, for PvP I think there are better choices. But when you put all aspects of a MMORP together, WoW is the best.

I am on round 2 with WoW, too actually; I restarted my old account after a 10 month absence. I had previously played for 2 and a half years, and simply burned out. After 10 months of trying numerous other MMOs (of which only Guild Wars was truly great....but I've been playing GW since it was released, too) I finally broke down and tried Vanguard.
Thanks to Vanguard, I decided I had three choices: become aluddite and cast my PC in to the river; burn my eyes out with hot pokers, or go back and give WoW another shot.
I decided I'd rather play WoW again and appreciate just what a well-run, properly funded game looks and feels like. I'll probably stick with WoW now until either Conan or Warhammer come along and (hopefully)provide a decent gaming experience.....but nothing like playing a load of really bad MMOs to really make you appreciate a smooth, well-oiled machine like WoW, lemme tell ya!
Current MMOs: Rift, GW2, Defiance

I had high hopes for Vnguard but after playing for a few months, I just couldn't play anymore!

If you base "WoW is the best MMO" on Fun Factor and accessibility WoW wins hands down.
If you look for the game play elements and depth that a traditional MMORPG has i would say Everquest 2 beats WoW hands down.
Same here. I tried a couple of times and hated it. Played LOTRO till i got to lvl 40 and bored. Tried wow again and loved it! what really got me into it was the burning crusade starting zone for the paladin, it was very polished. Previously i started as a human/alliance. the starting zone felt weak, so i was misled. the game is awesome with huge zones.
I can't enjoy WoW myself. The reason is simple. I log in and I start immediately thinking about the raiding endgame.
LOL, I quit on day 1, and never could even consider it back. I despite raiding THAT much. It must end in grouping/soloing/whatever I can enjoy.

Anofayle: Heroic instances, battlegrounds, arenas, and daily quests are all very viable and popular, alternatives to end game PvE raiding. Also World PvP - many claim it doesn't exist, but you just have to head over to where people are farming rares such as motes for primals and there's never a dull moment.
As for the thread, coming from EQ, it also took me a few attempts to 'get' WoW. It's a deceptively simple game, and it takes a long time to fully appreciate just how much depth and choice you have. In EQ all I could do was grind AA or raid. The casual-PvP aspect of WoW alone makes logging in feel a lot less like work, like it did in EQ.
You just need to be open minded. Players of EVE will tell you to stick with that game, because it takes a long time to learn the ropes, WoW should be afforded that consideration as well - because despite being accessible, it has to grow on you before you become really addicted.
IMO of course.
Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...
i just came back this week aswell wb
that said,
you can play any mmo and * not raid *
I play both WOW and EQ2, they both have endgame Raiding -- but I raid in neither game
Play the MMO for what its worth to you -- then move on and maybe come back later

Welcome back to WoW

Actually WoW isn't really any more expensive than a single player game. Before I started paying a monthly fee of $15 for WoW, I would purchase a new game for about $50 maybe every 2 or 3 months and I think that's pretty much the average. I've actually spent less money on video games since I started playing WoW. And the great thing about WoW is that I can play it as either a single player game or multi-player game whenever I choose.

PvE = cooperative play. Not single player. Yes, you can solo to level, but all of the good items and quests involve parties.

i messed up this post. Do over!
I have played every "traditional" MMORPG. They are not that great, and of them, only EQ comes close to being deeper than WoW. EQ2 is actually one of the shallower games I have ever played.
You do not have to raid, ever, even at the highest levels. There are plenty of people who play WoW and do not like raiding, so you can find groups to do normal instances all the time. Or you can solo at ANY level.
It makes no sense to stop playing a game based on what you "think" the end will be like, especially if your assumptions are based on misinformation.

Agreed Recant.
MMOs killed the single player game experience for me. Although I tend to solo, I still greatly enjoy playing with or against other players.

Oh, cruel fate, to be thusly boned. Ask not for whom the bone bones. It bones for thee.

Not true. If you don't grind-raid, you cannot enjoy PvP content cause your gimp.

This was the case some years ago but Blizzard have long since fixed this. PvP and PvE are now pretty damn seperate. To compete in PvP nowadays you need resilience which is not obtainable from raids, only from the battlegrounds, world PvP objectives (hellfire, auchidon, halaa etc) or the arena.

To add, the grind isn't nearly as bad as it once was.

Not completely true anymore either. Patch 2.4 added gear with resilience from the faction NPC's by gaining Honored rep with Honor Hold, Cenarion Expedition, Kuranei, Lower City and Keepers of Time. All you have to do is complete quests in the appropriate areas and it's extremely easy to get to honored reputation now with these factions. It's superior quality, not epic, but not bad starter gear for entry into PvP and once you start playing a bit of PvP, then epic quality gear is fairly easily obtained. It's easier now than ever to get into PvP and anyone who complains about not having the gear is either misinformed or just plain lazy.
When I look back on WoW I think of raiding, playin grabass in wsg, and standing around in front of ques. Oh and don't forget instant teleports everywhere so we can avoid playing in the actual world.
