sence they said "if you buy our CE of the game we will give u a beta pass" and i thought...well thats cool.
thing is is 80$ worth it for some of u. the game looks amazing, and i used to play the actual figure game a while back (go ELDAR 40k) its were i even got my semi stuck nickname "Keebler" cause i played them and after my friend called me that i built a cookie factory w/ a tree out the middle to play on.
i really wanna get into beta, and i think this game will rock, but is it worth the big drop of cash for the set of extras? the ingame stuff, il probly use some, the art book, wel lit would just sit there, and i would probly skim the story book, just to get into the mood. also the model id just plop on a shelf and probly never look at.
have any of u here debated buying it (mainly) for the beta?

First of all, you are allowed access to OPEN beta, not closed beta. The open beta phase has not been announced and is usually one or two weeks before release (gamestop is guessing October). However, the CE is only $30 more dollars than the original game so if you think you'll really be itching to play before release I say go for it. The price difference will equal probably 2 months of play - just depends on how bad you want to get started. If you got the money, might as well.
I will not be going into open beta/buying the CE. In fact, I won't be there at release. I always wait for a good month so they can work out the simple issues (with the common "oh shit we forgot to do this patch" a month after release).
WHEN DID CREATIVITY DIE
Acutally access to Beta was the main reason I bought the CE. I'm still sceptical about this game. Is sounds amazing from the podcasts but I haven't seen any gameplay to back it up. I'm up in the air between WAR and Conan. <Mod edit> Conan is amazing but if WAR can deliver everything they say about the game then I'll go with WAR. So $80 is a lot of money but finding out if the game is worth playing over the long run is worth it. Being a limited run on the CE I'm sure I can find someone to buy it if I do not like the game, unopened of coarse. So spending $30 extra to find out if this is the MMORPG I want to paly isn't that big of a deal to me. But I feel pain of everyone who signed up for Beta and are still waiting.
I did buy it mainly for beta. The extra stuff is just icing on the cake. If you don't like the artbook or figurine I am sure you can ebay them for a tidy sum of cash to those that want them, at least enough to pay off the extra $30 to get the CE.
As for when Open beta and etc occurs. I would assume they would open it up to the CE, Contest winners, and newsletter winners a month or two ahead of time. They already have the head start thing which could be up to a week before actual release(3 days is more likely).
Its open beta...they're not doing a general everyoen gets in Open Beta like games in the past have done. Closed Beta testers, contest winners, & CE purchesees get into Open beta. Please repair the name of your thread it makes it seem as if we're paying to get into Closed Beta ahead of all the people who have been waiting since last year (like myself.)
I'm more interested in the Head STart than the Open beta but then I've been following the game for 2 years and never judge a game on combat videos since thats just plain retarded.

the topic says "beta" and not spicificly wich one.
and as you have seen everyone is thinking omg you can pay to get into closed beta which has in the past been a hot topic of unworthiness. Please specify which Beta otherwise I consider this an ill attempt at trouble making.
If you really want to play WAR..if you have been following WAR the extra 30 dollars is worth it. If your a Warhammer collector the 80 dollars is worth it. I how ever think its silly of people to waste a collector's edition pre order & spend 80 bucks just to play open beta when they could simply wait for free trials after the first year or player reviews.
They could of left out the open beta access and I'd of still gotten the CE simply because of the in game extra's like the quests, titles, trophies, and the special faces (loves customizing).

I would just like to point out some numbers to you:
Non-CE edition = ~$40 on release.
Monthy sub = ~$20 (max estimate)
So, within the first year you would have paid around $250. For each additional year it will be an extra $200.
When you consider that sum, the extra $40 for an amazing CE of a game that is going to be HUGE, seems really quite insignificant.
Plus, as pointed out, it Open Beta access, not closed - so you still won't be able to play until about a month before release.
The only differences between the closed and open betas is the that open beta will have more players and won't be covered by a NDA. Besides that Open will still require an invite from Mythic.
Games I've Played: WoW, FFXI, SWG, CoH, EVE Online
Games I'm Waiting for: WAR, Stargate Worlds
And you don't necessarily have to purchase the CE; you only have to preorder it. I preordered mine and got my codes, but I could cancel my preorder at any time. (I'm not going to because this CE is fucking amazing) But you get my drift.
I wouldn't pay 80$ just to get into Open Beta , which btw isnt guarenteed for none of you unless you buy that CE since the Open Beta is still based on your "applications" and not just click , get key , download and install.
And War is no more like a WoW clone, other than that i can't comment on anything else since i'd be breaking the NDA
List of SOE lies
79.99 for the CE
49.99 for the regular edition
So 30 dollars gets you open beta , 3 day early headstart , 128 page graphic novel , 224 page hardback artbook , multiple bonus items and in game items , and a miniature that alone would cost 8-10 dollars if bought separately
I find that a pretty good deal considering you wiil be able to sell that artbook on Ebay for 30 bucks alone to Warhammer fans who missed out on it -
If 30 bucks is going to break the bank for folks they dont need to be playing a 15 dollar a month game to begin with
Believe it or not, some people find it easier to come up the 15-20 dollars a month then it is to come up with 80 bucks at one time to buy the CE. Personally, I'm gonna wait for a trial and try it out. Then if I like it I will pay for the regular version at the store. Not like the little extras are going to be game breaking for you or the stuff become highly collectible.
The CE is just another one of those frigging tricks publishers use to get more money out of you and tbh all these in game extras shouldn't be there and the other extras in the box should be optional to buy on a online store somewhere, not that anyone would buy them because who wants crap art made in photoshop?
Soon EA will want to add some sorta micro trasaction thing to the game where you can buy your way to the top.
I don't agree with that at all
I think the Graphic novel and Art book are easily worth the additional 30$
I don't consider it "Crap Art" the WAR concept art is very good actually.
I wont claim outright that WAR will not have any micro transactions as it is fairly standard now for mmo companies to have paid server transfers or paid character name changes. But I seriously doubt there will be any kind of micro transaction that gives you an edge vs other players.
Tricks - a nice hardback artbook is worth 30 bucks alone to many folks - apparently you don't understand that there are a lot of Warhammer IP fans out there that enjoy collecting anything GW puts out - many put 10-20 dollars for one single metal figure for the tabletop - just because you cannot grasp that concept or appreciate it doesn't make it a "trick"
You are so wrong with you "not that anyone would buy them" it shows how little of Warhammer or GW you know about
Beta tests are not early previews of the game and people that approach them with that mindset are the loudest critics of a game. A game in beta is not final release code. There are bugs in mechanics, graphics, balance etc etc etc.
As for the other extras in the box, meh. it's not like in 20 years it will be worth anything, especially since the box has to be opened in order to get the codes for the game and for beta.

It's nothing to do with Warhammer or GW it's a stupid trend that keeps on increasing because it makes publishers more money as they know people wont want to buy the gimped cheaper version as you don't get the extra in game content. It's like the 360 core and premium packages.
Also I don't believe Warhammer fans care too much about art for the game of Warhammer Online and I don't believe the hardcore fans of warhammer even care about the mmorpg in the first place seeing as it's nothing like Warhammer the table top.
I don't know, when they actually announced the Warhammer mini of Grum and Gaz, I went ahead and got two of them. I think the art and the customization/special items ingame is a bonus, but if I decided to sell that mini (after painting) I'm most assured to get atleast $50 for it (that's a big if I sell it).
I also consider myself a "hardcore" lover of the "TT" seeing as I own 3 armies totaling at a price of almost $1500.00
As far as people ordering the game based on a chance to get into "open" beta, I totally think they are idiots. They would have been better ordering the BOOM comic book for a chance at closed beta or to gander at the game's development. "my opinion anyways".
You obviously arent' familiar with the concept of Fan Service. CE's are Fan Service. They aren't 'tricks' people don't run out and buy a CE game because its a 'collectors' item they run out and buy it because they're 'fans' and for 80 bucks they're die hard fans. Any industry that survives off 'fandom' uses 'fan service' as a way to acknowledge those that are so dedicated. Granted there are 'fans' that are fanbois and see no wrong or harm in anything but its been like that since the dawn of time with starwars, star trek, etc etc.
Just because YOU only have new interest in the game but arent' a 'FAN' of the Warhammer world doesn't mean you have the right to come along and claim CE's are evil and should be abolished and trample everyone else's fun. You said your peice on your own thread stop trolling your agenda around its annoying. Don't want the CE? Don't Buy it.
When I'm fan of something I enjoy it when there's some sort of fan service. I guess thats just me though ... I'm a geek and a gamer and I admit that I like it when companies whether its movies, anime, or games give some fan service. Does it show they care beyond the want to make money? No but its nice to know they think about something cool they can give fans even if it costs us money rofl.

*grins* People used to say Picasso and Monet made crap art too. Sure wish I owned some of that crap art.
I love when the kids CRY about a business making money. How dare they try to make money off of me!!!!! Such treachery!
Look here kids. You keep demanding that MMO's innovate, but you don't want them to make money. Some people actually have the nerve to think they should charge just enough to break even. How the hell do you think innovation happens? Do you think it is free for them to try new things? If they don't make money, they don't take future risk. If they don't take risk, they don't innovate. If they don't innovate, you don't get new games. Stop crying foul when a business does EXACTLY what it should do. Make money.
Ha why has every single launch I have been part of had someone or other complaining about having to "pay for beta access"? I'm sure its been said above.. but no one pays anything for beta access. The CE just happens to include a code as an extra goodies, and it is probably not usable until near the end of beta anyway, so doesn't really matter.
I'd trade my AoC beta for a WAR beta in a heartbeat. Been in AoC for almost a year but I havent put much time into it haha
