Not according to all those fanbois who were going on and on about this game way back when. Check out some of the old threads.
Notice they don't have say much to say anymore. Probably waiting for the next developer to sell them a pile of junk so they can claim it's the next game to change the genre.

No need, I was there. To painful to go back and read all the old posts.

I'm still here and I'm proud of Dark and Light. It made the biggest mmorpg ever and it is not dead yet. Snailgames is working on it and it will be a success in China and then more Europeans will start playing it. This will be in 2010 or so.
But, I'm also anticipating Fallen Earth, Darkfall and maybe Ruin online and Earthrise. We shall see. Those are going to be some superb games. Especially Fallen Earth and Darkfall. Trying to play those games at launch will be an unforgettable experience just like it was to stress test and try launch DNL!
I remember when I met Vuuar in the game. That was fun. Hehe... I tried to kill him, he was attackable. And he just stood there taking the hits for hours untill i annoyed him so much that he teleported me away from the island Hhehehe.. :P
The biggest problem I see with games like DnL and Darkfall, (and to a lesser degree Vanguard), is that their reach far exceeds their grasp.
They are long on concept, (even visionary), but they lack the resources and experience to deliver.
When they try to rush it, (like DnL or Vanguard), they produce a product missing 40% of what they promised, and full of bugs; (which they lack the resources to fix)
So they try to bluff their way through it, and hope they can fix the problems, (which they usually can't).
This just infuriates a certain segment of the gaming community, and they are forever tarred.
If, on the other hand, they wait to try to put out a polished and finished product, (such as Darkfall (seemingly) is doing), then they wait soooooo long that their graphics, UI, annimations, etc. are hopelessly out of date.
Finally, there is the sad reality that gamers are a fickle lot, and though they may like a game that has an "easy" button (like WoW or EQ2), they quickly blow through the content and are ready to move on to the next game.
What is needed is the vision of a DnL coupled with the resources of a WoW. I do not know when we will arrive there (if ever).
As a matter of personal preference, I am in love with the concept of a vast world. If it were *my* choice, that vast world (perhaps the size of Ganareth (including the closed kingdoms)) would be *mostly* wilderness and unexplored.
I doubt I will see that anytime soon.
In the meantime, I still encourage any that have the patience to wade through all the problems of DnL, to try it; if for no other reason than to get a 'feel' for what a truly large world is like, and to lobby the Game producers out there for a Ganareth-sized world (that works)
Vast open fields and exploratory areas need to be coupled with easy transport(mounts/vehicles), SWG has a very large game world(including planets) and is very immersive in that respect. I wish LoTRO was like that with player towns/villages, shops, houses, rather than instanced e-peen showcases. I've never played DnL and don't know a lot about it, but assuming they are a small-to-mid sized developer, they most likely got in over their head.

Yes, they did get over their heads. For that, they can be forgiven. For being, lying, deceitful, scaming, lower-then-dirt crooks; never.
