RAM question...

DraccanDraccan Member Posts: 1,050

is there a difference between:

Corsair XMS3 DHX 2 x 2 GB

2 x 2 GB (4 GB) / DUAL RAM / DDR3 SDRAM / PC3-12800CL9 / 1600 MHz

http://www.edbpriser.dk/Products/Lis....asp?ID=436019

and

G.Skill 2 x 2 GB

2 x 2 GB (4 GB) / DUAL RAM / DDR3 SDRAM / PC3-12800CL7 / 1600 MHz

http://www.edbpriser.dk/Products/Lis....asp?ID=434586

because the g.skill one is like twice as expensive as the one from Corsair...???

edit:

in fact what is there a difference between:

http://www.komplett.dk/k/ki.aspx?sku=339300

Corsair TWIN3X 1600MHz DDR3, 4GB, DHX, Kit w/two 2GB XMS3 modules, CL7-7-7-20

and

http://www.komplett.dk/k/ki.aspx?sku...B-BB3EEB25CF18

Corsair TWIN3X 1600MHz DDR3, 4GB, DHX, Kit w/two 2GB XMS3 modules, CL9-9-9-24

very different prices

probably silly rookie questions

thinking of getting a 790i motherboard and 9800 graphics card and some quadcore CPU and assembly my own pc..

not in english so I can't say for sure, but the more expensive one lately has better time which reduces latency, which is a good thing.  Sometime it's just brand same though.

     CL7-7-7-20

    and CL9-9-9-24?

both have similar stats and are both 4 gb corsairs, ddr3 etc... so what does those two stats represents?

Its the memory timing.  To simplify it, Its better for the first 3 numbers to be low, and the last number to be high.  However, the performance difference is marginal.  You also have to remember, that DDR3 is splitting memory through 3 different paths.  So the effective timing is 1/3rd what is shown.

Memory Timing usually isn't important unless you are overclocking your system.

Spot on. If you aren't planning on OC'ing your system, the cheaper ones will definately be the best buy.
