AGP problems

Psym0nPsym0n Member UncommonPosts: 283

I just got my new laptop, but I can´t seem to find the geforce 8600gt 512mb card in it.

The laptop keeps using the standard agp that is integrated in the motherboard.

Any tips on how to solve this?

You surely have a Support contact number you can call.

Pretty standard for any new computer or any electronic component for that matter.

if a support number was not provided you probably got screwed.....

Are you ready to potentially break your laptop?

    1. Go to Start
    2. Right Click My Computer and Select Properties
    3. Click the Hardware Tab and then the Device Manager Button
    4. Click the [+] Next to Display Adapters
    5. If it says GeForce 8600, then you are using it.  If it says Standard VGA, then you are not.
    6. If it does say standard VGA then something is wrong.  Its probably a power issue.  I would contact the manufacturer.

Also you can try this method.

    1. Restart your laptop.  While it is booting open the bios.  Usually F8 or F2.
    2. I have no idea how your bios are setup, but if you explore it should have a section for your video device.
    3. It will give you options like Onboard, AGP/PCI-e, or PCI
    4. Set it to AGP/PCI-e.  This is the usual port for any video card.
