As any follower of this site will know I have been backing this title for sometime,Anyway it is a little dishearting after all this time it seems the devs and publishers want the public(i.e us)to hype this game rather than them.
It has been brought up quite a few times in the offical forums asking when they will hype the game,After soooo many posts were ignored I sent a pm to 1 of the CM's,The response I got was "it is not our job to hype the game, that is upto the publisher"..ok that is fair enough, except maybe for the fact, that same CM asked the forum member to hype this game on this forum just 1 day before, also if you goto the offical website of the publisher they are still pushing there speedball 2 game and not this 1.
Also the CM did say"we have also said we will not hype the game till open beta"again fair enough but why ask a forum member that only goes by the concept of the game and what information they are allowed to hype the game if the makers of the game wont hype it themselves?
I am alittle dishearted by this course the devs are taking,to me you either love your game or not..and you either want to hype it or not!!
I hope the devs are being smart and not foolhardy, only time will tell.
If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

At the TCoS site they had some hype about being the game of the week here at mmorpg.com. Not sure what week that was? or will be? because I really did not see much here more than usual. Maybe it is still an upcomming week?? kind of sad.
A few thoughts being on the outside and not being in closed beta or working for TCoS. We lack information. Also, NDA is around and nobody wants to blow it or give info that could be changed. Somewhere along the line tho they (TCoS/Frogster) are going to need to market more aggressively, or just plain market. Seeing as how there is no date for EU release they might not want to market today and hype a game and have to also say "be patient". Also, no US publisher. Short of a gun to their heads you wont really get a date for release. Even then release is subject to change.
Stuff along those lines makes me get the feeling that in the US we will be lucky to see the game by christmas. I am with you. I think TCoS will be an entirely new and fun player combat driven mmo. I also think that when the owners/publishers do market more we will be closer to playing. To do that many months out might backfire. Too many have waited for years and there is some energy about the delay in many posts. So I may play something else in the mean time. I am sure the hype will come, and hopefully the game not long after.
So why do you want to hype it?
You and another few tens of thousands people know the game. If it is a good game, it is good enough.
I am pretty sure that most of the 10mil WoW players didnt see any marketing when they start playing it, but it succeeded in getting big nummrs. There was maybe alot of marketing at your place, but where I am from, it was hardly nothing.
And the fact that nobody wants to blow its NDA, and get banned, isnt that saying enough?
I think the developers are being wise as to not hype it up after the string of MMOs that were touted as WoW killers or the next best thing since sliced (whatever you like here). And they all either flopped or totally failed. In any case, they are right: they're programmers and not PR kids. So, it's great that they're not trying to do something they don't have the skill, let alone the time, to do. The more they focus on the game the better it will probably be.

Why hype a game? lets see, people like myself, lord bachus and ravel to name a few have been posting on this forum about the game and getting people to notice,How many people never heard of the game until they read such posts are now following the game?
WoW did have alot of hype and advertising(at least it did here),I agree word of mouth is what sold that game, but lets be honest NO game will ever be like WoW again.
People are breaking the nda,you wont see it on this site as mmorpg.com are very strict on this and will delete any post that does break it,unlike some other forums that seem to encourge it.

Ironically, I first found out about Spellborn through a WAR forum
And yeah the hype has been very low. I can't even find the game on the publisher's website!

It's not really strange that a CM wants people to advertise his game.

lol.... the title "TCoS, hype, and you" made me think this could be a "group session". So let me share with the group:
I remember xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx in xxxxxxx xxxxx. It was the first time I've actually xxxxxxxx anything, coming from a poor rural family in the deep south. I had just sold our second house chair to buy a new game for christmas, but held off because of this xxxxxxxxxxxxx. When xxxxxxxxxx finally came and still no xxxxxxxxxx, i was crushed, and feeling very depressed and un-entertained. The promised xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx made me think that if I ever did get xxxxxxxxxxxxxx, it would be for only a couple of xxxxxxxx. I went ahead and spent my chair money on booze. When it finally xxxxxxxxxx, it was the xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx ever seen. Knowing it was not going to really xxxxxxxxxxxxx to at least xxxxxxxxxxxx, I reformed myself through a jesus (can leave that correct?) infusion and have since gotten over my mmo addiction. (but I'm still un-entertained).
Edited: for legal reasons, at Thatim's request... (thanks for the heads up)
oh yea, and the point being....
it's better to not hype at all than to hype and not deliver.
(hope this helps the forum).
And what did you excpect? In a closed beta? A smooth finished game? They need you to test the game to hunt bugs, not to play the game for you fun.
It is normal that a game has alot of bugs in its 4th year of development.
Another deleted post,
I'm out of control.
ps sorry forum mods .

This story made me very xxxxxxxx...
Are you saying that was my mistake?
Sorry if you take it this way. And I dont mean YOU where trolling again, but the general dude who is saying the hype / marketing sucks. I think you are loooking at the TCoS forums much too, and you probaly know what I mean. I try to delete those posts after this post, because I dont think I am contributing anything to the conversation, except trolling myself.
Sorry guys!
For the Oracle?
Are you saying that was my mistake?
Yes, it most likely was your mistake.I mean, seriously, even the most recent beta for Age of Conan used an older version of the game for the testing. The graphics I was playing with didn't look anything like the newest videos that have been released. But that's because they were testing PvP, not how many seizures you can have after viewing their stellar graphics.
It all depends on what they're testing. They don't need polished graphics to test a combat system or how a server does with a certain amount of people logged in.
