I am very concerned that Age of Conan will be limited in graphics, size, capabilities etc as an MMO because they have planned to release it on xbox in "2009"
xbox has no room for growth in hardware, it is non existant
Even if the pc version can run in higher res or with more features, I doubt they will add more power to the engine for pc users since it is being designed for xbox 360 in a 2009 launch
Why spend time and effort for PC users when you are planning to market it to xbox 360...
The move to put any MMO on a console is very disheartening, especially when it looks like it has so much promise on the PC.
Xbox was released in 2005. It is now 2008, and Age of Conan has been designed to work on xbox in 2009.
This is FOUR YEARS old techonology this engine is designed to run on. I know it supports DX10 from the ground up and it looks beautiful etc, but the current plan to design Age of Conan for an xbox release will really kill the main and core PC MMO gamers.
How many people own a PC compared to an xbox? Exactly. Why even limit your own MMO by catering to a 3-4 year old console hardware?
For those who own a PC and xbox, the PC is better in almost all regards in capability of hardware, customization, controls etc.
I just can not see a succesful MMO for PC being ported to xbox in mind...and if they are desiging age of conan to be a xbox360 game, then it will have have a ver bleak future for PC users.
I would like to hear your rational thoughts on this, I am not against xbox or consoles, I think they have their own capability and great games to offer, just an MMO should not be put on a 2005 console when released in 2009, hindering the PC players of the MMO.

I don’t fink AoC will be designed specifically to work on da Xbox. I DO fink dat it will likely to designed to be playable on olda systemz, as dis ensurez dat da game will reach a wide audience.
I dunno too much about PC-Console portin’ but I imagine it would be possible to reduce da graphical component without too much of a problem. Afta all, da adjustment between "low" an’ "ultra ’igh" graphic settingz in any new game is extremely noticeable.
From da screenshotz an’ videoz dat I’s seen, da graphicz look to be pretty good (for an MMO) .. I’d reserve judgement ’til da game actually comez out.
If I buy the PC version of AoC, and I have a 360... should I not get the software to play it on both should I chose?
Should I be required to purchase both versions of the software and pay 2 different monthly fees? Will I be able to play the account on both?
I should check the FAQ instead of asking here like a dumbass...

"When people tell me designing a game is easy, I try to get them to design a board game. Most people don't last 5 minutes, the rest rarely last more then a day. The final few realize it's neither fun nor easy."
Just wondering...didn't Final Fantasy do the same thing?...didn't seem to be too much of an issue for them. There are plenty of expansions n such on that game. So why would AoC be any different?
Yes the combat system seems designed for a console controller, it's pretty simple, but they have been smart enough to sell it as a more complex thing and many PC gamers are loving it.
Yes I know it's more complex than auto attack, but it's just pressing left if the shield icon is on the right, and right if the shield is on the left. Same with up and above. And I'm sure you won't have like 20-40 habilities to chose from like you have now in WOW for instance.
Final Fantasy XI did port to the PS2, and have expansions. But do any of them actually add gameplay features or just throw in new maps, monsters, skills, and classes? If they add a new feature it would have to be independant of the actual main gameplay because its limited by the PS2. Also map size, and texture res are also limited to the PS2.
’mm .. but is dis still true for da newa generation of consolez dat ’ave ’ard-drivez so could download updated content?
It wont work on XboX on minimal settings.
The game is too demanding.
They'll have to release a special client with cut down graphics or something.
Let me tell ya something.
The game client alone takes 26 gigabytes of space atm.
With 1 gigabyte of RAM its unplayable.
On a dual core 6300 with 7600GT video card its unplayabable in any crowded area.
Also you dont want to play this in minimal settings cause it looks very very bad.
If you planning on getting this game and you want to enjoy it you should
have at least 2 giga of RAM, an 8800GT, a dual core 6300+ and a fast hard drive cause it loads ALOT and often.
I am not worried. Some of the best games are released years after a console comes out. Like Conkers Bad Fur day for 64. I believe that game used 100% of the 64 and it was a great game.
The clickety clickety combat I've seen on the videos looks like it was designed for the xbox controllers.
just FYI, theyre developing the Xbox version along side of the PC. The PC version is not going to be ported to the 360. Theyre 2 different entities being handled by 2 seperate groups of developers.
when I was at dragon*con last year I spoke with the guys at Funcom (actually won an 8600GT from them) and asked several questions on the 360. It was made clear to me by them that they have no idea what to expect from the 360 version and that different folks were involved in developing it. It is currently being developed just as the PC version is
they also suggested that the 360 and PC platforms will not even operate on the same servers and the game itself will be specific to the 360 and PC.. completely seperate.
so, lets not jump to conclusions until you know more about what conclusions you're jumping to. mmkay?
"If you want a picture of the future, imagine a robot foot stomping on a human face -- forever."
I'm glad you mentioned this, however, they're not building a complete 360 version from the ground up and that is the definition of a port to 360.
No matter what you heard, the second team is only dealing with the pc coding transfer to 360 and the required code base optimization. The only differences between the two releases are graphic quality and code optimization for the respective platforms.
The delay in the 360 release is so the pc version can iron out most issues before they let the 360 version go gold. This is so it makes smaller patches for the 360 in the short term before game expansions.
Your right they're not going to play on the same servers at the same time but it's not because they're 2 different games.

Well AOC will be fine for xbox, all you have to do is spam your 1 attack button, it doesn't take skill.
Account has been stolen, why would someone want to steal my account?
Stop calling the Xbox 360 an Xbox. That's like refering to the Wii as a Gamecube. The Xbox 360 and the the Xbox are two completely different systems with completely different specs.
Now, I happen to have an xbox 360. It's not really so outdated as you say. Graphics and performance are still respectable, and probably will run some games better than the 'average' pc.
The pc version of AOC will be playable on a variety of hardware, ranging from average to hardcore most likely. But the Xbox 360 version only needs to be optimized for one system, which seems like an advantage to me.
At any rate Xbox 360 version may never even see the light of day. If it is ever released, I don't see how more choices for gamers can be bad for the industry as a whole. There are a lot of people who prefer the console over pc, merely because they don't want to wrestle with all the incompatibility issues and frequent/costly hardware upgrades.
I just want to ask the OP who like joined this site today why they thought it was neccessary to make two topics the same afer a minute of each other here? ??????/
Second thing Is the 360 version will included the PC Expansion package which they are just about to start making.
Third thing is the fact because its releasing (the 360 version with expac) they need 360 programmers which they are advertising for on Funcoms website.
Go Figure
It was made for PC and not 360, and whose to say what other consoles the game might be released on in the future. We are probably looking at a 2009 360 release imo.
Also, samjoo has no freakin idea
you're right, theyre not 2 different games. They will be identicle, however 2 different teams are developing the game like i said. Your definition of a port is not correct in this case. They are not taking a PC game and porting it to the xbox. Theyre designing the 360 game in conjunction with the PC game using the same principles and similiar programming in each of them. Theyre not waiting on the PC game to be complete and then porting it to the 360, no matter what YOU heard.
in other words, theyre not taking a PC game and re-designing it around a 360. Theyre developing the game completely seperate from one another and making it work on both platforms. I know it doesnt make much sense and its easier to say "theyre porting it to the 360". However, theyre not porting it in how you seem to believe.
as for what I underlined, I think I'll listen to Funcom and not some nobody on a game forum.
at the end of the day, the topic of this thread has been busted. theyre designing the game to operate completely on both systems and neither the 360 nor the PC will suffer because theyre not designing a single game on a single platform. theyre designing the game on both platforms and not porting it.

Terrenah, couldn't agree with you more.
The more diverse the platform release the better it is for the industry and the MMO community.
I only hope we can have our own servers based on platform for all future titles. So that we can go back to complaining amongst our respective preference groups, instead of uselessly trying to use the divide and conquer strategy, to gain favor within the gaming industry. That's helping no-one that actually likes games.
Avery, the expac info is recent news. Thx

I have to agree with Avery. Two hate threads that fast? Come on now. Hate threads are my job around here! Errrrrr, nvm.
Anyway, point is there is no need to worry about the XBox 360 version. Also, OP, I have no clue where you get they'd have seperate servers. Funcom still has not worked the servers issues out. Anyway, OP, we don't need any trolling.
And Avery, they are working on an expansion for AoC already? They is splitting the team and they need to get the game out the door before they start doing that or they are in trouble. Turbine tried that with DDO and we all know how that turned out. You never split a team before the baby is out the door.
Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

The feeling is mutual, and since there still after 360 programmers, it'll be based off the pc versions work but I do agree there's big difference between re-design and re-coding.

Everyone thought like that with regards to Brad McQuaid, Sigil, and VanguardSoH and we all know how that turned out. Listening to and relying on companies is a very bad idea. They are all long on promises and short on delivery.

No splitting until after release. A large portion will continue to support AoC, some will go to work on Expansion and some to continue to help with the 360 version including expac.
I agree about Brad McAlmightyHeavenlyFather, Shannia, and your point was just what I tried to say in my original post.
It didn't seem that personal to me at first, until it became so. Anyhow, he's confident in his opinion and gets respect for it but I'm also equally confident in mine and nothing excuses a direct personal attack. You just need to respond in kind and grin back.

Too demanding? Have you played beta? Who are you to make an accusion such as this. It has been confirmed by developers that if you can play oblivion on medium, you can play Conan on low (one setting lower). Now xbox 360 can handle Oblivion on High/very high. So uhh?
Another thing, I dont know where people are getting the idea of +40 people will make there be a lag bomb. On the blog it stated that in towns, armors will have low resolutions and will be disctriced, such as guildwars.
And again with the "xbox cant play", leave it to the developers to do that.
1 question........ If someone will whant to play it on "xblender" they will have to pay "xblender live"+ sub for AoC.... That sounds..... bad......
Anyway i will get it on Pc , deffenetly.Thought i will really whant nice graphics, so if they will downscale it to xblender lvl, it will blow big time.
And anather thought now, there is no keyboard on joysticks, so how will you communicate with someone? voice chat? How it will work? If i just meet someone outside town, or i just go to market and there will be about 20 poeple? or if i whant to sell something in chat? Imagine gold sellers shouting on it then
Anyway, bad idea...
You can play the same account on both xbox and PC. You dont need to pay for xbox live either, you can use silver.
Are you special?
