Not the best of starts. Heard nothing but bad things about this game but the features seem so cool and I need a timesink to last me until Age of Conan comes out.
Bought the game last night from Gamestop. Loaded it on my computer. Activation Key seems to be missing. Only key I found was the buddy key.
Comments
Have not purchased V:SOH, but Sony has been putting the Keys on a small, white sticker inside the plastic disk case. Sometimes behind where the CD/DVD are placed.
Have a look inside the case.
Good Luck
Thats bad luck. i kno when i buy a game i get very impatient if something goes wrong and stops me from playing it right away. hopefully its wehre the above poster said it was lol. good luck
for standard edition:
It should be on the backside of the manual.
For collectors edition:
There should be a playing card that says "Eila the Crafter", "???? the Adventurer" or "???? the Diplomat". The account key is on the bottom of that card and that card decides what reward cloak you get (like a crafting cloak with extra utility storage).
OP, you may need to look around a bit.
What happend? Did you get your Code and logged on? How is the state of the game?
Logged in 2 days ago. I have not played for months. Just logged in once in a while. 20 minutes patching.
Performance is actully ok. Still some stuttering when the client is loading NPC or environmental things like carts, walls and such.
Real news is, that shaman are able to change their pet. Actually you dont have any pet after logging in. You have to see a trainer. Its possible to swap patron multiple times. I had no idea and asked in general chat on Kojan. There are people in game and i got a fast answer.
They fixed some animations. Swim animation is fixed.
I took a flying mount and it was ok. Soft take off and a save landing The chunkborder didnt cause a crash landing It was smooth enough to enjoy the view.
The model revamp is not good. My vulmane looked like he always did, but my woodelf and my kojan human female look butchered if you zoom in. They removed polygons. The eyes of humanoids look weird. I am aware they are operation on the smallest dev team possible, but the faces of the humanoids are somewhat disfigured.
Another thing was (on my PC) that spikes growed out of the hands of many NPC. Its a glitch.
I havested one node and it droped a dust. I think thats a good thing that dusts are more common and available. Not enough players for a hardcore decon economy i guess. The prizes on the broker are also lower compared to my last visit.
I probably wanted to explore a bit more of Telon but the eyes of my woodelf and the "dead" face of my kojan human haunted me a bit.
Thanks for the replies. Actually, I took the game back to Gamestop yesterday and they couldn't find the key either. Unfortunately, that was the only one available at that store so they had to refund me and send the game back 'defective'. I'd have bought it through Sony but Gamestop sells it for 20 bucks while Sony sells it for 40 bucks. I may stop by another store. Even if the game is dead and I can expect to occasionally lock up based on posts on this website, I still think the features are unique enough to give it a try.
Why don't you just go on ebay ? You can pick up the 100 dollar collectors edition for 10 bucks now. It has all the goodies and a bunch of buddy keys. If you are interested in this game you would be crazy to pass that up. Even if you did the free 30 days and didn't like it, you are out, what, 10 bucks???

Any chance I could buy your buddy key from you?
Luckly EB Games had another box there and said just come down and exchange it . they where totally great about it

I must not be playing this game correctly. I have been playing since beta and yes the game was bad but now it is very good. I have not had crashes to desktop, my characters look normal, patches load in minutes not hours and the NPC areas load quickly. I have regular DSL and I have a PC with a single video card so that must be the reason I do not have all the bad things that have been associated with this game. I hope you will still play this game because it is playable and is the most challenging.

I had no crashes, but I have had some "ugly" graphics issues....the game felt lifeless and boring...I have a Cable connection and an 8800GT, 3 gigs of ram and an E6600 dual Core...
Maybe my computer was too powerful?
I checked into the Ebay deal but cost with shipping was just about the same as spending 20 bucks for the game at Gamestop. I went to another gamestop today, made them open and show me the key. :P
I've been patching for the last 2 hours. Four more hours to go.
Anyone have advice on which server is the most crowded? I'd really like to see other people playing and be able to tell my friends that its not totally dead.
Based on messages from the patch, looks like they just did a big update with bug fixes, class fixes, and extra content.
Lastly, I think I'd really enjoy being a pscionistcrowd (control, group buffs) but would need to be able to group with people to do that, looks like. So, I'm trying to figure out which race would be ideal; I'd hate to pick a race and end up in a country with no players. Also, I usually play a healer but thought I'd be a little selfish and look at the sorcerer(nuker) this time around.
Anyway, I am on the EU server and its always has people around, don't know about US servers. Seredon I believe is the main one.
I only played a Psion to level 5 or 6 (I am an alt maniac) very interesting class.
Here is the stat table, there are a few races that would be a good choice.
Goblins for VIT, High Elves for WIS and Gnomes for INT. Other races do pretty well also, I played a Raki.
Other then that, the starter areas are fairly empty depending on where you go. Just hop into general chat. There are plenty of people they are just spread out over a gigantic world. There is a search feature for guilds / groups / whatever...similar to EQII.
If you have a friend who is interested give him the buddy key, the game is more fun in small groups IMHO. You don't need huge groups 2 or 3 is enough. (IMHO) Until you raid of course, if you are even into that.
Just remember there is more to VG then whacking mobs...try the Crafting and Diplomacy. Look into houses all that sort of thing. Rent a Griffon for a quick ride...

Huh ? Did i say something about crashes or endless patches ?I played on a 4600 64+ EEx2 and a 1900GT. Not really an uber PC. The game runs well on it.
Maybe its my PC or the drivers of the video card, but the revamped human models have "ugly" glitches around their eyes. It doesnt look like a pro's job. Very undertstandable, because they work with only a handful of developers.
Actually i think SOE holds the codebase for one of the best sandboxes possible. But the term "codebase" means that this game needs to be shut down, completely rebuild and re-released with a new name and gameplay. A game with decay and crafted items only, a real sandbox with experimental crafting. All the stuff a 3rd gen sandbox should have. Something like a merge of UO, SOR and SWG. But that would mean SOE has to throw in a few millions money. I am not a SOE hater, but recently i think this company has no gaming vision anymore.
I totally play this game zoomed in on my human ranger's eyes all the time (insert sarcasm anywhere). honestly I am too busy looking at the good animations of my toon while fighting, crafting, harvesting, etc and the beautiful landscape to pay much attention to my toon's eyes.... could be just me though.
"For a wounded man shall say to his assailant, 'If I live, I will kill you. If I die, You are forgiven.' Such is the rule of honour..."
Been there, done that. When i played i had three crafters in their late 20ies. I used my own armors, my own weapons and i sailed the oceans on my own build boat. Builded a house on a sunny kojan island. I have been in love with the kung-fu animations of monk and disciple. I even maintained a mod. I left for my own reasons.
I guess i have a right to check out the model revamp a bit closer. Although its visible from further away on my woodelf female. Those helmets i saw looked silly too. I have doubts that the revamp was worth the few fps. Crafter area in Tanvu still has massive lag and i never bothered about 38 or 45 fps in de wilderness.
Played it during the weekend for a bit. Was laggy. Asked around and they said the weekdays were better. Only four servers. Reminded me of EQ but with new races/chars/story. Char creation could be a bit better; when I log on, my choice for char is a black block with bold white text showing the char name, class, and server. Starting in game, I thought to myself how nice WoW was in that you flew over the area you were starting in real game time.
I'm primarily interested in that Diplomacy skill but just hit lvl 5 and don't see in-game where it starts, yet.
My char's name on Seradon is Uppity, Gnome Sorcerer. But, I'm much more likely to play a pscionist if I can find a guild that plays/raids 8AM to 4PM EST. After playing a char to lvl 5, deleting, repeat 2 more times, I am starting to figure out how things work and am enjoying it.
I was really surprised at the lack of lag and the playability/performance that I'm getting out of it; playing on another similar type computer during the weekend was pretty laggy/unplayable to me. Either way, I haven't experienced any bugs/crashes yet. So, glad I bought it!
I don't know what US server pops are like off peak but like in most games, its probably a little weak especially on weekdays.
Just a thought.
